Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good hotel This hotel is as enjoyable as any other Holiday Inn Express. Pros: The underground parking is a huge plus in the winter months. They have great food options in the parking lot; Toppers Pizza, Cousin's Subs, and Cherry Berry. There are also other options within walking distance. The staff is friendly and the amenities are reasonable. The pool and hot tub were nice. If you get a parking lot view, you will be able to watch the helicopters land on the hospital. Little kids love it. Cons: The fitness center was a little small with free weight dumbbells, two treadmills, elliptical, and bike. August 19, 2014

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by HIghway noise level incredibly loud ThIs is a fairly new property and up to Holiday Inn Express standards in staff, appearance and amenities but if you are a light or medium sleeper, the highway noise if you are facing the highway is awful. The lighting in the bathroom and by the beds was dim and made using the mirror difficult in the bathroom and made reading in bed less than comfortable. The staff was great, the breakfast was what was expected and the stay would have been great if not for the noise and dim lighting. August 16, 2014

It is a bit further from the Mayo Clinic/Gonda building facilities than other hotels, but transportation is provided to and from as well as the drive is only a couple minutes with easy/affordable parking available at the facility. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by One of the worst nights I've ever had in a hotel I've stayed at a number of Holiday Inn Express hotels, some great and some just mediocre, but this one stands out for being the absolute worst I have ever stayed in, and possibly one of the worst experiences I've ever had in a hotel. I came to Rochester from the East Coast, and I had started travel at 6am east coast time, so it was pretty late by the time I checked in at 9:30pm central time. Although it was July, temps outside were in the low 50s. Yet when I entered my room, the air conditioner was blasting on the highest fan setting, set for 60 degrees. Not only does that seem like an incredible waste of energy, but it apparently also broke the system because within an hour of my being in the room, the fan seemed to go off kilter and was essentially broken. Either there was an oppressively loud and continuous noise, or I had to shut the thermostat off completely. I immediately called down to the front desk, only to have the person (with quite a bit of attitude, mind you, but her complete and utter rudeness and lack of customer service skills was the least of my issues) tell me there is no onsite maintenance person. Upon my pushing it, she told me that a person who lives 25 min away could be called, but again, her attitude pretty much conveyed that she had no interest in ensuring a quick remedy to the problem (not to mention that just because the maintenance person is 25 min away doesn’t mean that person is going to arrive within 25 min, or to fix the problem within a reasonable timeframe). It was already 11:30pm as far as my body was concerned, and waiting until after midnight when I had work appointments starting at 7am the next day was not an option. I asked to be moved to another room, and was promptly told (again, with an incredible amount of attitude) that there were no rooms available. This was a random Wednesday in Rochester, MN, and I would love to know the veracity of that claim. I then asked to speak with the manager, only to be told she would not be available until 9am the next day, long after I was to have checked out. So no maintenance within a decent range, and no manager available. What proceeded was one of the worst hotel stays of my life. I was literally shivering in bed and was still wide awake at 3am (central time). The room had a filthy, stale smell that was utterly intolerable. I tried to crack open the window to attempt to get some fresh air circulating in the disgusting room, only to find there must have been holes in the screen, as I was then bombarded by flies and other insects and had to shut the window again. At certain points in the night, between the shivering and the stale air, I literally could not breathe and was at risk of having an asthma attack provoked. Overall, as someone who takes at least 2 trips per month, and who routinely stays in Holiday Inn Express hotels and equivalent brands, this was one of my most miserable experiences ever. I was amazed by how poorly maintained the room was, and how dirty everything was. At one point, I attempted to warm up by making hot water via the coffeemaker, only to find the water in the cup to have particles floating in it – disgusting! Even the towels were of a lower quality than I’ve found in other Holiday Inns. I understand these are all franchises and that I have to take some discrepancies in quality with a grain of salt, but this particular location is one that I simply can’t believe is even allowed to maintain its franchise license. At certain points in the night, I was so utterly miserable that I contemplated sleeping in my rental car because at least there I could circulate some air and have it be a normal human temperature. In retrospect, I should have simply left the hotel and found another room, but it was so late at night, and I’m a woman traveling alone, so I wouldn’t have felt safe doing so. I will never stay at this hotel again, never recommend it to any of my colleagues (who do indeed travel to the area often), and will strongly reconsider ever staying in another IHG hotel again – now that I realize that an onsite maintenance person is not a guarantee, even in a poorly maintained and run hotel that ought to know to have someone on hand, I am completely reevaluating my preference for this brand of hotels. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by A subpar stay When a family needs to get up at 6am, the last thing we need are kids running through the halls and jumping off beds on the floor above us until midnight. I also waited at the front desk for help twice on Saturday night without anyone ever coming. We had 4 people in our room but yet only got 3 towels both days and no new cups, ice bucket liner, face wipe, etc. the second day. Why would housekeeping knock on our door the day of checkout at 8:45 when we asked for a late check out? July 24, 2014

Hot would get to hot and cold would get to cold no matter what you set the thermostat to. Very friendly staff Loved the look of the blue lights outside at night. Will stay again when in the area. Because of this, we haven't chosen a Holiday Inn/Holiday Inn Express for several years. For this stay, our choice was based on location to family members in Rochester, MN. We were pleasantly surprised at our experience. The hotel was updated, room very clean and comfortable, great breakfast, and friendly staff. The rooms are clean and updated, and the beds are comfortable (which is a big plus). The staff is very helpful and friendly. They are always pleasant and respond to requests promptly. If you are visiting Rochester to go to the Mayo Clinic, the shuttle service the hotel provides makes getting to and from appointments easy. The facility is newer, very clean and the staff make good eye contact, ask how your stay was and truly care about your comfort. Breakfast was very good with lots of choices. The woman who worked the breakfast was very pleasant and kept the area spotless. Beds good, clean, somewhat firm with two pillows being soft and hard. Good internet, tv, pool area and work out rooms were in good shape and clean. We stayed a week and will be returning and plan to book again at this facility. June 20, 2014
