Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 Friendly staff and excellent beds I have been with IHG for many years since I can find them anywhere I have traveled over the past several years. The experience here is consistent with what I expect in any HIE or other IHG brand. I enjoy traveling and staying in hotels, likely a great deal to do with my continued good experiences in their hotels. HIE Ridgeland welcomed me with the friendliest of staff at the front desk and sent me on my way the next morning with the same. Even the woman responsible for breakfast was exceptionally friendly and courteous. HIE Ridgeland was also a very convenient location for my weekend. February 26, 2015

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by A Disappointing Stay Just over a week before, I was in Jackson for work and stayed at a different property that is close by that was recommended by my company. We had been encouraged to stay at that hotel again but the desired rate was not available at that hotel so we booked with Holiday Inn Express. I was very pleased with this as I had known HIE to be a great hotel chain from past experience and had wanted to stay there is possible. However, this stay did not meet those expectations. Check-in went smoothly with a very friendly staff person. But when I checked into my room and began to unpack, I noticed some crumbs or kernels on the carpet. There was some hair on the floor in the bathroom. It was late, I was tired, and always bring house shoes, so I considered saying nothing and going to bed. When I pulled back the sheets I saw crumbs in the bed. I turned on more lights and noticed scattered bobbie pins and a hair band on the floor. I called the front desk and he offered to move me. He arrived and while friendly, he seemed disinterested while I attempted to show him what caused my concerns. He did apologize and gave me keys to new room but made no effort to help me move my things or even hold the door. He assured me he had checked the new room and it was fine. While the new room did not have hair pins or kernels, it clearly could have used a vacuuming. There was a large cobweb in the corner directly above my bed. I had assumed that it was possible that the bedding had not been changed in the previous room, but the linens in the new room looked like they had been pulled from a pile after drying in a wadded heap. The flat sheet had a small rip and there was no mattress pad. He also neglected to mention that by changing to this side of the hall, I would be adjacent to a railroad track -- this was determined when the train came through at 5am and also at 10 pm the following nights. The condition of the room did not improve much over the stay. The cob web remained for the entire time. While I knew it was my own hair in the bathroom floor, I was still disappointed to find it after the room had been cleaned. I am a good guest (I put all toiletries out of the way, leave towels in a pile, leave a tip) and felt like I was putting more effort in than the hotel. There were issues every morning at breakfast from running out of knives, plates, or pancake mix or to the juice machine not working. We did not receive our folios under our door or by email so I had to request this at the desk the morning of checkout and was told they had to email it since their printer did not work. The staff was polite and courteous and even apologetic, but they just seemed to accept that this was the level of service available. Since I am an IHG member, this was just not what I expected.
