Very clean and nicely decorated room although the bathroom was a bit small. Breakfast was a treat! Great food and excellent service. I would go back for just the food!

I'm a frequent traveler to the Portsmouth area (3 4- times a month for stays of 2 - 4 days each trip# and this is one of the hotels "in the range". I've stayed in this hotel several times. It's relatively convenient to the area, and to the things that matter to me) and it's "OK" but not great. There are lots of little things that could be done to make this a better hotel for business travelers:
1) The chairs at the work desks in the room are too low. The should come up at least 3 -4 inches more than they do for a comfortable work chair.
2) Too few power outlets. Believe it or not, there wasn't an outlet near the work desk. If you want to plug in your laptop, cell phone or anything else you have to find a power outlet, or power strip somewhere else in the room, and not at the desk. It's clumsy at best, and a problem if you're running low on laptop or phone battery -- unless you sit on the floor by an outlet.
3) There is wireless Wi-Fi in the room, but the signal quality can be spotty. Sometimes its good, other's not so much so.
4) The bathroom is poorly designed. The door can't open fully because it hits the toilet. To get into the shower you have to go in past the door to close the door to get past the toilet to reach the shower control. Pretty clumsy.
5) There's not a steam vent in the bathroom. This seems like a little deal, but if you're in a hurry to get out in the morning you'll spend time cleaning steam off the mirror to get ready. Ok if you're a guy, maybe not if you a woman.
6) This seems like a little detail, but it would help to have a channel guide for the TV.
I've found the bed to be OK, noise level throughout the hotel hasn't been a problem even with lots of vacation travelers #with kids#, the staff has been pleasant and friendly.
All-in-all, this is not a bad hotel. At the price point, there are better options in the area.

I am an extensive ICH Hotels 'stayer,' and have stayed in many many hotels overall.
This Holiday Inn is in a great location, is easy to get to and is for the most part a great hotel.
The only issues with this hotel are:
A: The bathroom seems a little tired. Not bad, typical quality for the most part, but it just needs a bit of help (shower curtain bar is bent and falling down, excess caulk trying to fix some flaws, etc.
B: The mattresses are in need of replacement. My partner has a bad back, and the mattresses in the Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express hotels are almost always superb. Not so here. I just think this old girl is getting a bit tired and needs a bit of an update.
The hotels staff: FABULOUS!!! Every person was exceedingly kind and helpful on every turn and request. I would come back to stay just because of the front desk personnel alone!

Very comfortable bed and very nice staff. The only things I would change are the pillows (they were awful and need to be replaced) and the T.V. in the elevator needs to go (was very annoying and inappropriate for children at times).

Stayed there for 2 days while visiting Portsmouth. My room was clean and every staff member I came in contact with were friendly and very helpful. Would definitely stay there again.

The service and staff were great. Very friendly and accommodating. The room was clean and comfortable. The problem I had is the room was heavily scented and overpowering for any one with sensitivities to fragrances or scents. The TV service wasn't great. I have stayed at this hotel before and have had rooms which were heavily scented and the newer rooms which are less scented. So if you have problems with allergies or fragrances I would avoid this particular location. No refrigerator in the room either.

Hotel Halls were more than stinky, they said the grease ducts were cleaned. Halls were extremely hot as well.
Hotel room bath tub was broken. Had to wait 45 min for young hotel fixer man to repair as my little 4 year old had to hold off from using the bathroom. I finally said forget it as it disrupted our evening plans and missing a dinner reservation with friends and family.
Air conditioning in room was disruptive.
Ladybugs on bed.
No breakfast included even for high rewards pts members.
Not enough parking.
Manager is unprofessional, uncourteous, and rude.
By far the worst hotel ever stayed at in USA & Europe

The WiFi was totally unacceptable. The only place it worked was in the lobby. Didn't even work in the lounge. This one flaw spoiled an otherwise great visit.

I booked two rooms for one night using reward points. The points value was on the high end anyway (35000 per night). As Platinum members we typically stay anywhere between 60-80 nights a year in the Holiday Inn & Holiday Inn Express brands of hotels. This was THE worst of these type hotels that we have ever stayed in.
1) We asked for adjoining rooms, they claim that they could not honor this request, however, one room was an adjoining room and it appeared that no one was in the next room. They put the two rooms reasonably close and this issue by itself was not an issue.
2). This was a non-smoking room.... I guess they can just pick and choose if its a non-smoking or smoking room by who they book in the room. It smelled terribly of smoke and even had a front and center Cigarette burn in the curtain. It was disgusting. After it has been a smoking room -- you cannot make it a nonsmoking room unless you have painted/papered, replaced the carpet, replaced the curtains, and the matresses and bedding, DO NOT CALL IT A NON-SMOKING ROOM.
3). The carpet was beyond nasty. It was stained and sticky in spots. I had to keep my shoes on.
4). The beds were terrible. One was loose and kept flopping around and moving. The other was totally broken and left you in a taco type position. THE worst Holiday Inn Beds we have ever had.
5). Both lamps were broken and they didn't even bother to fix them or replace them.
6). Bathroom mirror had not been washed....it had speckles of toothpaste on it and waterspots.
7)Not sure how, but the picture in the bathroom was nasty and had pieces of hair stuck to it.
8)Just walking down the halls you could tell the hotel had not been taken care of. All the doors and frames had had issues and instead of sanding the paint down and fixing properly they just painted over and it looked terrible.
THE worst Holiday Inn we have ever been in. Seriously, when you have a platinum member come in, at least try to put them in a better room.
We got there late and were only staying for one night.... I was exhausted and didn't have the time to deal with the front desk once we got to our rooms.

We had a n early start to our day so we were extremely happy and appreciative when we allowed to check in early. We were blown away by this thoughtfulness especially because it was a rainy day. The room was clean, bright and spacious. To our great delight there weas a microwave and refrigerator. This delighted us because usually you don't get both. We enjoyed every minute of our three-daystay and plan to return next year!

I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. The room was average, but my wi-fi reception was poor to non-existent, possibly due to the location of the room at the far end of the property. That alone would preclude me from staying at this hotel in the future.

My stay overall was very good. The workers at the front desk we cheerful and very helpful. I was disappointed that the pool was closed during my visit which was a reason I decided to stay with the Holiday Inn. My stay was for five days and it was overall a good stay .

Our experience in the lounge was great....the bartender/server was excellent and our meal was served hot and was delicious. Our complimentary drinks were a plus.
Breakfast was not so good. The staff was not there to greet customers.....and at the time we came in there were very few. There appeared to be discontent....think it was the cook or someone from the kitchen came out to replenish one of the serving containers and was ask about getting some toast.....the response was curt...everything we have is out here!!!!! A couple minutes later someone came out and offered to get toast for the customer.....
Generally not a very happy group of people working on the breakfast crew that day......

The location is convenient, close to the highway and only a 5 minute drive from downtown. The hotel seems to have been renovated recently which was nice. The bathroom was very tiny and we found long dark hairs on towels in the bathroom as well as in the tub. The carpet was sticky all over and curtains were torn. The blackout shades had holes as well. We also found hairs on the sheets and pillows. We were only there one night but based on the lack of cleanliness I would not go back.

This hotel is located minutes from all the downtown shops and restaurants. I knew its location from working in Portsmouth. There is NO need to spend more on a room with a view of scrap metal or salt piles. This hotel is right next to a great diner for breakfast, and right off the highway. Nice bar, nice room, and nice service. Do yourself a favor and do not overpay to stay in Portsmouth. Stay here.

We stayed on the 5th floor which must have air conditioner equipment on the roof as there was a constant noise and vibration in the room, the bed is one of the worst I have slept in, it was sagging in the middle and very lumpy, and there was a smell of sewage every now and then, not sure why.

Upon arrival I was warmly greeted by hotel staff as a Priority Club member. I was given a room on the second floor above the lobby overlooking the parking lot. I could hear the voices of folks holding conversations in the hotel lobby. I could not make out their every word, now was I trying to. However, I was aware of each new conversation.
My room lacked a desk. Since I was in the area for work, I asked to be moved to another room with a desk. The clerk told me that there were no other rooms available. She asked me if there was a table in the room, to which I replied--yes, there is a table but no chair. She then sent a worker up to my room with a straight backed dining room chair.
I found all the bed pillows uncomfortable and slept without a pillow rather than use one of the hotel pillows.
Hotel staff were polite.

Overall we found our 5 night stay quite good. There were only two issues.
First, when we arrived the parking lot was blocked off with cones. I had to drive around them to get in. Once at the desk I found out they were painting new lines the next day. The problem was that there was also a lot in the back, but I did not see it, nor were there any signs pointing us to it. We had never been to this hotel before.
The other issue was the tub drain. It was blocked so water kept getting deeper during the shower. I reported it the first morning but nothing was done to correct it during our entire stay. I did not feel I should have to report it multiple times if the desk clerk was competent.
Otherwise the hotel was very nice. Other than the small bathroom, we found the food very good- breakfast each day and dinner about 3 times. Better food than most Holiday Inn restaurants we have been in!

The front desk tracked me down (not a simple task) to tell me I left my lights on. Simple as this seems, it saved me a world of hassle in the morning dealing with a dead battery. Only one problem with HI Portsmouth otherwise my stay could not have been better. My room was on the top floor(5) and at the end of a corridor, as a result I could not get a WiFi connection. I went down to the lobby and it worked just fine but having such an"outlier" room kept the signal from reaching the top floor extremities.

the bed sheets were soiled. I asked for replacements, and 3 different times I was brought the wrong fittings. The bathroom is really small. The hotel had a musky odor. Overall, the stay served my needs, but not sure I would stay there again.
