If you want excellent facilities in a reasonably priced hotel in the Poole area then consider Holiday Inn Express. Once you have sorted out the local route in and out of the hotel ( a practice run is recommended if you are planning an onward journey by ferry or attending an important business meeting!), the hotel provides friendly service in clean and comfortable rooms and a hearty breakfast - albeit with a restricted choice but the food on offer is nicely prepared and presented.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by AnnRWB Great hotel, brilliant location
I had to spend 2 nights at the hotel recently as my husband was taken into Poole hospital while we were on holiday. The staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel was so clean and welcoming. A great location as well for the centre of Poole. My only comment is that do we really have to pay an additionl £5 to park your car? Most places would include that in the overnight cost.

We were seeing Stewart Lee at the Lighthouse and we stayed in the Holiday Inn Express because we've stayed at them before and had great experiences.
We loved the show and we also loved the hotel. I think the drinks are a bit expensive but that's not unusual in hotels I suppose. The staff were so helpful and friendly.
We had a nice break and felt relaxed. Plus,it was very reasonably priced (apart from the drinks!).

Room was clean and comfortable, however we had no WiFi access all weekend which was hopefully a one off and not a regular occurrence.
Breakfast was what you would expect in an Express Hotel.

This was an overall poor experience. We were greeted with the news that the WiFi system for the entire hotel was not working (this at 4:00 p.m. on a Saturday afternoon - not a Bank Holiday). The Manager and Receptionist informed us that the firm who services the WiFi installation was "closed" - there was no service all weekend. This is intolerable in today's 24/7 world. I'm sure that HI has a service-contract with the maintenance company - they should have been able to fix it even using remote-access!
The food at breakfast was cold (especially scrambled eggs which tasted like rubber).
Bad staining on the room-and hallway carpet (looked like coffee).
This is not what I expect from HI standards and no attempt was made to compensate.
The hotel may have been full this weekend, but that's no excuse - it soon will be empty at this rate!

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Johnindorset What have they done to the Holiday Inn at Poole?
As frequent travellers to Jersey in the Channel Islands,we have often used the Holiday Inn as a nightly stop over for the early morning ferry service. More so now as the Condor Ferry organisation has left Weymouth and now operates only from Poole.Having booked accommodation some months previously, we arrived on Thursday (9the April) afternoon to cathch the Condor Liberation the next morning. (Now there is another story). As a member of the IHG Club, the usual formalities had already been completed and all we needed to do was to sign the registration documentation.
The first suprise was that I was presented with another bill for an extra £5 for "car parking" overnight. In all my experience of Holiday Inn visits, I have never been charged to park the car! The £5 cost is neither here nor there as it is the principle which is important, particularly as the reason for this new charge is that "the landowner has increased the rent".
The next suprise was on entering our room. It appears that someone has put the beds through a washing machine on the wrong setting and the beds have shrunk! The same setting must have been used when washing the duvet as they too had shrunk and would be too small for anyone over 5feet 2 inches tall. (I am 6feet 5 inches).
The also seemed to be a lingering faint aroma of cigarette smoke which seemed strange. There is no criticism of the Hoiliday Inn staff who were attentive and pleasant as usual. The problem is with the hotel. I have no idea what they have done to it, but whatever it is, someone should have a rethink,
