Used our IHG points. Got a room with a poor bed mattress, less than clean room, water pipes that banged throughout the night, paper thin walls that made the night noisy... people roaming the halls and slamming doors into the wee hours. The place is dated and needs a serious make over. If this was my first stop at a HI Express, I would never visit another!
On the positive, the staff was helpful including the breakfast staff and the food was good.

Hotel was one we had stayed a before. This time it was considerably less maintained. Hair in bathroom and on nightstand. Dirty carpet, overall dirty

We travel to Myrtle Beach twice year and break up the trip from the North East. We usually stay in Emporia VA but decided to push a little farther south in Roanoke Rapids. We stayed here October 18, 2013. we arrived around 10:30 p.m.. The desk clerk was very friendly and efficient and had us checked in and to or rooms quickly. Room was clean, mattress was the way i like it. Breakfast was great. A little fresh fruit would make it greater. there is a gas station nearby and Starbucks down the road so everything you might need is available in one stop.

I found out that this hotel doesn't have a guest laundry, while I was carrying a bag full of clothes with me. The kind ladies doing the hotel wash offered to do it for me, and after they even brought them back to my room!
It was a busy week with several buses unloading their passenger's for a night. The lady working the breakfast buffet was unbelievable and kept the area cleaned and restocked throughout the deluge.
My only real complaint is with the WiFi, it barely sent a signal, even downstairs at the hotels computer! I remember from last years' stay the same problem and I would think that this should be fixed quite easily by contacting the service provider. As a business person, the internet is vital for me to complete my work, if I return next year to the same problem, I'll tell the staff we love 'em and then go to the Hampton!

Although I did get a non smoking room, the halls smelled like a smoking lounge. The bed was lumpy and the bathroom needs remodeling / updating.The staff was friendly but the shortcuings of this HI Express are due to corporate! Middle of the price range for all nearby competing motels but not worth the extra money compared to offerings near this exit on NC I95. JUST banning smoking would work wonders for this place!

Old renovated property with nearest restaurant 5 mi. Inside halls & elevator smell of smoking and mildew. a/c very quirky. needs new mattresses
