Rated 4.0 out of 5 by 222 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable room. While the room was comfortable, clean and a little small when compared to other properties, it was adequate. The breakfast area was way too small and for the amount of people, the food ran out very quickly and it was difficult to get a seat. Would recommend if breakfast was not desired. September 24, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent location, good price. Short walk to Market Square, Alamo and Riverwalk. Good price, excellent location, parking fee was reasonable. use the stairs, this hotel has the slowest elevator in the world! September 17, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by house hunting visit we loved the hotel. its location, the historical aspect of the hotel and the staff. September 17, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Clean, Comfortable and great staff We made reservations at this hotel because we were attending a graduation. We also wanted to sightsee while we were there. The location was superb; the beds were clean and comfortable (slept great!), and the staff was excellent. If we come back to the area, this is where we will stay. Thank you! September 17, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Experience This was a return stay for me, and this experience was even better than the first. The hotel is conveniently located (within walking distance) of restaurants, coffee shop, Riverwalk, and the Alamo. It is an excellent choice! September 16, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Habitacion confortable La habitacion de dos camas es amplia y confortabe, el extractor de baño, o no tenia o no funcionaba. Las camas limpias, libre de olores y muy comodas. September 10, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good location and comfortable The stay was nice. Close to where I needed to go. Staff nice. Breakfast lady was very nice and helpful. September 10, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great location friendly staff Perfect location to the river walk and related amenities of the area. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. September 8, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Interesting Hotel was interesting in its setup. It had a past that allowed for excitement. Great place for a thrill seaker. September 6, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION, WITH A SMILE The staff, with Jennifer at the helm is ideal for this hotel. They took care of our every request, including accurate directions. The location is perfect for seeing the San Antonio sights. Bravissimo! August 31, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice location and experience...but!! I enjoyed my stay at the Holiday Inn Express here in San Antonio. The young lady who checked me in was nice and courteous. My room, though small, was comfortable and had all the amenities I needed to stay the week. I only had a couple of issues that I would see changed for future guests. One was the business/computer room. The computers were very slow and had pop-ups whenever I tried to access them. I had to restart the computers a couple of times to make them work properly. I addressed this issue to the front desk. The other thing was breakfast. Since I had to leave a couple of mornings before 6:45 a.m., breakfast was not completely set up for me to grab a bite to eat. Also, the elevator was super slow as well. Other than that, service was good. I would recommend this hotel because of the location is within walking distance to the Riverwalk, Restaurants, The Alamo, and Shopping. August 27, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by internet connection I couldn't get access for 2 days. it would be nice to have the front desk person trained to resolve it issues like that. August 27, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not what was expected but it was acceptable. Having traveled and stayed at multiple HIE across the country, this one ranked a little lower on my scale of acceptability. The rooms were a little dank due to humidity and an AC unit that was a little undersized. The hallway of the 4th floor smelled of cigarettes and the walls are rather thin if you catch my drift. The breakfast area could be more accommodating by having more seating and possibly figuring out a way to get the morning coffee and paper folks out of the way for those that need to eat breakfast. Decent selection but a little brash service in the dining area. Employee conflict is not something I want to listen to either. Bright side, short walking distance to many SA attractions downtown. Be prepared to be hit up for money at every turn as there are many people on the streets asking for money. Beware of the bus stops as this is where they congregate. August 25, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good stay in San Antonio Not a bad place to stay, room was relatively cheap, internet access was poor, but other than that was a good place. August 21, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Safety first: elevator license experied and smelly bathroon and more the elevator license was expired. I spoke with the receptionist and she said the elevator had already been inspected/certified but they haven't had the time to put the updated license in the frame at elevator wall/door. Picture attached of the expiration date! the bathroom was smelly. Could clearly see the toilet was not cleaned properly - dirty. the room urgently need painting. first time this hotel charged me for parking as a Platinum customer August 18, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by VERY SMALL BUT CLEAN TOO SMALL, FELT LIKE MICROTEL... BUT THE ROOMS WERE VERY CLEAN, DONT LIKE HAVING TO PAY FOR PARKING BEING SO FAR FROM THE RIVERWALK. August 18, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Okay Had a rough time finding a room that wasn’t occupied and had working air conditioning. Breakfast was good for a congenital style meal with plenty of choices. The late night staff was very helpful, but the early evening staff seemed to have some where else to be. Once I was able to get into a functioning room, it was good for this level of hotel. With the hotel’s former life as a jail, it’s not “new” but has some fun character (old jail bars on the original wood windows). August 16, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 Texas Its an Ok place, I long walk downtown, 6 blocks or so. They charge for parking, no idea why. Its not on the river walk, its old and they have tried to update it. Lock you car there are bums around the grounds. August 13, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Decent place to stay to access Riverwalk Room was ground floor and pool was right outside room. Rooms were small but if you are going to be out most of the time, they work. Lighting was on the dim side in the bathroom. Staff was polite. Had to ask for toiletries on 2 different occasions on a two nite stay. Overall a good hotel with 4 block walk to Riverwalk. August 13, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great hotel very close to Riverwalk Excellent service.clean comfortable rooms. Historic building very close to the River Walk and downtown. Would recommend . August 12, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good location the hotel is within walking distance from the sights. The staff was courteous and professional. August 12, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Access to RiverWalk Area Just a short walk from the Riverwalk and all it offers for visitors August 11, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable Interesting history to the building but the elevator was very hot to ride in. High ceilings in room, adequate beds not great but certainly not the worst. Friendly and honest staff. Questionable area to walk to the River Walk. We did not feel safe on the short 3-4 block walk especially as it got later on the evening. August 9, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice Hotel The Holiday Inn Riverwalk in San Antonio is a nice, clean hotel that is conveniently located for seeing the sights of San Antonio. The staff was very friendly. If I had to pick one weakness, that would be the lack of a drive where you can park, check in and unload your car. Also the ramp is located on the far side of the building and not easily accessible. I would think there should be a ramp in front of the building for those who cannot climb the steps. August 4, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Bummer Stay In SHORT.. We were very disappointed it made our stay miserable and should be a memorable one. When we reserved by phone a man answered then switched over to a woman this was confusing We were not advised about the extra cost for parking this is disappointing when you are on a fixed budget. Management did not communicate with each other (we had to explain same problems several times). Our floor did not have WiFi when we mentioned this to the evening desk clerk she was surprised and questioned us and said no one else has complained. She told us to comedown to the lobby and use the WiFi.. Next morning we spoke to the Manager and he had no information at all about our problem. That afternoon again we spoke to the desk clerk and asked about the WiFi again they were surprised of the problem "I was furious" No communication again. I was told no one else is having problems. So I asked to check it out for themselfs.. YES I was confirmed there was a problem. In sort the best they could do for us was give us free parking!!!!! REALLY!! August 3, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by great staff service Stay was good except for the bad odor in one of the rooms and the drier not working on floor five. Swimming pool a little too small. August 1, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Staff The staff was excellent and very helpful!! We were in a handicap room so the closet rack was lower but not a problem for us. The hotel is an old jail, but renovated nicely. Somewhat pricey for this location considering we used the same amount of priority club points and could have stayed directly on the Riverwalk for the same # of points. It's a good several block's walk to the Riverwalk, but again not a problem for people who enjoy walking. A trolley stop is next door to hotel if one needed it for transportation. We will stay here again! August 1, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Service The hotel itself is older but clean. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The pool is small and was quite crowded whenever we tried to use it, so we ended up just going back to the room and enjoying the AC. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would return. July 30, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable stay I loved the fact the this hotel used to be a jailhouse back in the day. Overall my stay wasn't bad, had a couple problems that I let the staff know about so hopefully they get fixed for the next person. July 30, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointing This Holiday Inn was a complete disappointment except for just ONE staff member, Monica (breakfast). When checking in, there was one person ahead of us and Monique (desk clerk) kept complaining about how hungry and tired she was to the person she was checking in as well as any other guests who happened to pass by. Making eye contact, I was trying to convey that we were tired from driving and just wanted to check in hoping she would shorten her personal conversation. When she finally got to us, she reiterated her same conversation. Finally, I just told her we were tired and hungry and she moved along. When asked about a place to eat, she suggested the diner next door. It was closed. After grabbing a bite somewhere else, we returned to the hotel only to find someone screaming and cursing out front while having a phone conversation. There was also a vagrant sleeping on the sidewalk next to the property. Parking is terrible! We couldn't find a spot the second night and a staff member had us park blocking another car. Poor water pressure for showering and no toilet paper! When speaking to the manager, we were supposed to get bonus points, but if we did, I don't see them! July 29, 2014
