The desk staff recommended a great restaurant for dinner as well as some sights we wouldn't want to miss. such as 'Bubble gum Alley" The room was clean, easy internet access and a comfy bed. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointed witih Service and Security While the mattress was comfortable and I slept well, the room seemed a bit dingy, and the housekeeping ladies were so hot in the basement with the laundry going on that they had to prop open the back door in order to get proper ventilation in their work space. Hope the hotel will give these ladies some proper air conditioning in the future. The front desk ladies were nice but when I asked for a late check out they said I had to join a frequent guest club first and they asked for some of my personal information that I would have preferred not give, but I needed a shower and place to change. Despite the late check-out arrangement, my key would not work and had to be remagnetized, meaning I had to parade down in my bathing suit and towel to the front desk. Another guest left a dog unattended in the room two times and it barked nonstop for more than an hour. I was concerned about the dog and was not happy with the less than professional way it was handled by the staff. The breakfast food was OK (skip the pancakes and coffee and go for the cereal and bagels) but was served with plastic and styrofoam plates and utensils...awful. Would not stay here again as there are better places by the water for same cost. Staff here were friendly and very chatty with each other but seemed to forget they were running a business and a corporate hotel. The laundry staff should be better trained and given better working conditions. The pool should be better maintained and worked on during off-hours. October 17, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Staff needs training! We were extremely frustrated with the staff at the front desk. We were staying at this property for a wedding across the street. Since we were part of the wedding party, an attempt was made by another member of the party to leave some gifts for us in our room. The staff at the front desk didn't even recognize that I was a guest at the hotel even though I am a Gold Level IHG member. My mother in law then went down to ask why they didn't show us as guests and she was told we weren't due to arrive until Sunday. What concerns me is if there had been an emergency and someone was trying to contact us at the hotel, they would have been told we weren't a guest there. Totally bizarre and unacceptable in my mind. Also, although the rooms had been remodeled, the bathrooms and air conditioning systems appeared to be a bit outdated. The toilets are WAY to low and need to be replaced. October 15, 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Passing Through This stopover on our way from Santa Cruz to Los Angeles was basically very good, with very helpful reception staff. We were well accommodated in a good room with good facilities. However our visit was marred on the second day by a member of housekeeping not doing her job. We went out about 10 a.m. and returned about 3 p.m. to find the room had not been made up. Normally we would not mind that and would cope, so we made ourselves comfortable again so that we could rest and prepare to go out in the evening. We put the 'do not disturb' note on the door. When we went out at about 5.30 p.m. there was a note in the door slot saying that the room had not been made up because of the 'do not disturb' notice. Fair enough, but what made us very mad was that the note was timed at 12.30 when the room was vacant. Reception staff were very helpful and had the room made up whilst we were out for the evening. We are finding that the breakfast here and at other HIEs we are staying at to be tired and lacking in appeal. There has a shortage of scrambled egg in all of them so far. September 23, 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Trip made comfortable by great staff This is the third time I've stayed at this hotel and each time it gets better. It's easy and convenient to book my stay online, and am treated very warmly and professionally when my wife and I arrive. Since we will be visiting San Luis Obispo more in the next four years with our child at Cal Poly, we look forward to continued positive experiences. Every one of the staff members, whether in housekeeping, engineering, front desk, and whether or not addressing my needs at the time, was very warm and friendly. The only room for improvement is in the area of internet bandwidth. I twas easy to connect to the free Wi-Fi, but the speed was dismally slow and at times (even late at night or early in the morning) practically stopped. I suspect it was due to a large number of families staying for Cal Poly's move-in day all trying to access the internet. Maybe staff can look into ways to increase bandwidth for those days of high occupancy to avoid the same problem in the future. September 23, 2014
