As family of 4, we stayed there for 2 nights. Everything looked clean and taken care of. The room was suitable for all of us. The breakfast was ok, with some varieties. Value for money, this hotel is a good choice.

Wonderfully attentive staff. The location in Knob Hill is close to everything Portland and the best restaurants. Free parking us a plus. The hotel is very clean and in great condition. Leo and Tiffany are excellent.

This is my favorite hotel in Portland, despite having stayed in more expensive and central locations in the past. What I like about Holiday INn Express is:
1.) Ease of access by car. The bridges and freeways around Portland take some getting used to, but once you realize you can land on the door step of this hotel without touching the residential streets, it allows you to launch out into any area of the city and be there in a heart beat. That being said, you must get to know the system. For the Pearl district, you can take your time getting there street by street, OR you can simply exit the hotel and climb on the 30 on ramp, but take the Thurman exit immediately and down you go into the Pearl District in a heart beat, missing all the traffic. You are at REI in about 3 minutes, if that. I went to a concert at PSU by getting on the freeway then going towards the 26, but getting off on 6th street before going over the bridge and I was at the university in a heart beat. After the concert, it was clear sailing back to the hotel, exiting easily and parking the car. Would you like to get to the airport? Easy access from the nearby freeway. There is little noise here since the freeway becomes a residential street within a couple of blocks. So, I think they have picked the perfect location for this hotel from the standpoint of driving a car to and from the hotel.
2.) Perfect location near the best of Portland. This is a biased opinion, but I think the 21st and 23rd street restaurants and shops are the most fun in Portland (sorry other restaurants and shops). It is just so concentrated in that area and the feeling is great. All accessible by foot from the hotel. Secondly, there is a large health food store 1 block from the hotel for those who like to stock up on organic food. Third, there is Forest Park access just up Thurman (one block over from the street the hotel is on), and one can rent a bike at Fat Tire Farm and head up for miles of gorgeous Fall colors and views of the city. The Rose garden is very close and so is the zoo, Pittock Mansion and other places worth seeing near the hotel. Powell's Books is also nearby. Certainly closer than most downtown hotels and with much easier access and free parking.
3.) User friendly: The staff are really nice, the fridge is not full of junk food to be purchased at twice the price. It is an empty fridge that is there for you and your food. Maybe some left overs from the amazing restaurants that are within walking distance.
I could go on, but I'm sure that's enough. I had to write this after reading another review that panned this Hotel. They must have missed all the fun in this part of Portland. I live in Sacramento now, but used to live in Portland and when I visit, this is my favorite place to stay.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Neednicknametowork Noisy but great location
While the beds were comfy, we didn't get to enjoy them the first night due to noisy traffic. Good location and easy to find from the airport, but request a room that isn't near the road. If I had to do it again, I would probably stay elsewhere only because we ended up being sleep deprived the rest of the trip. Good breakfast and mostly good service, though (my friend had difficulty getting her cell phone charger that she left in our first room).

The hotel and the guest room were ok. The location around the hotel was boring, but the service in the hotel was good. They have laundries for the guests and maps of the city.
