I give the highest ratings possible to the Holiday Inn Express on Airport Way in Portland!! All the staff were friendly and very helpful, frequently offering assistance. The front desk staff went over and above our requests always exceeding our expectations. The shuttle from the hotel to the airport and MAX light rail station was always fast, friendly, and very prompt. We were able to shuttle over to the MAX train station and catch the light rail an easy 20 minute ride downtown, making our travel back and forth to the Oregon Convention Center for a conference smooth and convenient! This hotel far exceeded our expectations and we encourage anyone coming in to Portland for work or conferences to consider staying at this location. It's affordability, extensive complimentary breakfast, friendly staff, and convenient shuttle/light rail make it a terrific choice!!

We stayed at a Holiday Inn Express in Washington several years ago and enjoyed a wonderful stay in a very clean, comfortable room with a fabulous continental breakfast. We were hoping for the same quality here but were not as impressed. The hotel seemed clean enough overall but not so well maintained. The peeling wallpaper and drab décor wasn't all that nice to look at. We checked the beds right away and found multiple random hairs in and under the sheets, as well as a few very small stains. The pillows were horrible little lumpy things.
On the bright side, the staff was friendly and helpful.

The sink light would not turn unless the fan was on. The shower curtain rod was very loose. The children's toilet is too low. Need an wall handle to get up easily. The Kleenex cover was falling off. We were in room 116. It took us 30 minutes to find the motel. We had to stop at an Holiday Inn to find directions to the motel.

This property is located close to the airport and major highways for very easy access to almost anywhere in the city. It has everything that you would expect from a Holiday Inn Express and a fine place to stay.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Rosemary48 Chemical Smells give headaches
While the value of the room appeared very reasonable (since I was able to get a 2 room suite for my daughters and myself), the smell of the room was terrible. Chemicals were obviously used to mask some problem and it lead to a terrible headache that I endured the entire next day. The bed was also very uncomfortable and I had a backache on top of it. Holiday Inn Express has been a reliable stay in the past, but now I will need to reconsider next time I book a hotel stay.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by AGuest2013 Reliable as always
We often stay at Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express because they are reliably clean, comfortable, and affordable.
The hotel is close to the airport, so we heard a few planes, but that's to be expected when you stay near the airport, and it didn't at all disrupt our sleep. We were also on the first floor and I was a little concerned we'd have a lot of noise from above, but didn't have any problem with that as well. Although the location is kind of far from downtown, we felt this location was convenient enough to the freeway to get downtown easily, and staying near the airport is less expensive in general.
The continental breakfast is their usual - always fine, but generally lacking in gluten free and non-dairy options. It would be nice to see some soy/almond/non-dairy milk offered and a few more options for my gluten free husband.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by MarkfromIdaho Sauna PERMANENTLY closed!!
The room was so horribly hot and the air conditioner was running as high and cold as it would go. My entire family did not sleep well at all. We were looking forward to the sauna and hot tub. The jets did not work in the hot tub and it was very disappointing. My husband went to the sauna room to find it full of ladders, tools, paint, etc. A sign on the door said permanently closed! Find a different storage place for your tools.

I am a Gold Elite member of Holiday Inn's and obviously stay often for travel. This was one of the worst experiences I have had at a Holiday Inn. We were about to leave from a week's vacation in Portland/Seattle area and stayed at the airport location. The TV did not work, the digital signal was constantly distorted which made it impossible to watch any television. The hot tub did not work and so we were told to go across the street to the sister hotel. That hotel hot tub did not work either and we were told that the service person was an old man and they were not sure when they could get him to make the repairs, possibly tomorrow afternoon.
We were also told that there would be some credit made to my account for all the trouble that we had, but I have yet to see any adjustment.
Very disappointed in this hotel.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by daniel2001 Good location, average services
We stayed for five nights at Holiday Inn Portland. Overall the stay was good, the location of hotel is great close to I-205 for day trips. Breakfast was also good. Customer service by the hotel staff was average and there was no recognition as IHG club reward member. The biggest downside of staying here especially for kids is that there is no pool at this location.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by sm813 Wished I could have stayed longer
We chose this particular hotel because we needed to be in both Portland and Vancouver, WA for family events. Another reason we chose this location is because the price was better than the hotel we stayed in Vancouver last year. I am a light sleeper and my biggest concern was being so close to the airport, and even though we heard a very loud plane land when we first arrived, and I thought "Uh, oh", it turned out to not be an issue at all. In fact, our room was exceptionally quiet with no loud neighbors or doors slamming, and the few planes we heard were hardly noticeable.
We arrived very early, and the desk clerk was very accommodating, stored our luggage until early afternoon, and told us she would have a room for us by noon. We came back around 1 p.m. and our room was ready.
My one quibble is that we had a King Executive Suite with a large work desk, and we had to hunt for places to plug in our phones, our laptops, and other electronics. There were no plugs we could use on either side of the bed, which is where I like to keep my phone. We ended up having to unplug the hair dryer and the coffee pot and use those outlets. I would suggest investing in the lamps we've had in other hotels which have outlets built into them.
The hotel itself seemed a little older, but not run down. The lady taking care of the breakfast bar had a little trouble keeping the hot foods refilled, as the hotel was busy while we were there, plus the first day the scrambled eggs were barely warm, which made me nervous, but the other 2 days the hot food was piping hot. I think they could have used a little more help in the breakfast area, but it was kept clean. Our room was cleaned well both days. We did not use the pool or the exercise room.
All in all, we enjoyed our stay, and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel.

We stayed at the Portland Airport Holiday Inn Express prior to flying home the following morning. We decided to turn in the rent car that evening. The young lady at the desk, Jenny, was very accommodating in directing us to the nearest gas station and to nearby restaurants. She arranged for the shuttle to pick us up at the car rental.
Since our flight was so early, I did not anticipate being able to eat breakfast at the hotel. However, the breakfast was ready by 5:00 a.m. which gave us an opportunity to have one of the great cinnamon rolls.
Susan, the person in charge of breakfast, was also the shuttle driver to the airport. She was very friendly and helped us with our luggage.
Overall, it was a Great Experience.

We stayed the night before flying from PDX. The rooms were great. There was a renovation underway, which I did not know about while booking. Because of that, I could not use the gym or pool on site. Besides that, it's a nice place.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by smpop16 One of my Favorite Holiday Inn's
I am suprised this location is not rated higher. Over the years I have probably stayed here 30 times and have never experienced any of the problems stated from other quests. The front desk is one of the most friendilness and attentive staff I have encountered. I am always recognized as a Platinum member and have several times been upgraded, and that is not always the case at other Holiday Inns. My room has always been very clean, comfortable and quiet. The work out area is spotless and I love the sauna. Breakfast area is clean and up to the standards I expect, in fact a good selection of fresh fruit which again, not always found at other locations. If your a runner/jogger they also have a beautiful 3.3 mile dedicated run/bike path along the Columbia River about 1/2 mi from the hotel.

My only problem was that the cushion on the chair was wet, I talked to the staff and they offered to replace it, but I declined, since is wasn't a significant problem. However, I thought that the housekeeping staff would have replaced it during the normal room cleaning.

The rooms in this hotel stink...literally they smell BAD! We did not even make it three feet into the first room. Think boys locker room, stinky feet and smoke. The second room we had smelled better but the toilet leaked so had to move a third time after being completely settled in at 9pm. The third room had a muted smell of the first. We left the window wide open and the fan on the entire time. I have never been to a Holiday Inn that did not meet our expectations and considering we were traveling as a family they weren't all that high but this was too much. Although the staff tried to "fix" the issues, we will never stay at that Holiday Inn again.
