I stay here only for business, and the location is convenient. Last visit, they took an hour to bring an iron to me, and it was broken. I spoke to the manager who did not see this as a safety hazard. Front office staff lovely and friendly.

Stayed at this property for 6 nights in August 2013. The location is great for convenient access to Midrand for business or the convention centre. Having stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Umhlanga I expected the same ambience and level of facilities. However, this property was 100% worse than the excellent service and accommodation of the Umghlanga sister hotel. This is a huge property and it is surprising that, with nothing much around in the line of conveniences, the attached Butchers Block restaurant would be of such bad quality. Sadly it is NOTHING compared to the branch attached to the HIE in Umhlanga! The food is of such a low standard and so expensive that it boggles the mind that this restaurant still exists! Please do not eat here if you are used to good restaurant fare. The hotel's breakfast is okay. The practice of glazing croissants with honey is a bit absurd and the cold meats are of low quality. Better and stronger coffee would make breakfast more palatable. No manager ever spotted on duty and breakfast staff sometimes aloof and tetchy.

Bed, pillows and daily room maintenance was excellent.
This hotel is most under rated. Location is central and ideal for business travel.

Service that was received from staff upon arrival was very poor.
Staff didn't have a smile and check-in was to long.
Staff insisted that we had a problem with our bank cards when paying but in fact the problem arose from the hotel machine as the card was used at an outlet where it worked just fine.

I used the HIE Woodmead as it was close for business purposes and I wanted a change from B&Bs. Room was OK - just the layout of bed to desk blocks the walking space. Hot water was only luke warm and would give sudden cold spurts (??to wake me up??). Breakfast had variety but was the same every morning. Only some of the staff reacted in a friendly way when approached (reception and breakfast lady) - others gave me the feeling they were really doing me a favour by responding. I did not use any of the other facilities.
