We, a family of 5, stayed for one night and booked 2 adjoining rooms. The place is well located next to the showground, about 5 minutes from the A1 motorway and about 15 mins from the city centre. There is a Beefeater type pub also next door. We arrived late (after 10pm) and check in was fine.
Room was ok, clean and tidy although very warm and with no aircon, so a fan is a must. This was available from reception. Beds were extremely soft and for me as a regular of the iHG chain, I thought this was unusual. Consequently, I didn't get much sleep at all.
Breakfast was typical of a HI Express and like earlier comments the actual food area is very small and cramped although the seating area is well spaced out.
Free wifi with a good signal and lots of free parking too.
However, no recognition of iHG members, which for me is getting rather annoying and I will be raising this with customer services!
However, for location and price the hotel is good value.

Overall a good nights stay. However as a telly buff I was rather annoyed over very very poor choice of TV stations.
One of the most comfortable beds I've had in a hotel

Our two night stay at this hotel was ruined by the temperature in the bedroom. With no Air-Con it was unbearable to sleep!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by YorkieZeb Great new Breakfast choice
Having stayed at this hotel on many previous
Occasions it was a pleasant surprise to have
a Better quality of brown bread, not the usual limp,
Also the Lime Marmalade and laughing Cow soft cheese
were an excellent accompaniment.
The hotel staff tried their best to keep the rooms cool by giving us a fan for the room but that was noisy and so made it hard to sleep.
This hotel would definitely benefit from air conditioning.
Also a microwave available for patron use would improve our stay- we stay away working and it is a pleasant change to prepare / heat our own food. Microwaves are available in many of the Holiday Inn Expresses that we stay in whilst working away from home.

shame that there was a smell of drains every time you turned the taps on and that there was no airconditioning or decent ventilation as the weather was very warm so the room was very stuffy (other guests complained of this too). Cleanliness very good.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Rob Norf Perfect for overnight stay needs
Only needed to stay for one night but had everything we needed - clean room, comfortable bed, free wifi in room and common areas.
Variety of options for breakfast and could chose quantity.
Would definitely stay again if in the area.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by 2shipyardtales Good enough, but for breakfast.....
Right outside the East of England Showground and close to the A1 this place is a handy edge of city stop-off. On arrival everything is just as expected from the brand. The now familiar warm welcome that has almost universally replaced Holiday Inn's oft poor reception service. A quick check in and a room that has the brand's top quality bed, fluffy towels and hot water galore. This hotel lacks air conditioning despite what looks like a fairly recent refit and that is a problem on warm nights with a fairly busy road nearby.
Unusually breakfast was not so good here. Old stale and cold croissants and pain au chocolate were a let-down - you can usually rely on good fresh bakery goods. The now usual buffet of sausages and scrambled egg were on offer along with fruit, cereals and yoghourt. No complaints there!
I'll hope the breakfast buns were a glitch that management will look into and then it will up there with the brand.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Tub thumper Apart from breakfast
I like Holiday Inn Express hotels in general. If you book right its good value for money. On this occasion breakfast let them down. The scrambled egg was a mass block which gave the impression of being there for hours even though we were down early. There was no bacon and all the food was tasteless even the pastries.
The staff were all good, friendly and helpful so overall I rate it a good stay which with a little effort and cost on the breakfast front would have been near perfect. The rooms are always fine and I have no problem with their comfort. Much better than other hotels of a comparable price

I would ensure that when booking you strongly ensure you have a double room if you don't want a twin room with an uncomfortable single bed.
A fan was included, this property does not have a/c and this just pushed the hot air around.
I know they can't be responsbible for the weather but it is worth noting.
The 'free' breakfast is ok, however tables are not cleared quickly enough.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Malc1029 quiet location, comfortable , good breakfast
Had never stayed with chain before, happy with the quiet location by the showground . Room comfortable , liked the choice of pillow type had no had choice when stayed elsewhere.
Bathroom fine , enough room and clean.
TV had variety of freeview channels and adequate size for the room.
Tea/ coffee supplies replaced daily when used.
Breakfast had a good range of items also suitable items for vegetarians.limited hot food selection i.e. scrambled eggs, sausage , baked beans but there were cereals toast etc plus selection of yoghurts and fruits.More than enough to set you up for the day. Hot drinks and fruit juices out of machines but juice was ok and hot chocolate/coffee were better than some places make by hand.
Overall an excellent location with friendly , helpful staff.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Westender Nice room shame about the noisey guests
Great room, have stopped here before, excellent staff.
"Works Do" group disrupted sleep several times during night as they returned to their rooms after night out.
If possible groups should be put together near entrance and keep other guests seperate. Other guests at breakfast were also unhappy.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Ping20 good location
Had great difficulty booking on line , having to make two separate bookings for each of the 2 nights we stayed. However on arrival did not have to move rooms as had been suggested.
This hotel was a nice quiet location. Room layout very adequate and good wifi access. There was a very good pub (The Cuckoo) nearby. Plenty of parking and staff were helpful. The only disappointment was that the shower flow was poor- about 2 litres a minute.

We've stayed here three time and have enjoyed each visit. It's great value for money, just off the A1 with a number of restaurants within walking distance. We particularly like The Cuckoo because it's a longer walk that The Harvester and has "Pie" evenings. Also there a number of areas suitable for exercising our little dog.
Friendly, pleasant and helpful staff.

We have stayed at this hotel 3 times now. Staff are very helpful,,and friendly. Room very clean. The only thing I did not like was the bed which was a lot smaller compared to other disabled rooms we have stayed in. But other than that. a great base to stay. and nice town to shop in.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Steve35 Disappointing
On checking in I was allocated a single bed I questioned this with the receptionist ( guy with glasses ) as i always have a double and his response was very disappointing. Basically he couldn't care less nor did he recognise me as a platinum member other than to give me an envelope with my points details on and a letter from the management team telling me how valuable my business was lol! I asked him if he could reallocate me but his response was 'no I haven't got anything I asked him if my membership meant anything and his response was there are loads of other platinum members staying!! Well here's one that won't be, I understand if they have no doubles but this guy needs training on how to speak to customers without winding people up. They also don't offer points or the drink associated with membership but then again that just might be just this member of staff. The lady on check out however was very pleasant, as was the guy filling the breakfast.

As usual standard of Holiday Inn Express except for I stayed on a hot day and room was like a sauna! The little fan wasnt sufficient to keep me cool and very noisy at night as it creaked. So disappointed as most hotels these days have A/C where this didnt.

Entered room to fine sofabed fully made up - Not required.
Folded back bed, but left with a pile of unwanted bedding, saw room service staff and none of them spoke English (This is Peterborough). Saw duty reception who advised me (in English) to place this bedding outside my room.
