Everything was great. Our room was perfect and anytime we went down to the front with any questions about the area (dining, shopping etc.) they were very helpful. The employees were friendly anytime we walked through the lobby. Would definitely stay again .

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by lmvb Great location!
It was fun to stay in this old historic building that was once a jail.
The location is within walking distance from the wonderful Riverwalk area of San Antonio and near other interesting sites such as the "Governor's Palace". The rooms were clean and comfortable. The free breakfast had a nice variety to select from. We would definitely stay here again.

Everything was great except the room was a little small. Hardly enough room to move around. If you slept on the side of the bed next to the window there was a draft, even with the drapes closed.
It was a very good location. 2 blocks from the river-walk, and 3 blocks from market square.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by RunnerAng A pleasant stay
We stayed only one nite at San Antonio N-Riverwalk Area during a trip through San Antonio, it was a pleasant stay.
The check-in desk was very friendly, helpful and informative.
We were not far from the Market Square, and enjoyed spending the evening there eating and shopping.
The rooms very clean.
The breakfast served the next morning at the hotel was good. Well stocked and a good variety.
Thanks for a pleasant stay San Antonio N-Riverwalk Area

Great hotel and even better staff. Maria met us with a smile and lots of useful information. She went out of her way to see to it that our stay was memorable. Good restaurant recommendations, information about near by sites and directions to all. She was great.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Mrwhipper The staff is great
The staff did a fantastic job! They treated me and my family like we were the most important people in the state. The hotel has a very interesting history. The room was plent big enough and well cleaned. Breakfast hit the spot.
We went during off season and had no problems with parking or the pool but during peak tourist season, parking may be a bit tight and the pool may be a bit small.

I did not stay long but enjoyed my stay nonetheless. The staff was friendly, the room was very nice, and the bag I received for being a Platinum member brought a smile to my face. I definitely enjoyed my stay and would recommend this hotel to others visiting the San Antonio area.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by BandParent2013 Comfortable rooms
We stayed in room 402. Very spacious room and comfortable bed but the musty odor was very stong. The smell went away after the AC was turned on for a while...or maybe we just got used to it. The cigarette smoke smell by the front door is also a big turnoff. As my wife and I were sitting in the front lobby area in the evening the lady at the front desk kept making comments about having to work by herself on a day when a large group was arriving....we were part of that group. The parking is very limited. We were there with 2 school busses and 2 pickups with trailers. We were told where to park but then were blocked in the next morning and had difficulty getting vehicles moved to get to our event. Kudos to the lady that kept enough breakfast food out to feed our group of app 120. Overall, a good hotel for families or small groups but I would not recommend it for large groups or people with large vehicles.

Check in was friendly and efficient. Acknowledged as priority club members and advised parking was free. We also received a bag containing 2 bottles of water and some cookies.
The room was quite small but clean and comfortable but there were some places on the ceiling which had either been re-painted or missed when the room was decorated as the ceiling had 2 different colours of paint.
Breakfast doesn't have a wide choice but there is enough. However, the breakfast area is in the lobby and, on our first morning, a beggar came in off the street and asked us for money on the excuse he needed it to get home. My wife later overheard him in the street boasting he had enough to get some beer. When you are sitting having your breakfast you don't want to be hassled this way.
Hotel is within reasonable walking distance of all amenities including the Alamo.

Location was great. Mistakenly chose this hotel thinking it was on the riverwalk a little disappointed at first but the 3 block walk was not bad. First room we were assigned had a smell ask to be reassigned and this was done promptly. Very quiet and comfortable. Loved the history behind the building.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by BeachBear Kept trying to get in our room!
We checked in on Friday, Oct 4 and were given room 404. Around midnight, someone tried to get in our room. We decided it was probably a drunk and waited for them to see the key didn't work and go away. They did, but a few minutes later suddenly the lock turned and someone was coming in our room! Fortunately, the safety latch caught. I began yelling for whoever it was to get out. It turns out it was a hotel employee! He never identified himself or knocked first. What were his intentions? We were told it was an honest mistake and they didn't know the room was occupied. Three times in the night someone tried to get in. Three times. Not acceptable. We complained the next day and never heard one word from anyone regarding an apology. We will never stay at this property again and cannot recommend it to anyone else.

NIce hotel. The beds were comfortable and room was clean. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Nice to have a breakfast available. The only thing that was bothersome was the smell. It was very musty smelling. When the air conditioner kicked in it would get worse. I would recommend staying here to anyone, but I would warn them first of the smell.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Rosannadana Very nice hotel, relaxing time
A very comfortable, relaxing experience in a nice hotel. Very clean and nice rooms with everything you could need. Queen size beds was a big plus for us with 4 in a room. The pool and hot tub were very comfortable and enabled us to come back and relax outside well into the night. Nice stroll to the Riverwalk and Alamo. Wonderful full breakfast in the morning with many choices including eggs, sausage, pancakes as well as the cold stuff and breads. Very friendly staff. If I go back to San Antonio, I'd definitely stay here. Less expensive than other hotels in the area that I looked at and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Only drawback for some - I wouldn't walk around outside alone at night.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Willy1000 Misleading advertising of location BUT
We were traveling and trying to make reservations to stay at a Holiday Inn Express on the Riverwalk while driving. The name: Holiday Inn Express San Antonio N-Riverwalk Area led us to believe that this hotel was in the Riverwalk vicinity when in actuality it is a 5 block walk to the area. That being said, we would have missed two excellent restaurants in the Market Square which was 3 blocks from this hotel. The hotel was clean and our overall stay was very good, but the area it is located in was questionable. We saw homeless sleeping in the dark doorways and got asked for handouts once.

I stay in many Holiday Inn Expresses, but this hotel was not like the others. Very clean, high ceilings, quiet and close to the River Walk. The price compared to other hotels in the area was very reasonable. It is in a historic building that used to be the old Bexar County Jail! Very cool, not creepy at all. I highly recommend this hotel if you need to be on the Walk, but budget is limited.

Nicely redone historic jail. Greek yogurt would be wonderful. Any yogurt without artificial sweetners would be a great improvement. Bathroom could have been cleaner- baseboards and tops of things not very clean. Fantastic staff.

I am not one to complain and generally deal with a lot of things that are not right. But this is the last time I will not have a request met by Holiday Inn Express and because of this I will not longer stay at an IHG property. I had reservations for two queen beds, and was given a room with two full beds in handicap. I asked for them to fix this and she would not she said it was normal. It is not normal and it is not normal to take a shower where the shower head keeps falling. The handicap room should be just for that someone who needs it and if you advertise queen bed that is what you should get. Any how good bye IHG.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by YvesMustang poor air conditioning and room too small
The old building (converted jail) may contribute to the room size (the smallest we experienced with Holiday Inn Express) but in top of it we were unable to stop or regulate the air conditioning.
The entire room lacks air movement and the smell was not "fresh"

Room was updated/modern and everything working great - including great water pressure in shower. Small pool area but big enough to stretch out and relax. Location great - close to Riverwalk but without the high price of being on the river. And best of all - the staff was more than accommodating, friendly and eager to please.

This hotel being an old jail is neat from a historical stand point but doesn’t really mean it’s the best building for a hotel. The old windows are part of the historic look of the building, but they are nearly inoperable which meant we couldn’t open them and allow some fresh air into the room. The rooms are small and not very well laid out. The pool is very small and was out of order when we were there (fixed the morning we left). There were construction workers in the hotel every day we were there which got annoying.
On the positive side, the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. They knew the area well and made some great suggestions for places to go eat. The breakfast was hot and had a great selection. It’s only a few bocks away from the river walk- nice because the crowds arent right outside your door.
If you’re looking to experience San Antonio and need a decent place that doesn’t cost as much as a high end hotel right off of the riverwalk, this is your place. If you’re looking for a hotel to write home about look some where else.
