Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Things Happen But Redeemable My stay at the Claypool Holiday Inn Express was from March 23 - 28, 2014. I had several issues, the first being upon check-in. Because I had a government room rate, a rate that had been negotiated with the sales department and my company, I was harassed for a government work id upon check-in. However, a peer had gotten checked into her room with no problems. The hotel was installing new fitness equipment, which meant I could not exercise. The expectation was that the equipment was going to be up and running by Monday; however, it was checkout on Friday, and the equipment was still not functional. The breakfast was okay for your average person; however, I was going to a meatless diet and there wasn't any real options. I would recommend this hotel, as I am sure the fitness center should be up and running. The best part about the stay were the soft cookies on display every day after a long's day work. My favorite was the oatmeal, but I just couldn't work those cookies off. March 31, 2014

An hour later there was a pool party going on. Seemed suspicious since the pool was filled with small children and none appeared to be guests. January 3, 2014

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Stay SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! Housekeeper walked in on me approximately 45 minutes after I checked in. It was after 4 PM, while I was trying to get to the shower! No knock, no verbal announcement, and I had on no clothing!. Heater only worked if put to high fan but would not turn off after it reached the temp setting. Low fan would not work at all. Woke up in middle of night to find I was sharing bed with a few small ants. All that and I got a small sum off of my bill! Have stayed here ten-twelve times on business. Would be better off sleeping in the truck!! December 5, 2013

I was able to wash a load of clothes, get dinner delivered (from a local restaraunt), catch up on the news with USA Today, and relax in the hot tub BEFORE getting my work done on the free wireless. The check in staff were very friendly & helpful as we did check in early. The room was clean and comfortable as was the bathroom. The only downside was there were not enough pillows for a king size bed. August 22, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fantastic Family Reunion Gathering Lodging We had our extended family reunion this year and stayed at the HI Express in Claypool Hill. It was a fantastic place for such a gathering. We were allowed to visit in the breakfast area beyond breakfast hours and it turned out to be so convenient to so down and socialize and then go exercise, etc. Staff were gracious. The hotel was clean and the breakfast bar offered a Weight Watchers friendly breakfast bar (so long as you pass by the muffins, butter, syrup, etc.). I ate hard boiled eggs, toast, coffee, and bananas and stayed on my WW plan. Such a beautiful area! Go for the Wardell Hams at the nearby Wardell Store. Call to see if it is open. August 13, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Pleasant hospitality and clean comfortable beds I stay here 20+ nights per year and it is without a doubt the nicest offering in the area. Staff is always polite and courteous. Softest towels of any IHG property I have visited! I would recommend advance booking because it is often full. Hot, tasty breakfast ready for you in the morning. Even though this property is often filled to capacity, it remains a quiet comfortable place to stay. No noise issues from other rooms/floors. I have encountered an occasional problem with the swimming pool and whirlpool so if that is important, you might want to call ahead. Parking lot can be difficult to navigate as many of the normal guests drive large trucks making the lot fill up quickly. Fitness room is minimal. Would like to see a universal machine or a set of adjustable dumbbells. Television selection is okay only. HBO often does not work or has bad picture. July 23, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Gracious Appalalchian Hospitality Staff at Claypool Hill are EXTRAORDINARILY HOSPITABLE. The pool was not too cold and the exercise room was adequate. Breakfast was such that even a Weight Watcher (like me) could manage by making appropriate choices. The only improvement I can suggest would be fat-free Greek yogurt for breakfast. I'm coming back to the area for a family reunion soon and I will definitely stay at this Claypool Hill hotel. July 19, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nicest hotel in Claypool Hill, Virginia I've been staying here for many years and for business purposes, every week for the last year. The front desk staff are always friendly and accommodating. The cookies in the evening are a welcome touch. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The beds are somewhat warm with the mattresses, but I put down a towel on the bed and it's cooler. The bathrooms are clean and bright, but the towels are starting to get a little thin. Some rooms have a microwave and mini-fridge which work well. The internet connection works well the majority of the time. AC/heat works well. The exercise room is clean and towels are provided. The television in there needs to be able to reach a louder volume to ovecome the noise of the machines. There are 2 treadmills and a bike which all function well. The breakfast bar is pretty good, with minor changes in the main menu each day. The rooms are usually pretty quiet with the occasional loud elephant being overhead or the noisy neighbor once in a blue moon. Overall, this is the best hotel in the area and there are no other real choices to stay at. February 26, 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Smoke Free travelrs should not stay here I recently stayed at this facility. My room was on the 3rd floor. Half of this floor is designated for Smoking Rooms and the other half for non smoking. This entire floor smells terrible. My room was 325 which is at the far end of the no smolking section. The room did not smell too badly, but you could not enter the hallway without being floored by all of the smoke being generated at the other end. If you have smoke sensitivties you can not stay here. Can not comment on breakfast bar as there was a power outage and the hotel does not have backup power source so there was no breakfast available. November 19, 2012
