Good value choice for the Monterey area, very close to the Monterey without paying premium price.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by mariamariaa Love holiday inn express but was loud
I have stayed here before and it was excellent. This time around, it was really loud outside and me and my boyfriend could not get any sleep. I couldn't tell if it was construction going on or just noisy people.

The hotel was very convenient and comfortable. Nice staff. Good breakfast. Lobby was under renovation. Other than that, it was a very nice stay.

Overall, this was a pleasant place to stay, but the wireless connection was spotty at best. I was forced to log off/on multiple times per night just to stay connected so I could do my work. I highly recommend an upgrade to the wireless network.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Navymom123 Nice location with walking trail.
We stayed here for three nights while visiting our son who is attending the nearby Naval Postgraduate School. Very nice, clean hotel. Excellent free hot breakfast, with slightly different choices each day, which is good for those staying several nights.
There is a small lake right in back of the hotel with a paved trail that encircles it, about 1.5 miles in length, I estimate. We enjoyed walking this trail every evening, and sitting on the deck overlook while watching the ducks and other resident waterfowl.
One of the front desk staff was very helpful when I could not get the printer in the "business center" to print our boarding passes. She went to the airline website on her own computer and printed the passes for us. Thanks!
Fresh warm cookies in the lobby in the evening!
Only complaint is the weird shower "enclosure" in the bathroom. It is a walk-in shower with no curtain or sliding glass doors, but just a glass partition that only covers the front half of the shower stall. The back half is completely open and water sprays all over the outer floor when you shower, even when we tipped the shower nozzle pointing straight down to the drain. When you put a body under the spray, well, the water flies all over. You step out onto a soaking wet bath mat and slick wet floor. We had to towel-mop the floor after every shower, because there is no way to keep the water in the stall. They need to hang shower curtains instead of this New Age minimalist shower design.
Other than this weird quirky shower, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel.

Great Holiday Location if the Intercontinental in Cannery Row is out of the budget. Clean updated style in the lobby and rooms.
