Staff is attentive to your needs, shuttle will take you to local restaurants or the train station as well as the airport. Would like better breakfast cereal choices. Hard boiled eggs are a nice option.

We recently stayed at this hotel for several days due to a family funeral that was taking place in Portland. The staff could not be more kind and accommodating. Susan in the breakfast room went above and beyond assisting my mother and was so encouraging to all of us. She was busy with her job duties but always took the time to check in with us. What a wonderful example of an exceptional employee. Jenny at the reaervation desk was also extremely accommodating. She was that friendly face who continually updated our reservations due to our numerous flight cancellations (blizzard on east coast) and did so with a smile and efficiency. Jenny even gave us an upgrade when our flight was cancelled yet another time and we were wondering when we would ever get home. Jenny is another example of an exceptional employee and merits recognition. Finally, our housekeeper was great. Dina obviously takes great pride in her work as evidenced by a sparkling room with certain personal touches that indicate her excellence. Thank you Holiday Inn Express by making our very sad stay in Portland so much more bearable. We appreciate all you did for us and will be staying with you again on our next trip to Portland.

Need to use light bulbs that have a higher output. room was dim with all of the lights on and the blinds open.

Raquel at the front desk was a pleasure to see again. She remembered me from my previous visit last September which was surprising. Her winning smile greeted me upon my arrival which was very nice.
The room is not well lighted. Table lamps are not bright so reading on the sofa is uncomfortable. The CFL lamps just don't emit sufficient light.

I arrived in at around 1:00am and was courteously greeted, checked-in, and given a key quickly. The hotel exterior, lobby and public spaces were clean, and appealingly laid out.
The surprise came when I opened my door - the chain lock was engaged and the room was occupied!!! I heard some rustling from the dark room, closed the door and took my things to the front desk where I explained the situation. While concerning, the staff apologized, found an alternate room, and provided a new key quickly.
Other than this surprise my stay was brief but enjoyable. I guess I will more frequently use the chain lock myself!!

The check in experienced was awful,
The check out was nice.
The tv remote control didn't work, I missed my entertainment.
The maid service woke me up at 8am with the noise of their trash bags
