The cost of this hotel was the highest I have ever paid for a Holiday Inn Express. The value was disappointing. No real perks for club members. The room was quiet, and everything was clean and well kept. The breakfast was very basic and low end for the price of the room. Overall, I had a comfortable stay, but spent more than expected for the level of hotel.

We chose this hotel mainly because of its location - very near the interstate so easy to find (we were unfamiliar with Portland) and handy as it is just a short walk to the shopping area of Nob Hill which is a lovely area of Portland and only a short streetcar ride from the city centre.
The room was comfortable and quiet. We appreciated the free breakfast, nothing fancy but adequate.
It would be good if they had safes in the rooms. The info said you could use a lockbox at the front desk to store your valuables, which we did, but when we went to ask for the lockbox facility the desk clerk looked at us in bewilderment, like no one ever asked for this! He had to call a colleague to find the lockbox for us.
The only real complaint is that there was only one elevator which was the SLOWEST elevator in the USA - quite a few people were choosing to use the stairs rather than wait for it. If they updated their elevator it would be good. Otherwise the hotel is fine if you just need someone clean and convenient to stop over in Portland. I'd stay there again.

The location was really great, just a short walk to a great restaurant district and access to one of the hop on/hop off tour bus stops.
I hated the rather large (I thought) cost premium for the mid-week portion of my stay.
NOTE: Two comments that can be made in general for ALL of the stays in my current trip, which may or may not apply to a specific property (Unfortunately, I didn’t take notes), which made for a more/less enjoyable experience:
1. Some of the alarm clocks provided are extremely difficult to set; instructions are difficult to understand
2. Not enough electrical outlets bedside and at the provided desk. I have a medical machine that I must plug in at night, and there are not always outlets available with a clock and a bedside lamp installed. Not all bedside lamps are of the newer type, having at least one outlet in its base. The same could be said of the desk, where there are not enough outlets for laptops, phone chargers, etc.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by KMR1111 Great location, better than average hotel
Great location for walking around Nob Hill. The breakfast was good for a HIE, but nothing really amazing. The staff was good, but didn't seem to really know the area -- we asked two different front desk people about restaurants and using public transportation and neither really knew the answer. It's a safe hotel, the rooms were very clean, and we'd probably stay here again.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by ltokc I'd stay again
The hotel was clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful. My only complaint had nothing to do with the hotel, but the map of Portland provided. I didn't care for the quality of the map (which doesn't show the intersection of the hotel). I don't mind that the map was designed with south at the top (though that's not my preferred set up), but there just didn't seem to be a set scale, as some areas are squeezed in such that the downtown portion could be enlarged to show attractions. Don't rely on it; I ended up just using MapQuest on my phone to determine how to get to our destinations.

Once you know this property is not downtown consider staying here for good value. While the web site clearly states that it is in the NW-Nob Hill area. The name can make you think it is downtown. It's not far if you have a car and want to take it. A bus stops very close by and the street car is an 8 block walk. You can get downtown in 20-30 minutes. Plusses include neat neighborhood with some very good restaurants in walking distance and even more great restaurants in the Pearl district which is not far; free parking; good discount rates; friendly service. The room is fine tho on the small side ;the elevator was very slow; and the internet intermittent; the breakfast was OK.
