The only thing that would have made it better would have been a refrigerator in the room! Oh ....and no bottle of water for Priority Club Members........ Otherwise a great stay.

The rooms were clean and the beds were real comfortable. The hotel was real close to shopping,gas and eating. It was right off of the interstate for easy access. Would stay again! The pool looked great,!

My family stayed at this HI express for 3 days while visiting both the Badlands and Mt. Rushmore. It was in a great location about half-way between these two fabulous places. Or you could say it was near to neither! If I had to do it again I would stay in Wall one night and Custer City the others. It was a very busy hotel. In fact the breakfast overwhelmed the 2 staff members working the breakfast. Each day we came down to breakfast they were out of nearly everything. We came down at different times but mainly around 7:30-8:30. One day there were no eggs, cinnamon rolls(my one weakness at HI breakfast) and the pancake machine was empty. I dislike that ubiquitous pancake maker. I have travelled 3500 miles this summer and it always seems to be empty or super slow! Day 2: No meat, no eggs, cinnamon rolls yes but unheated(yuck). We watched the staff just standing around looking lost. Day 3: The worst day! No eggs, pancake maker empty, no bread, no cinnamon rolls and the orange juice was water with a bit of yellow(looked like you-know-what!). I kept saying why doesn't a manager or the desk staff(who were just standing behind the desk# come and help. Anyone can refill things! I don't know why the staff couldn't keep up. They seemed to wait until thing were empty instead of being proactive and preparing ahead.
There were only 3 towel sets in our room-4 checking in-please make sure you have a towel for everyone please.
Also, as a platinum member I would like some special benefit#they didn't upgrade us-maybe they were full). But they didn't give us any special treatment at all.
Lastly, I shared an elevator with a man in a wheelchair who went to the pool to swim with his children. I asked him if he had fun. He said no. The handicap lift battery was dead and he didn't want to have to drag his body out of the pool to get back in his wheelchair! Boo to the maintenance staff! That man missed vacation memories with his family.

I was really tired when I got over to this Hotel just near the Mt Rushmore monument. I was able to pull in and even found a health food store just down the street a really good stay. Thanks

My family and I stayed at this property for two nights and it was clearly booked full. Both mornings we were up for vacation activities at 7 am to find no ice in the ice machines and very little food left in the breakfast area. We eneded-up having to each breakfast elsewhere both mornings. The hotel was clean, but just overwhelmed (apparently) by a full house.

Every detail of our stay was fantastic! From check-in to check-out. The front desk was great, the girls handling the breakfast was perfect. Always had hot coffee going and snacks were good. Rooms great. I cannot say one negative thing about this hotel. It was our 5 time staying here.

Quiet Room - even though the hotel was full the entire time we stayed. Very comfortable beds. Nice breakfast selections - similar to other major hotel chains now. And the water pressure in the shower was AWESOME. Will stay again.

First of all the staff member checking us in was picking at her hair. She did not recognize me as a Priority Club member. We were there after 4:00 pm. Our room was not ready. We sat in the lobby for about 1/2 hour before the staff member that checked us in said our room was ready. The other staff member that was behind the counter apologized for the wait, not the one that waited on us.
I've stayed at multiple HIE motels and have never been treated like this. I've always encountered enjoyable staff members and have never needed to complain. This time I was hoping that you would ask for a guest review so that other guests at Rapid City would not encounter this behavior.

Many extras that were not expected. Can not say enough nice things about the property and courteous staff.

This is a decent hotel but the breakfast is terrible. You will be lucky if you get any fresh fruit, milk, or yogurt. The attendant might bring out a banana or two at time and the same with milk and yogurt. The same holds true for the main course, whether it is scrambled eggs or omelets. I sat there waiting over 20 minutes for the attendant to bring out some scrambled eggs and I finally gave up and left. The breakfast bar is rarely set up on time; it is supposed to open at 6:30 a.m. but there have been times when you’re lucky to have the food ready before 6:45. When you ask them for something they look at you like you’re bothering them or they totally ignore you. The fitness center also leaves a lot to be desired. They have mediocre equipment that is often out of service and they do a horrible job making sure there are towels or disinfecting wipes that you can use to wipe down the equipment. If you don’t care about breakfast or exercising, it’s a good place to stay.

The deck clerk seemed put out to have to check us in late on our arrival. The key didn't work and needed to be reprogrammed 4 times before we could get into the room.
The room was up nice and comfortable once we got in.

We have stayed at the Holiday Inn Exrpess in Rapid City on disc drive four times this over the last five months and have found our room very clean, quet and comfortable at each visit. The staff are helpful and have been attentive to our needs. The breakfasts are warm and fresh tasting. The location is very handy to the interstate and yet the hotel rooms are very quiet. I would highly recommend this hotel as it has been consistently pleasant, clean,and comfortable over multiple visits.

I stopped at Rapid City for the night on my way to Idaho. The room was great, everything was perfect. It was not until a day later that I realized my prized Alexanderite and gold ring was gone. I had had that ring for 30 years and turned down many high dollar offers for it. I was frantic as I searched my vehicle, bags, I turned everything upside down. As a last resort, I called Rapid City Holiday Inn Express and asked if they may have found my ring. The answer was YES! The maid had found it in my room and turned it in. Management told me they would mail it to me. I cannot tell you the relief I felt and the respect for these folks being so honest and forthright. Thanks so much!

I have had very good experiences when staying at other Holiday Inn Expresses, but have to say I would not stay at this location again. The lobby looks as though it has been recently updated, and was inviting and clean. The staff was entirely pleasant and helpful. However, hallway carpets were old and dirty looking, and my room had a not so fresh smell. The bathtub had hair in it from a past guest and the bathroom itself did not smell clean.
In addition, I heard what I thought was drilling going on early the next morning. I suspect, however, that it may have been woodpeckers, because I saw artificial owls perched on the side of the hotel across the way.
Also, my room was very close to the vending area, and the ice machine was loud! Not much that can be done about that, the problem would be the same in any hotel that didn't have a door shutting off the vending from the rest of the hallway.
I checked out of the hotel and spent the remainder of my stay in Rapid at a different hotel. It was comparable in amenities and $20 cheaper a night. Although the pillows at the HI Express were better, the overall improvement in cleanliness and smell was well worth it.

Room had a foul odor. Breakfast was served late all 3 days. Staff less than accommodating. Asked for complimentary water as a priority club member at check in. I was told this hotel does not honor that service. Asked for free newspaper was also given the run around and had to show Platinum level priority club card to receive newspaper.
