Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect stay Rooms are amazing. The food was specular! The rooms were more than spacious and spotlessly clean, big hats off to the house keeping team. I was checked in by Sui and Sophie who were the perfect duo. The night manager Samantha was very friendly and helpful aswell!! I was checked out by Lani who was very efficient and jolly. Natasha was working the morning I checked out and was always one of the first to greet me as I walked past. One recommendation would be that the staff are always standing so maybe chairs would make them appear to be more comfortable. October 7, 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by chairs I hate it when a hotel only provides one chair in a room for two people. We came in tired and wanted to sit and have a cup of tea. My husband has a bad back so had the chair. I had to sit in the bed and my legs were too short to put my feet on the floor! not at all comfortable. Even a stool tucked under the desk would have been better than nothing. September 16, 2014

The room was spacious with all the mod cons but unfortunately the mattress was a bit bing-y-bongy for the wrong reasons, to be fair it was of good quality but the interior springs were well worn hence every time you turned over they creaked, groaned or bing / bonged. The bathroom was well laid out enabling quick and easy access to all amenities. The breakfast was included and adequate. September 15, 2014

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Going Downhill Gunwharf Holiday Inn is the perfect location. The problem is, their reputation is built entirely on that. The room bathrooms were not clean, the carpets in the rooms and common areas were stained and ripping up, and the breakfast was terrible. On top of that, the breakfast plates and tableware were not clean. They hotel was full, and the staff didn't seem to be able to keep up. The staff is very helpful and friendly and, as mentioned, the location is second to none. For that reason, I have stayed at this location about 10 times. Each time is more disappointing, however, and I do not know if I will stay there again. September 6, 2014

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Slightly more than adequate Anything that was good about this useful, efficient and convenient jumping off point for an early ferry to France was overshadowed (!!) by the filthy and stained carpet in room 102 - Yukk. (Management please note). At the equivalent price of two clean, charming, welcoming overnight stops in France and / or Spain, there's no excuse for this lazy, uncaring attitude to cleanliness. Only issue is the Hotel doesn't come up on the Holiday Inn website you have to go to Holiday Inn Gun Wharf to book, which is a shame as it is perfect for visiting Pompey with an excellent local environment. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Poor value for money Bed, pillows and duvet of cheap quality. Does not merit the price charged. Only saving grace is location and I guess breakfast, although it is possible to eat in the complex and have what you want. Room and corridors shabby, with carpets repairs with tape. Bathroom clean but no soap or shampoo apart from nameless squeezey bottles.. Overall, poor value for money. Needs a good shakeup. August 28, 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Reasonable bed and breakfast We selected this hotel for its proximity to the attractions which proved to be excellent. Plenty of eating places nearby. We had a family room and our party consisted of two adults and two teenagers. The room was adequate for our purposes and the breakfast has choices of cereal fruit bread croissants and scrambled eggs sausage and beans. We would stay again August 25, 2014

The staff were excellent and nothing was to much trouble ,we left our luggage after checking out with reception and they were more than happy to store for the day . The hotel is brilliantly situated in Gunwharf Quays and next to the Historic Dockyard. The hotel is clean and comfortable providing excellent accommodation. The only downside is the higher than average room rates which prevent us from visiting more often! August 19, 2014

When we arrived as a family of 4 we were somewhat disappointed to have a room next to another room with a huge hen do banner on the door- a noisy night ahead we thought. However a quick call to reception and they moved us straight away. Breakfast is basic but of a decent standard but you book this hotel for location rather than a la carte food! There are plenty of restaurants close by! Entrance isn't great, family rooms are a squeeze but overall we enjoyed our stay and the local area is great One downside- As a platinum member I was not recognised and had to ask for the benefits which was a bit awkward and never had to ask before Would definitely stay again. Could not fault your staff they are a credit to the company and themselves Beds were too soft and it was difficult to sleep. I left with backache which was not a good end to my weekend. Quality of room was good and the room was clean and tidy. Did have to ask for two bulbs to be replaced in the room which was done promptly. Thought the rate was a bit high but as the hotel is placed in the centre of Portsmouth Harbour it is convenient for everything. August 13, 2014

All the places to see, shops, restaurants etc are all close by so no problem to get anywhere. Hotel and facilities were clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly and attentive. Guests also get discount at some of the local cafes and restaurants which is nice. On the whole good value for money. August 12, 2014
