Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Close to turnpike for easy off and on The carpet in our room was very stained, but otherwise the room was clean and comfortable. The pancake maker wasn't working, which was a disappointment. The breakfast manager stated that all Holiday Inns were having difficulty with this equipment. November 9, 2012
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Okay but not great Can't beat the breakfast bar, or the 24 hr coffee and tea selection. However, the bathroom and shower were tiled, and I desperately wanted to spray Tilex and scrub them down. The grout was mildewed. Also we like that the hotel supports saving energy and advises to re-use your towels, etc ., however we got in really late and just crashed, thinking we would get clean linens in the morning, even putting the "Please change our linens" sign on the door, and nothing got changed. And we were there for 2 days. The pool was pretty small, I really think the hotel was a really old one that was remodeled into a Holiday Inn Express. Also there were signs saying it was smoke free hotel but you could smell the old cigarette stinch in the hallways. In addition to this, they advertise free popcorn and cookies after 3pm, and my husband overheard a clerk say "I just ain't in the mood to do popcorn tonight, I just ain't doing it". Well there went what my kids were looking forward too. As far as the location, we were so lucky to hear a loud train whistling near us every night as we tried to sleep. November 5, 2012
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worst Holiday Inn Express This was the worst Holiday Inn Express I have ever stayed in. My room smelled like cigarette smoke and Lysol. Had to switch rooms after about two hours due to the odor that had given me a headache. The room I was switched into was not much better. It still smelled like cigarette smoke but did not have the Lysol smell attempting to cover it up. The ceiling in the bathroom had peeling paint. There were three hairs in the bathtub. I had to cancel my next two days and made reservations elsewhere. The rates were just as high as the nicer Holiday Inn Expresses I stay in. Will never return there. I believe they should give me 15,000 points to make up for this stay. October 28, 2012
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Website is Misleading and Untrue. As a Priority Club member, I make my reservations on-line and trust in the information regarding the hotel property. Both my husband and I smoke and the website stated that a smoking king room was available. Therefore, I booked the room. Upon arrival, I found that it was a totally non-smoking property and had been since July 4, 2012. I found that there was no covered or sheltered area for smokers. I recognize your right to change your property amenities BUT would not have selected your property had I known the truth. So I am not at all pleased at the dishonesty. October 25, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Portage, IN Very nice place to stay. Convenient location. A bit noisy in the hallway during the night, but the subsided in short order. October 12, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good stay just off the Turnpike or seeing Indiana Dunes Stayed at this location while on business to Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. Though the location was just off the turnpike, you cannot hear the noise and the room was very quiet. Staff is very friendly and courteous. Morning breakfast was good with alot of choices. Not many place to eat near the hotel, but plenty of place to eat within a 15 minute drive. Indiana Dunes in a short 15 minute drive away and most of all, this is a great location for those traveling through the Chicago area but would rather stay the night outside Chicago before hitting morning rush hour. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Portage HI The over all experience at this HI location was fair to average. The personnel were friendly but nothing over the top. We were greeted and serviced promptly and have no complaints. The location is convenient but not what I would call the best. The view was not pleasing at all. House out the back and hwy out the front. Room could be updated and better maintained. I have stayed in much nicer rooms for the same cost. October 5, 2012
