We went to Pittsburg to see a Pirates game. It was easy to get to the ballpark from there but if you are going to a night game make sure that you call the hotel and reserve the shuttle before 10:45pm or you may get stranded at the train station.

The hotel staff and service was top notch, especially on the very busy holiday weekend. We only stayed one night but everything was great with one miner issue, which i will get to later. They have a nice shuttle service that covers about 3 miles around the hotel. This was really nice and the few times we utilized the services the drivers were friendly and fairly knowledgeable. Breakfast was outstanding, from fruit to automated pancake maker. The only issue was with the blind of our room window. we wanted to sleep in a bit later then the sun, and the shades would not come down. it was only one night so didnt worry about it.
Enjoy your stay at this location, they took good care of us.

My stay was nearly a week long and this became a home away from home for me. Pros: The room size was very large and comfortable for me and my adult daughter. Bathrooms were clean. Mini fridge, microwave and sink allowed us to buy bottles of water from the CVS and store. There were plenty of tv channels to choose from. The shuttle would take you anywhere within a 3 miile radius and pick you back up. I love Southside. I had heard so many scary things about it but to me it has so much character and the people are the type who don't judge and don't care to be judged. Lots of very nice restaurants in the area. Cons: customer service from service staff was sometimes hit or miss. Weekend staff in breakfast room were upbeat and very friendly; during the week they could have cared less. Internet was spotty unless you used the computers in the business center. My last morning I realized early in the morning that we were about to run out of toilet paper so I ran downstairs (around 5 am) to front desk to ask for another role and the person at the front desk looked at me as though I was trying to steal it, then walked away without a word and emerged from another room with the roll. Later, when I came down to check out a different person was at the front desk and she was just as friendly as one could be. Despite these shortcomings I will be staying at the South Side HIE when I return to Pittsburgh which will be soon.

Joseph, at the front desk, was very helpful in recommending what activities might be to our liking from the "ducky boat" tours to the Waterfront shops and the incline/funiculars.
Mr. Chip, our shuttle driver/tour guide took to points of interest within the allotted 3 mile radius. He is an extremely pleasant and professional HIE representative

... but I felt the outstanding staff at this property deserved it.
We visited Pittsburgh for the first time over the 4th of July. Our stay had a couple of hiccups: we had to change rooms because of a frozen a/c unit and at one point our room cards stopped working. However, those hiccups were dealt with quickly. The staff we encountered, from the front desk to maintenance to food service to housekeeping to shuttle driver, were exceptionally kind and helpful. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat.
