Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Wine Tasting Weekend We've stayed at this Holiday Inn Express in the past, for the price it is a good hotel. We usually come up here twice a year with other couples for wine tasting. The rooms are nice and clean and the staff is knowledgable and courteous. However, for me, the bed is a little hard. The breakfast offered is descent for the price per night, this saves a little for a family. But, I have noticed in the recent years the price keeps going up. This Holiday Inn is now reaching the same cost as the Hampton Inn and Embassey Suites just down the street. I have done a lot of traveling and have remained loyal to two chains, International Hotel Group (Holiday Inn) and Hilton. One thing keep me coming back to IHG is that they still acknowledge the Government rate on weekends. However, I have been told this may be coming to an end. June 25, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Decent Room We came to town for PolyCon. We chose this hotel for it's proximity to Cal Poly's campus, and for the free breakfast buffet in the mornings. The room was spacious and clean. Everything was in good repair, and the amenities were nice. I can't speak for any other part of the hotel: we essentially came back to the room, crashed, showered, then went back to the convention. All said, we paid about twice what we could have at another hotel. It was worth it, in my mind, to have something close to Cal Poly and to have the breakfast buffet. Unfortunately, the second morning there was no breakfast left. A good 20 minutes before breakfast was supposed to end, there was hardly any food left (no eggs, no breakfast meats, one biscuit). We waited around to see if more would be served, but the staff were nowhere to be seen. Also, there was no coffee. We ended up going elsewhere for breakfast, which was a disappointment. I would not immediately rule this hotel out in the future, as it was rather nice otherwise. I will certainly look for a better value when it comes to the things that are important to my stay. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Clean room, great continential breakfast, This is our 2nd time at this Holiday Inn Express and we always enjoy the cleanliness of our room. The breakfast was great and all the employees including the cleaning staff were wonderful. June 24, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Old, worn out and unhelpful... The facility is definitely showing it's age which by itself is not a problem when cared for properly. Please note I stay at Holiday Inn Express pretty regularly for work all over the West Coast and this is by far the worst experience ever. This facility has very noisy floors where any walking above you makes loud creaking noises as though the building is not capable of bearing the weight any longer. The staff just said sorry it's an old building. 1 of 3 vending machines I tried actually worked, the tub shower felt like I was going to fall through and wobbled, the valve that operated the shower was lose and the breakfast was nearly non existent. We sat down for breakfast and waited for the food to be delivered to the breakfast buffet for nearly 30 minutes as it was empty when we arrived; once it was finally refilled it fed 3 or 4 other guests and it was empty again and not refilled for the remainder of the hour we were there. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by stay excellent service and plan on coming back very soon June 24, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very helpful staff. Good location and surroundings. The staff were really helpful and provided good local information. Nice pool area and well maintained landscaping. We found the location ideal for walking downtown and for ease of access to the 101 by car. Did not like the plastic cutlery at breakfast though! June 22, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not worth the price at peak weekends Helpful and friendly staff, comfortable beds, generally clean surfaces. However, dead bugs had accumulated in bathroom light fixtures and a loose toilet to floor mount that had obviously been unsuccessfully repaired multiple times made using bathroom unpleasant at best. We were there for Cal Poly grad weekend and prices were ridiculously high for an HI Express of this low caliber... prices were roughly 3x normal weekday prices. Can't justify price for that kind room and bathroom! Next time we will commute from nicer and much less expensive hotel in Pismo Beach. June 20, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great place to stay when you drive through Califoria 1 way I drove from San Francisco to Los Angeles through Califoria #1 way. San luis obispo is a city just locate in the middle of my route. And this place is worth stay. The hotel is safe and clean, city is small but beautiful. You can go to Firestone Grill, and order a Tri Tip Sandwich with 10 bulks and it's tasty! June 20, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Surprisingly Good Property is located with convenient access to US 101. Cal Poly campus is located within close driving distance. Hotel is modern in appearance, both exterior and interior. Front desk staff was excellent throughout stay. Room was pleasant and clean. My particular room had 1 queen bed, desk/work area, and separate chair for reading, watching tv, etc. Amenities include pool, jacuzzi, laundry room. Also there is a large common area that is used for breakfast, but can be used for socializing, playing games, etc., the rest of the day. Free local newspaper each day. Only two complaints: 1) the quality of construction, this place can be noisy. Luckily, doesn't really bother me, but you can hear talking in the next room, corridor noise, and all footsteps above you. Too bad, because the actual rooms, ambiance, and staff are quite good. 2) Bath tub/shower is very very very slow to drain. Gray water builds up to your ankles during the shower and then stays in the tub for a long time. I was travelling by myself, but this would have been a problem if someone wanted to use the shower after me. Perhaps this can be fixed. June 17, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Great-clean rooms and best sleep ever. Great location to move in and move out and visit our daughter while she is in college. June 16, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Closest hotel to Cal Poly. Nice hotel and very close to the campus, although not walking distance. A car is also needed to get into the downtown area, but there are a few places to eat near the hotel that are walking distance. Plenty of complimentary parking on site, and neighborhood seemed safe. Rooms are of standard size and clean; however, the beds are in need of updating. Overall, its fine for a night or two while visiting your student at SLO. June 15, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Pushy Housekeeping Manager Appararently the "Do not disturb Sign" has no meaning to the management of this hotel. Repeated, loud, insistent knocking while I was napping. They had all day to clean but decided to clean after I came back in the afternoon to nap. Really rude. The phone in the room never worked. Reported but never fixed June 10, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Holiday Inn Express San Luis Obispo The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. I stayed in room 101 because I checked in early it was the only room available at that time. The front desk clerk warned me that the room would be very noisy (it is right by the front desk and elevator), and later she called to check on me and asked if I wanted to change to a quieter room. Noise does not bother me so the room worked fine for me. I really appreciated the care from the hotel staff. The location was also convenient for walking to several restaurants. June 6, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Staff, Great Location! Alex and Taz at the front desk made a terrific first impression! Alex followed up my registration with a quick call to the room to ensure everything was right, and it was! Taz offered up 10% off coupons for the restaurant across the street, it was terrific. This will be my 'go to' Inn for my Monthly business trips to SLO. May 31, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable stay Despite undergoing some remodeling, our stay was quite pleasant. Staff was courteous and we enjoyed a restful night. Bonus is that the breakfast is wonderful, with plenty of options. The only downside was that we couldn't open the windows far enough to take advantage of the cool evening air and the A/C wouldn't properly set to automatic so we were subject to the constant noise of a fan or had to do without it. May 30, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Nice Holiday Inn - Don't Expect Sleep It was a very nice Holiday Inn and the first floor was under construction when we arrived. Room was adequate and the rate was a special one for a wedding we were attending. I could not get any sleep though. The walls were very hollow so every person who walked down the hall sounded like they were in our room. All night and all morning I was awoken from sleep by their heavy doors slamming in each room and the sound of the elevator coming up and down as well as the ice machine. (I was 60 feet down the hall from it). Even with ear plugs, the heavy bass of their heavy room doors slamming was enough to constantly awake me from my slumber. May 21, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A very good hotel I will stay here again. It is well located in SLO, and the staff was superb. The room was comfortable, clean and well equipped. I was in town for business, but will return with my wife for a vacation trip. Thank you, this hotel was a pleasant surprise. May 12, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Just OK Average for a HI Express, but undergoing renovations that hopefully will move them beyond this level May 5, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Quality less than expected Heater fan very noisy, kept me awake Heater controls falling off wall Fan switch in bathroom intermittent April 29, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great place and excellent services I have been travel many places around the world for many years for business and personal trip. Each time when I visit San Luis Obispo or around the central coast, I will definitely try to stay in this particular hotel. It is the place that you feel like a home and the customer services are excellent and beyond. All the hotel staffs are professional especially the front desk staffs and the manager are very polite and helpful. I am strongly recommend anyone to stay in this hotel and you will feel like your own home. April 25, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Maintenance issues? Stayed at this hotel for one night, on way down the Pacific coast on a holiday. Was recognised as a Platinum member at check-in, and given an upgraded room (to a town-house room, with a lounge downstairs and bedroom upstairs). Very spacious. We had two issues of maintenance with room- one of the phones didn't work (minor point) and the sink in the ensure would not drain away. We only discovered the sink problem late at night, leaving no chance to give the hotel time to fix it. We told reception on check out. April 15, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good beds, little hot water The room was a typical Holiday Inn. Comfortable enough. Beds were in good condition. Hot water in the shower lasted less than 5 minutes. Reported to manager at front desk. April 7, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not up to par. The bathroom sink faucet leaked, the bathtub drain was slow and tub filled with water during the shower. the shower would not shut off completely, the room smelled 'musty', and they wanted to charge $1,50 each for bottled water. For the average HIE we stay in it was a total bust. We would like a free night at a HIE that lives up to the standards we are used to. April 2, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by New remodeled rooms are great I love the newly remodeled rooms on the third floor. They really bring this hotel into the future. I no longer have to think about whether I should stay here or at the Cliffs in Pismo Beach. Holiday Inn it is! March 27, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 One of the Best Motels I've visited I've stayed at the HIE SLO for nearly 3 years - logging in hundreds of nights. The staff was always there for me and they always reserved my favorite room. I enjoyed the location and the easy highway access. The local food stops were good so I didn't have to travel far from the motel. I highly recommend this motel to anyone looking for a place to stay. March 19, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by No working laundry Outside of the dated rooms, which are in the process of a much needed remodel to mirror the other HI Express properties, my stay was average. I was aggrevated by the laundry facilities being inoperative for much of my month long stay. March 7, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Friendly staff and nice hotel. What more can you ask for? Greeted by friendly staff and the room was great - clean and nicely put together. January 28, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by personal attention I have stayed at this hotel before and was satisfied this time as in the previous stay. On this stay, on Saturday evening, I returned to my room hoping to watch the NFL playoff game on CBS. Apparently whoever had the room before me pushed some buttons on the tv remote and blocked the CBS channel. I contacted the desk, and Mitchell came up to the room to see what he could do. Since he did not have the password code to alter the settings on the tv, he made other arrangements so that I could watch the game in another part of the hotel. I appreciated Mitchell's efforts and thought it noteworthy. I'm sure that he had other more pressing things to do, but he made sure I was taken care of. January 27, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Bathroom not in good repair The hotel has an excellent location and very helpfull staff. The bathroom was a poor condition with a clogged tub drain, toilet that ran unless turned off and overall poor condition. January 3, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable room My husband, two small children, and I frequently drive from Santa Cruz to Los Angeles, and always stay overnight in SLO. We usually arrive late at night, tired and ready to sleep. The staff is always welcoming and friendly...even past midnight. Most importantly, the rooms are comfortable and clean! January 3, 2014
