Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by jock1963 evening meals
we enjoyed our stay very much in our executive room the only disapointment was the choices on the evening menu.we both ordered lamb shank which was very nice but there was hardly any meat on it & i am sure that the mash potato was powdered mash as it did not taste or look like mashed potato.when we stay again i think weather permitting we will eat away from the hotel.
but it will not stop us staying again

We were sat outside and went to turn on the heaters as it was a bit cooler in the evening and they did not work, when a member of staff came out we mention that we could get them to work and he said "oh well there not working" and walked away. It would ha e been nice to sit and relax outside with a drink but this was not to be.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by DIL345 OK but no bacon
We stayed for 3 nights and found this place comfy enough to relax and use as a base for exploring the Poole area. The breakfast buffet is limited with just sausages and scrambled egg as the hot choices. Plenty of pastries, and bread for toast though. On the official website it had bacon as a choice but the hotel said they "hadn't served that for a couple of years". There is a very good smoking area outside the lounge. We had one evening meal, which was tasty enough but nothing special, and a litlle pricey at £30 for 2 mains and desserts. Also it felt like sitting in a hospital restaurant due to the layout. Poole harbour is a nice 15 mins stroll from the hotel and the bus staion and shops are only 5 mins max walk (go through the underpass near the park and you'll have no roads to cross).

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Minime Served its purpose
The carpet had stains, the windows looked grubby and the bedding didn't look as crisp as it should. Went to the bar for a cold cider. I had to ask FOUR times before he understood me (I have no accent#. He couldn't find clean glasses so he DIPPED them in sink of water #no washing up liquid in sight) and wiped with his fingers. I queried whether this was good enough to which he replied "it's boiling water in the sink". I don't think so or he wouldn't have been able to put his hands in it. He seemed to think this was acceptable and continued to fill the glasses with ice. Needless to say, we drank from the bottle!

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Clare7447 Disappointed and unacceptable
I booked a family room for 3 nights for half term. Therefore I didn't want to hear the excuses that "we are very busy, it is half term" Issues included other guests returning noisily at 2.30am, 2 hour delay between requesting additional bedding and receiving it, 1hour wait for food from the restaurant, incorrect information on the time of breakfast.... The list continues.
On check out, I was wished a safe journey and hope I return soon. I will not be returning to this hotel and I am extremely put off Holiday Inn's.

Nice enough hotel in a good location near to the railway station and well within walking distance. The staff were a little bland and some staff found it an issue that I had forgotten my Priority Club card but had my number. Getting an ice bucket seemed to be a problem also

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by cassidy10 double bed comfy, put me -up bed lumpy
overall the hotel was clean,
After unpacking and starting to relax we put the on the tv the picture at fist was distorted ,then was clear - something to do with the signal ?.
Although our bed was very comfy, the sofa bed for our son was very uncomfortable, the bottom half of the bed was higher than the top. there was no adjustment on the bed so we had to put up with it, however we did find a old pair of training shoes underneath
Staff were friendly and helpful

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Lee21 Children's bed to small for two children
Hotel and stay was ok with a nice breakfast but beware when booking a room for a family of 4 as the sofa bed (supposedly a double) provided for the kids was not big enough for our 2 kids. Went to reception and spoke to the on duty staff but other visitors commented on how uninterested the staff were in helping. Apparently they don't even have a single spare mattress in the hotel for one of my kids to sleep on although there was space for it in the room! Subsequently we played musical beds as the sofa bed was not only too small but also really uncomfortable.

We booked this hotel because we were in Poole for a family reunion as we have relatives living nearby. We have stayed in a few other hotels in the area but this is one of the best. Very convenient for Poole harbour quay and easy to access by road. If you are coming from the Midlands or London, access via Bournemouth, it is much easier. Accommodation and service are in line with Holiday Inn standards which are very good anyway. Good parking available.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Acland Worst HI-E I have been in
Got to the hotel quite late and went for a quick drink. Bar area was empty no no atmosphere. Beer selection was very limited and ended up with a pint of Caffery's- not a beer I like but it was all they had. It tasted awfull. My wife said the wine she had was not very good either.
Went to the room - have to say it was very clean and enough space. Bed was a little firm for me but that's my preference. Would have liked a larger one as well - it was a small double - cramped for two. The quilt looked as though it was from a single bed - it didn't hang over the edge of the bed at all so we ended up fighting with it all night.
Shower gave out water a little more than a dribble and the temperature control went from freezing to too hot with very little adjustment.
Breakfast - variety was normal for a HI Express - not exciting and poor quality / cheap food.
Checking-out, I was asked if my stay was okay but this done while the Receptionist was looking down and doing something behind the counter. I felt it was said out of habit and if I had replyed it would not have been heard, so I didn't bother to say anything.
VFM - no. Would I stay there again - NO!!!!!!

I wanted to take my children to monkey world for the day, so decided the stop here the night previous, to get to monkey world early on the Sunday.
I booked online for 1 adult and two kids, but there was only 1 bed in the room on arrival. The room itself was adequate.
The walls were paper thin, and everey noise from the room next door, corridor and street were very clear.
The breakfast selection was poor and I would say was very poor value for money.

We were very pleased overall with our stay. Only 2 comments for improvement! They need more than 1 staff on the desk and covering the bar during lunch time and in the evening as this leads to slow service of drinks and loss off sales for them! The members website needs to give correct details of bookings.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Dassie What a pleasure !
As mid-range British hotels go, this hotel exceeded our expectations, the only blip being at breakfast times when there was only one waiter on duty and the self service often ran out of glasses/cups etc but upon bringing it to their attention, replacements were brought in without any delay. Excellent position for Trains/Buses and National Express coach stations and just a short walk to Poole Quay. Free car parking and in a fairly quiet area. Would highly recommend it.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 Comfortable but poor service
Spent one night there. Checked in at 8pm. Only one member of staff has to deal with the reception and bar. He dispatched me in no time. Room was clean, beds comfortable. One thing though. The TV switched off after 2 hours. The only way to switch it back on is to slide the card outside the door. Removing the card from its slot did not work.
Breakfast was good and has a great selection.
Checking out was done by someone very grumpy who handed me the invoice without a look and a word. Poor poor poor skills.
Ok for a one or two night stay.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Markemark Dirty glasses & unedible food
Having travelled 6 hours, I arrived tired and hungry so rather than walking into town to find a restraint I chose to stay and eat at the hotel. Big mistake. The chicken wings looked more like pigeon wings and had been cooked to the point the bone would have been easier to chew.
Following dinner, I ordered a glass of wine to take back to my room to relax. Once back in my room I was about to take a sip only to notice lipstick all the way round the rim. When I returned it to the bar the bar-man went through a further 3 glasses before finding one he felt he could hand polish to an acceptable standard.
While the manager kindly credited the wings and wine, this is well below the standards I'm used to and keep me returning to ICH Group hotels. Very disappointing.

Torn paper but most disappointing an earwig crawling across the bed! When presented with the insect the receptionist was very good, handled it correctly and changed our room. Second room had old toenail outside the bathroom door and hair in the shower. Oh and the beds are too small for couples to sleep comfortably!

Stayed here on a stop through at the last minute, on arrival the kids had been in the car for hours and the staff were very friendly and check in was smooth. The room was very clean and comfortable, breakfast was good with a lot of options, bit of bacon wouldn't have gone a miss though! Overall excellent stay!

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Jules71 BACK TO THE EIGHTIES!
We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Poole for one Saturday night in April 2013.
We were greeted by a lovely receptionist and check in was trouble free. She explained everything and told us where our room was.
I have stayed in the Holiday Inn Express in Stoke so I thought I was prepared for a nice, slightly basic but very clean and comfortable stay. When entering the room however, we felt like we had been transported back to 1985. The decor was straight from the eighties, yellow and blue, horrific curtains. The wall next to the window was dirty, lots of grubby fingermarks and the whole room was just very tired and dated.
The radiator did not work and with one very flimsy duvet I was very disappointed. I did not sleep well at all although my partner slept ok.
The breakfast was also a bit of a let down. If you are a veggie and like a cooked breakfast, avoid this hotel. My partner settled for scrambled egg on toast and I had a pot of yogurt and some muesli.
I would not stay here again. Unfortunately the very nice staff are let down by a shabby hotel.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Robert3933 AS GOOD AS EVER.
Have stayed at this hotel many times and have never had a problem.
Check in as a Priority Club member took just a few moments.
The room and floor I was on had recently been refurbished and looked excellent.
Parking was free and onsite.
No problems at all encountered.
Wish the reward nights weren't so many points at this hotel.
(Paid rather than use up points).

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Mondo52 Room Defect
On arrival at the hotel at about 1430hrs and we were allocated an upgraded room on the ground floor, 006 and were greeted by both beds being pulled away from the wall and in the middle of the room, easy enough to resolve we just pushed them back. Room was good but very cold. After an hour it became apparent that the heating system was not working. I contacted reception and was rung back stating that the service manager had done something outside of our room and to give it ten minutes. No change after the time suggested so again we contacted reception and within five minutes the service manager, Steve was at our door carrying a small fan heater to warm up the room. I informed him that I was not happy with his idea and that we wanted a fully operational room, the reply was 'Not sure if I have one as we are busy, i will have to check, you may have to wait' We then received a call from reception stating that they had a room on the first floor that was available, but that we would have to wait as it was being cleaned. We received a call after about ten minutes and went to our new room 106 which was perfect with two working radiators and as this was one of the coldest weekends on record we certainly needed the heat.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by TheCooks The heating was noisy
We had a lovely stay in Poole, the hotel was clean and very good, the staff were excellent and friendly, a bit more choice on the menu for the evening meal would have been nice, but it was adequate. The only one big criticism is that the heating in our room 002, was very noisy and we had to turn it off at night to be able to get any sleep, we reported this on 2 occasions, but nothing was done, I do realise that this was a bank holiday weekend, but I would have thought maintenance staff would have been available to look at the heater.

We stayed at at the hotel for one night with a very late arrival. Got a bit lost and the staff on duty gave extra directions to help us. The room was wonderful and clean and the sofa bed ready for our son. All the staff we met could not do enough for us and as we live in the Channel Islands and travel regularly by ferry, we will certainly have this as our first choice hotel.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Lewisc Beds terrible
Overall the hotel was in a good location for my business activities the following day. Unfortunately the beds were an absolute disgrace, the worst i have ever stayed in. They were the equivalent of sleeping on a camp bed, which gave me my worst nights sleep ever. On mentioning this on check out, the receptionist said that all rooms were due renovation & to ask for a new room if i stayed again!!
