Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Bad Management Experience Stayed here twice with groups, each time they tried to overcharge. First time I caught it the day of, the second time, I didn't catch it till after. Management is slow to respond, over 6 weeks now and while they acknowledged the amount that is due to me, they have yet to pay it. I have had to escalate the claim and dispute it with my credit card because of how unresponsive this particular hotel as well as IHG corporate (who said it isn't there problem since this is an affiliate) has been. The amenities are fine. The hotel is in the middle of nowhere but convenient if you're trying to cross the border through the Otay passing. But the recent experience with the management and the clear lack of concern about the customer experience has forced me to re-evaluate using them again. May 7, 2014

GPS had no problem finding, and has great access to freeway. Hotel staff was very friendly and always offering assistance or just saying hello. One of the better breakfast spreads I've seen. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by HIE Otay Mesa I travel quite a lot for business, this was my first stay at this particular HIE hotel. The hotel was clean and quiet. Staff was helpful and accommodating. The breakfast was the big disappointment for me, because this is one big reason I stay at the HIE hotels. I was here for a week on business. Over the course of the week I NEVER saw any of the cinnamon rolls, the warmer for the rolls was there but never turned on, and never had any rolls. The coffee pots were empty several times and there were no flavored creamers. Eggs/sausage etc. were empty several times. The pancake machine was inoperative several of the days. There was one staff member in the breakfast area and she seemed unable to keep up. If breakfast is not your thing then this hotel is a good place to sleep for the night. It is very close to the border of Mexico, right at Tijuana in a business park, so fairly easy to get to and quiet. February 12, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Another great stay at Holiday Inn Express I recently had the pleasure of staying at Holiday Inn Express San Diego Otay Mesa. This was my first visit to San Diego and I truly enjoyed myself. The staff was wonderful. Gloria was friendly and very helpful. She was also very knowledgeable about the area. Our room was very nice and roomy. I was impressed with the hotel. We definitely made use of the fitness room, business center and the laundry room. I loved the breakfast and Joanna was awesome. She greeted everyone as they came in and made sure the breakfast service was great. The food was delicious too. The location of the hotel is very close to the border into Tijuana and a shopping area. Thanks to the wonderful staff, lovely rooms and great location I would stay at this hotel again. February 1, 2014

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by A study in dichotomy I have a high regard for the front desk staff, but was pretty disgusted by a housekeeping incident. I realize that housekeeping is a thankless task, and I try to be as low-maintenance as possible. In addition, I normally leave a gratuity for their services during the week. I also prefer to save on energy by not washing my linens every day, but when I do throw the towels to the floor, they truly need to be replaced. The last day of my stay I pitched the hand towel to the floor as it was dirty and there were some stains on it, so it was know to be replaced. I came back in the evening and went to wash my hands. As I pulled the nicely folded hand towel off the rack to dry my hands, I saw that it was the same I discarded that morning - same stains and all. Man! Gross-out! No tip this week. December 12, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Staff, Great Rooms!! I have stayed at this location at least once a year for the past 6 years. The staff is always incredibly friendly and helpful. My son once forgot his beloved "blankies" and they went out of their way to find them and shipped them back to me free of charge! The rooms are very clean and comfortable. The staff is friendly, and helpful, and after the second visit, remembered me as having stayed there before, and made me feel welcome. Clean rooms, and very quiet, a little far from Downtown (about 25 minutes), but if your business is in El Cajon, Otay Mesa, National City, Chula Vista, San Ysidro, or other points to the south or east of San Diego, you avoid all the hassle of heavier traffic you'd have to deal with if you stayed in the middle of San Diego. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 Amazing staff and great "home away from home" We stayed for a week in Chula Vista while we awaited the legal paperwork for the adoption of our son. Everyone on staff was friendly and very excited for our new arrival. We had forewarned them when we checked in that we would have a newborn for a week, and to our surprise, they decorated the room with balloons, flowers, and a welcome home sign for our baby boy! They also set up a crib for us to use as needed! Anything we needed, such as an ethernet cord or faxing assistance, they went out of their way to satisfy. This was a great place to stay as we began our new adventure with our son! August 8, 2013

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by WORST EXPIERENCE EVER!!!! Terrible customer service This stay has been by far the WORST Expirience EVER!! I don't even know where to start! To begin, I made my reservations with plenty of time, when I get to the hotel my family & I had to go through NOT 1...NOT 2....NOT 3..... BUT 4 different rooms before getting settled in our room. The worst part was that that they had us going from floor to floor with all of our luggage until we were finally settled! With my wife & baby, this was very inconvinient!! The 1st room the gave us wouldn't open, so I went down to the lobby to fix that problem while my wife & baby waited outside the room. The girl in the reception said ahe didn't know why it wasn't opening, so she went ahead and activated the room card again and she had us try again, & that was a Fail, it didn't open! I go down to the lobby again & the girl gave us a different room. We go to room #2 and it STUNK like cigarette smoke really bad! We go back to the lobby & the offer us a different room. We get to room #3 &that room was perfect, no bad odor or anything. By that time we were very fustrated.Then we get a phone call, it was the receptionist, she said she was very sorry but she had to move us to YET ANOTHER ROOM because that room was NOT what we had payed for. I couldn't believe this was going on. I was very angry and upset by then! I went down to talk to them and they said they were sorry but had to move me again! I asked to talk to the supervisor & supposably she was off that day?? The next morning I has to speak to her again to she was off again!!! I never was able to talk to any supervisor or wasn't offered a discounted rate or NOTHING!! Very disapointing and was by far the WORST HOTEL SAY!! After putting me and my family in this terrible situation, I will NEVER STAY IN A HOLIDAY INN AGAIN! !! Unless I get an apology from a supervior!! August 4, 2013

This property if far enough away from San Diego to be removed from the crowds but close enough to make for a quick drive in to a parking area and allow for use of the mass transit. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by HI Express Impressive I really like the staff and how they took care of me. Their knowledge of the area, the various restaurants, and the shops close by was great. I was upgraded to a suite which was very nice but certainly not required!!! In addition my room was spotless, my bill was accurate, and my stay was great!!! I was here for a daytime work trip to Tijuana and this hotel really took great care of me this trip as well as prior visits. Please keep in mind this is not a resort hotel, and that is not to say it is not a nice hotel, but please do not mistake this for a 4 or 5 star all inclusive resort. I did hear a lot of kids having fun in the swimming pool and families having fun while I was there. What more could one ask for? The bottom line here is there is little something for all here and I hope you all can enjoy. Focus in on all the positives and leave the one or two negatives out in the parking lot. These are good folks that own and operate this hotel. June 24, 2013

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Climate control for room was TERRIBLE The air conditioner would cut off randomly. I complained to the front desk but they stated it was "normal". The room was uncomfortably hot and humid. Without a working air conditioner, the stay was unbearable. I opted to check out immediately and stay at another property. The bathroom amenities were very elegant. The housekeepers were very slow to get to our room to clean it and since then this has been improved. The location was kind of industrial. The WiFi was very slow and the t.v. channels were very limited. March 31, 2013
