Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Adam B Arrogant staff, good location for Southside
The hotel is an average HI Express. Check in took too long and we were not offered a Platinum amenity. Later on in the evening I went down to ask for 2 bottles of water and was greeted by the arrogance of the guy working the front desk. I booked 2 rooms, my wife and I both have Platinum with IHG. This guy at the front desk argued with me over bottled water, refused to answer my question, and basically told me to go away. Sorry but I'll take my business elsewhere if that is how you treat guests, especially with IHG Plat.

Very pleased to receive a special rate for my daughter's grad weekend. Also, appreciated the shuttle service which we used 3x's.
Walls in rooms not very sound proof...but the comfortable bed and pillows made up for it.....

Great location and a very nice hotel. If you are a light sleeper please be aware you may hear trains going by at night.
Also, the fitness room is above average for a hotel.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by pb92 convenient, clean, close to parties
Definitely the place to stay if you want to be walking distance to Duquesne University and the restauraunts and bars of South Side, but you risk being kept up by revelry related to the those same bars. Our first night was quite and pleasant. Second night very loud yelling and door slamming that persisted despite requests to keep quiet. Common areas and rooms are very clean. Staff was very pleasant, but front desk staff seemed disorganized and overworked -- told me they just updated their computer system. Parking seems secure, but there is a charge.

Our trip to Pittsburgh was to visit two local colleges and our stay was very enjoyable. The staff was very friendly and accomidating both days we were there. What also made things great was they offer shuttle service to anywhere within a 3 mile radius. So we did not have to deal with not knowing where to go to get to our appointments at the colleges, we just had to sit back and enjoy the ride and see the sites while we were taken where we needed to go! We also had a problem with our refridgerator not working properly. After trying once to fix the problem, they replaced. All this was within minutes of each call. They really make the effort to insure you are enjoying your stay!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Speech Guy Great for Marathoners
I had possibly the best hotel experience of my life. Not only was the facility immaculate, the staff was incredibly helpful and considerate. We were staying for the Pittsburgh Marathon. In anticipation of all the guests, they ran their shuttle service beginning at 4am and opened the continental breakfast at 4am as well! They permitted generous late check-out and even had the breakfast continuing into the early afternoon for all the runners post race. Joseph greeted us upon arrival and was a complete gentleman. My stay made a fantastic weekend even more enjoyable.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Luv ya' Black & Gold Great service and location.
I travel to Pittsburgh 2-3 times a year for sporting events and a museum visit with my wife and son. Our stay at the Holiday Inn Express on the Southside was without a doubt our most pleasurable Pittsburgh hotel experience in the last five years, and considering we have stayed in some high end downtown hotels that is saying something.
Parking is easy and reasonable, every member of the staff was courteous and helpful, the room was clean and comfortable, the shuttle offers quick and easy access to Station Square to ride the Gateway Clipper over to the stadiums, and the location is convenient to museums in Oakland, shopping in Shadyside, and of course the nightlife of the Southside. This hotel blows the Marriott City Center away!
We will be back in the fall. Luv ya Black and Gold!!!!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Jinxi Terrific staff, room and services
We stayed here for 4 nights during our spring break and were very pleased. Restaurants and shops were within walking distance from the hotel, and anything further we could easily get to via the convenient complimentary shuttle. The room was very clean and comfortable. We especially appreciated the friendly, knowledgeable staff. Everyone we interacted with, whether it was someone from maintenance as we passed each other on the elevator, to the hotel manager, to the shuttle driver, greeted us and asked if we needed anything. We would definitely stay here again!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Bloudog Great place to stay in Pittsburgh
Everything about this stay was excellent.
The desk staff was warm and made check in quick and easy, The room was clean and spacious. Breakfast offered enough choice to satisfy anyone. The shuttle service to downtown was an unexpected plus. Drop off and pick up eliminated the need to look for parking space and the expense of paid parking. I would recommend this Inn to anyone planning a trip to Pittsburgh.

I travel to Pittsburg a couple of time a month for business and this is by far the best Holiday Inn property I've stayed. I always try to make this my home base when I'm in town. There are times when I stay elsewhere for other reasons, but overall a great hotel.

Stayed on a Saturday night and the property hosted parties from a wedding and a bachelor's party. Drunken guests were loudly wandering the halls all night. The front desk staff were unsympathetic and did do anything to try to minimize the disturbance.
When I travel to sports events with my 13 and 16 year olds, the front desk asks both children and parents to sign a sheet pledging to be courteous and not disrupt other guests.
But this was worse than a dozen teenage boys playing soccer in the halls.
If loud groups cannot be sequestered in their own section of the property, they should not be permitted to ruin the sleep and experience of other paying guests.

Thank you so much for another pleasant stay in Southside. I've been a regular business traveler to Southside for a handful of years. This hotel, and it's staff, continue to improve and impress. All of the staff are Kind, Courteous and Considerate. Special mention for Alyson and Jay. Both make me feel welcome and appreciated. Hey Jay, thanks for all the help with the IHG reward points. I've now collected enough to get some free stuff!!!!
I look forward to staying with yuns' again soon!

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Rona176 Rude Service and Unknown Fees
Wanted to stay using Priority Club points for a Family Weekend Getaway to an area we have never stayed and end up paying $28 for parking for two day stay which was NOT mentioned at check in and charged a $35 holding fee that they say would be returned (To-Be-Determined). Given a Parking pass for vehicle and wanted vehicle information like any Hotel asks but when checking out the girl would not let me leave without charging my credit card $28 for two day stay with Priority Points supposed to pay for the stay and not knowing the cost. I also mentioned what about the $35 fee they wanted at check in that NO OTHER Hotel had ever charged me and the Black lady behind the desk just kept on talking about it loudly and trying to embarrass me while other people were behind me and the lobby was getting backed up with multiple people hearing the conversation. She kept talking loudly that all Hotels do this and she is completely wrong. I have never been charged a Deposit Fee at ANY Other IHG Hotel or other Hotel for that fact. If they wanted to explain the Fees then they should have talked quieter about private things without me having to leave and walk away in front of a dozen people. Very DIS-PLEASED with their Code of Conduct with customers and unknown fees. What good is it to use Priority Club Points to stay somewhere without cost and in turn end up paying for the room anyway. The whole mess-up started when calling the Reservation Help Line and given multiple Confirmation numbers which confused things at check-in (nearly 30 minutes, just to check in with nobody else in the lobby). Consumer Beware but not all emplyees were bad, the guys behind the desk were helpfull in finding places to eat in the area.

Staff was nice and hotel looks brand new with nice interior. Very clean and comfortable. Nice pool but cool and had to call housekeeping to get in. Tread mills didn't work in the fitness center. You can take a long walk across the bridge to downtown and there is a shuttle that will take you anywhere and pick up up. We had a great time and would go back.

I was in town for business , the young lady checking me in was extremely rude and seemed put out by having to get my room. There was another male employee behind the service desk also and he was way to busy talking to another employee. They were not busy at all and when I asked the girl where would be a good place to go eat and to get a drink she pointed out the door and said "2 blocks" (quite the conversationalist) I then politely asked if it was walking distance. She looked at me like it was the dumbest question she has ever heard and just shook her head. It was -5 degrees and I was new to the area, so I wasn't in the mood for a Sunday stroll in the blizzard.
I wasn't impressed with the parking fee but that happens in some cities, also its a party hotel and I didn't realize that, but not a big issue to me. But you guys really need to fix your front desk problem, out of all of the holiday inns I've stayed at this was the worst check in staff that I have encountered! I will stay somewhere else next time

The staff at this location was absolutely wonderful! Pittsburgh is my home. Unfortunately my children (grown adults) and myself was there for my brothers funeral. We were treated like family. The comfort was top notch! No matter where we were in the lobby, breakfast area, hallway to room everyone on staff was kind and friendly. I travel a lot for my company. Wish there were more hotels like this. Of course Pittsburgh people are wonderful "Some place special". Special mention to Ms. Dee in the breakfast area. Wanted to take her home. She was like a mom serving breakfast! Total keeper.

Unable to get a good night's sleep due to a party on the same floor that went way into the next morning. The police finally had to put a stop to it.
Also extremely disappointed that they charged $14 extra to be able to park in their lot for one night

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Bob62000 Poor Check In!
Arrived around 3:30 PM, was told that check in was not until 4:00 PM. Is that the average check in time? Seems late to me. Came back at 4:00 and still had to wait another 15 minutes. Delay was blamed on the rooms not being cleaned. I suggest the management start the cleaning process earlier.

The beds were slightly uncomfortable, though not exactly sure why. Very disappointed that the iron ruined a pair of pants. There was black gunk on the iron that ruined khaki pants. Very disappointing. Clean irons is something that should be taken for granted.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by RegionalITManager72 Hotel needs to take better notice of maintenance issues.
I am a platinum member and stay almost exclusively at Holiday Inns for business throughout the country.
This hotel was located in a great area of Pittsburgh and was by all recollection a beutiful hotel, however I found the stay less than restful.
After a 9 hour drive in heavy snow, and late arrival, I was looking forward to going to sleep. The first thing I noticed about the room was that there was no "black out" shade or curtain on the window. Just the window dressing and sheers. This made privacy impossible in the room and it was like sleeping with the lights on due to the bright parking lot lights outside my window. The next thing was the heater, it rattled like a band saw and was so loud that I had to turn it off and just double up on covers #from my unused bed#. Needless to say, I didn't get much sleep but it was even less because of a loud wihing sound that came from the hallway #perhaps an alarm of some sort# that came on early. This may have been out of their control, to be fair, however it was on for at least a couple of hours.
I checked out early and stayed at another hotel. This hotel seems to lack in the maintenance dept.
