All of the Staff were friendly, helpful. Alex, driver was prompt, courteous, gave good recommendations on sight seeing and restaurants. We stayed one more night to go on the Trolly city tour. Thanks to everyone for a fun vacation!!

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Smily Parking is tight
A good old Holiday Inn located in DT San Diego. Very close to the Zoo and even to Sea World. Confortable but old room and the parking is extremely tight if you are driving anything larger than compact cars. Also $16 per night seems to be bit too much. Hotel staff are very friendly in fact bit too friendly to call me "What's up dude". The staff is in his 20's and I am over 50. It wasn't someting I would expect from a nice hotel. In fact, I have never experienced it from any other Holiday Inn. Overall, the hotel was OK.

My wife and I were treated so well, we loved our stay at Holiday Inn Express. The staff was great, always checking to see if we were ok while we sat in the lounge area. One staff member, his name in Colin visited with us and made us feel so welcome. Our room was very clean and nice and they even had a signed card to welcome us. We will return to this hotel on our next trip to San Diego.

We were treated like family. We were picked up at the airport by the hotel's shuttle and were driven wherever we requested to go. The staff was friendly, caring and accommodating. We were celebrating a special birthday occasion. I would say we were treated royally. Beds were fine, the only minor recommendation would be to upgrade the pillows. Highly recommend this convenient location. Nick, Elizabeth and Midge were extremely helpful. Thanks to all!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by djlresearch Great location
Walked to the Gaslamp district, Balboa Park, and Zoo. Van driver carted us around as well. Was just two blocks from a Catholic church. Midge at the front desk was great.
The only thing I didn't like was the slow elevator. Garage Parking was tight, but once you are there, you don't need a car. Between the shuttle van and trolley, there is no need for a car.

For a short stay (Monday night only) my team was well looked after by all members of staff, especially the receiption staff (T Law). We were greeted warmly and curitiously, plus the staff were in a fun mood, which helped in the greeting we were given.
Hope to stay there again when back in the USA

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by CAT07 Comfortable Stay but can use upgrade/remodeling in bedroom
Had a great stay, bed is very comfortable! Breakfast was okay in the morning. The staff that I dealt w/ during my one night stay were great. Very helpful & courteous staff at this hotel. Chante at the front desk was very nice & efficient during my check-out process.
Not too far from downtown. We took a cab downtown at it cost like $10. Would recommend this hotel but definitely think that the bathrooms could use a little upgrading/remodeling.
Not a bid deal but something to note that's not posted in the rooms (or at least I didn't see it posted) but to use the safe in the room they charge you $1.00. No biggie at all just something to keep in mind when you stay here.
Overall, I enjoyed the hotel. Was definitely somewhere great to stay for a quick weekend get away and still wanting to be close to downtown.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by finchv314 Great room and even better service.
The peaple and accomadation was first class. My only hick up was there is a $16.00 a day parking fee and a 10% transinant tax that was not coomunicated up front. Knowing this now would I still stay there? Yes.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Madiuch Quiet - Clean - Comfy & Friendly
This particular HIE at 730 7th Ave Downtown San Diego is TOPS in every way you can measure quality. Mainly the staff is warm, sincere, knowledgeable and helpful. Rooms are always clean, quiet and have good plumbing.
I always stay at HIE Downtown every time I visit San Diego to see my daughter. Never stayed anywhere else. Always coffee in the lobby - even in the middle of the night when I come down and talk to Norville or Tom. Three computers in the lobby - work well - no cost. The buffet breakfast - Fagedaboudid! - Fresh, clean and what a variety - from light to heavy. Any time of day you come into the hotel there are people cleaning, mopping, polishing, doing windows - lots of pride.
The upper management of HIE should know what a great place this is.

Best part was the staff was very friendly and helpful but the facility is old and needs updating. My parking experience was horrible and overpriced. Could barely drive in the garage with my mid size car without hitting a wall or another vehicle. Was not worth the price.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by LRC2012 Great Service and good location
My husband and I stayed at this hotel for seven nights for a vacation. We definitely would recommend this hotel for it's services and great staff. The free shuttle to common tourist destinations and the airport was great. It's a very easy process to book the shuttle, very convenient so we used it often. The hotel location was perfect for walking to the metro station or to the waterfront / Gaslight district if able to enjoy a longer walk. Free breakfasts exceeded our expectations. We assumed just a cold continental buffet, but there also was a small hot buffet of eggs, bacon/sausage and pancakes. Another little service that people may enjoy is the nightly happy hour which lets you visit with staff and other guests. Then there are the evening fresh baked cookies. All staff were very friendly and willing to help out with recommendations of places to see, restaurants to check out, San Diego bus system, car rentals or booking tours.
The nearby Indigo Cafe was also great. Meals were delicious, prices very reasonable and great staff.
Our room was clean, the bed comfortable and rates were reasonable.

the location is ideal to enjoy the downtown attractions of the Gas Light district and Horton Plaza. Nice views since it is on a hill. Two blocks from the 6th St. Bistro which is a great experience of New Orleans dishes. Happy hour is a nice plus.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by EarthLover The Wonderful Staff Makes This Hotel
The main reason we stay at this hotel is its wonderful staff. They make you feel more like family than a guest. The hotel also provides shuttle service to and from the airport and also to the zoo.
The hotel is always very clean and recently they began to update it.
We always enjoy their breakfast buffet which is included in the price of the room. Not to mention it is located in a great part of downtown. Walking distance to the Gaslamp District and Little Italy. Also walking distance to many bus stops and the trolley system which can take you just about anywhere you need to get in San Diego
My family, friends and I visit San Diego quite often. We have many choices of hotels to stay at, but this hotel is our choice.

Breakfast was above average and the daily happy hour was very nice after a long day. Great value & I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who visits San Diego. I will also make this my first choice when visiting the area.

We stayed at the San Diego Downtown Holiday Inn Express for 3 nights in October 2012 after a Panama Canal cruise. The service at this hotel was outstanding! Everyone was extremely friendly and did everything to please their guests. Some of the great services were picking us up at the cruise terminal, taking us to the airport, to the San Diego Zoo and to the waterfront . The managers reception each night was also very nice. I would definitely stay there again.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by ROB65 Good time in San Diego
My wife and I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express last week for three nights to break up that 7 hour flight from Maui to Colorado. It was a good idea. Our flight came in at 11:30 pm. and although their shuttle was not operating they told me to take a taxi and they would reimburse me $15.00 which was about the cost of the taxi. From the airport to the hotel is about 7 minutes. The hotel also offers a shuttle to the zoo that we took advantage of the next morning and they also take guests down to the harbor where one can go out for dinner or take the trolley tour which we did. The area where the breakfast was was spotless along with the uniforms all the help were wearing.
A young fellow who worked the front desk set up reservations for us at the local restaurants. I think his name was Nick and he is an asset to the the Holiday Inn Team. The shuttle drivers were also good and could give some heads up on the restaurants. Over all a good experience.

tourists66 The room was good; the kingsize beds are very good
I only want to say that the furniture (on the floor, wall and corridors) has to be changed in modern colours. It's look very old fashioned.
The breakfast was very, very poor. Only scrambled eggs or bakened egg like a pancake with cheese between....that was nothing..and please more kind of fresh fruit to choose and the greatest thing we had found was: PLASTIC COUVERTS. Please change it in other kinds of couverts, but NO PLASTIC
I only want to recommend the hotel if breakfast facilities were changed.
The swimmingpool are not so deep enough for good swimming.
