I stayed one night because of a 7am flight out of PDX. The hotel shuttle was excellent. I arrived to check out at 4:45 and the staff was setting out breakfast for early risers. My 7 yr. old had a quick breakfast before boarding the 5am shuttle. The hotel was under remodeling, but signage and staff were there to ease navigating the hotel. The staff and services were great!. I would definitely stay there again.

When I arrived at the hotel the check-in process was easy as always and nothing out of the ordinary. The front desk employee was nice enough to provide us with a list of dining options and also offered us a ride to and from dinner by using the hotel shuttle. This was a great perk as we were exhausted from a long travel/work day. My room was on the third floor of the hotel and upon getting off the elevator I was greeted with the sound of shop vacs and other miscellaneous construction equipment sounds. They were in the process of renovating 2 doors down from me. It was 6:00 PM when I checked into my hotel and I was extremely tired from being awake for the past 18 hours between travel and work. I just wanted to relax for a bit before heading to dinner but that was not possible with all the noise. I realize that 6:00 PM is not late, but back home for me it was 8:00 PM and my body had not adjusted to the time zone difference yet. The most disappointing aspect to this is that the construction was not mentioned anywhere on the website as I reviewed the website prior to booking. There were only paper signs hanging in the elevator that mentioned the construction. I don't remember exactly what they said but the wording on them was poor and it seemed a bit tacky. If I had known the hotel was under construction I wouldn't have stayed there.
I believe my room was recently renovated, judging by the appearance. However I went to lay on the bed and turn the TV and that's when I noticed a few things. First, I went to turn on the TV and nothing happened. It wouldn't turn on. I had to turn the TV to the side and looked behind it to see that whomever installed it didn't plug it in. Simple oversight and not a big problem. Then I went to lay in the bed and you could tell that it had not been updated with the remodel. I was a bit confused as to why a hotel would spend money updating the rooms but not the beds? The bed in my room was shot. The wallpaper in the bathroom was coming apart at the seems in some spots. The worst part of this experience is when I went to shower. I woke up early the next day to shower only to stand in a puddle of water. The drain in the tub wasn't draining. By the time I got out of the shower (5 minutes later) the water was well above my ankles. It was pretty gross. I let the front desk staff know on my way out about the problem and they promised to call me by noon that day. They ended up calling past 12:00 PM that day. In the customer service/hospitality world don't make promises you can't keep. The front desk staff called and said she was standing in my room watching it drain as she was on the phone with me. I told her that was fine and she didn't need to move me to another room. When I got up to shower before heading to the airport the next morning it was the same thing. The shower didn't drain any faster and I was disappointed with the fact that I was told it was corrected. Another thing I observed during my visit was the exercise room. I usually take advantage of the exercise room at each Holiday Inn I stay at, except for this one. The layout of this building is different than others. The exercise room is located 10ft from the front desk and next to the elevators. The issue with this is that there is a large glass window that essentially puts you on display as you're exercising. People who are checking-in, standing in the lobby or waiting for the elevators are standing there looking in. Lastly, during our visit there was a decent amount of rainfall and immediately as you pulled into the parking lot there was a small lake. I drove through it with my rental SUV and didn't have any issues but if you drove a car that sits lower to the ground it could have easily led to some problems. The water was rising up the side walk to the front door and for some in those parking spots, I'm not sure how they got into their cars without submersing their feet in the water. I'm sure this isn't a huge issue as it doesn't rain 24/7 but it was something that would have been an issue had I parked in one of the first spots and needed to get out with my car.
I do not think I'll be staying at this hotel again in the future during my travels to Portland.

We consider Holiday Inn Express Airport as our home away from home. The staff is friendly and hotel is very convenient to the area....the Gorge, the airport, Portland town, the major highways...I 205, I 82.
Our family enjoys and feel safe in this hotel.
Parking is good, breakfast good and cookies at night is a great touch. Would recommend having milk available when cookies are out.
We plan to be back.
