We had a top floor room with beautiful harbor and mountain views; quiet, clean, comfortable, and spacious. Front desk lady was very friendly and helpful, seafood restaurant she recommended was great. Breakfast was good. The hotel is a little dated, but I will stay here again for its excellent location and friendly staff.

Omelet with cheese instead of the usual mushy scrambled eggs was great. Loved the pancake machine. Loved the bacon instead of the usual greasy bacon. Loved choice of fruit and yogurt. Your staff was excellent. Breafast attendant super nice, friendly and did great job keeping it stocked. Front desk lady was very nice and helpful. Room overpriced but I'm paying for the location, right?

Beautiful location: most activities within walking distance, great restaurants within walking distance and nearby, and all the staff is caring and friendly.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Manika Great service and good breakfast.
We had a very pleasant stay at this hotel. The location is gorgeous and we had great views from our room. The service at this hotel was excellent. We have a toddler and I needed to order milk a couple of times to my room. They delivered the milk at late hours without any charges.
The amenities in the room were well thought of.
Overall we had a great stay here.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Bufo Worth the extra cost
There are cheaper places to stay in Seward but I can't imagine any of them being an overall better value... and I did search! The location and amenities are well worth the extra $'s to stay at this HIE.
It was something to look forward to at the end of long busy days hiking and touring. The hot breakfast allowed us to get up and out earlier in the day, especially with two teenagers. The view of the boat dock and mountains in the distance was stunning.

We had a top floor room with balcony and a harbor view. It was fantastic to walk out on the balcony and see the fishing boats. Our room was quiet, our beds were comfortable. The bathroom is updated and very spacious. The breakfast has a lot to choose from. You can walk to a lot of shops, restaurants, and the Whale watching companies - so very convenient . A great place to stay.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by MJFPhD Overpriced and Undersized.
After allowing for great location and seasonal demand, our stay was priced at about twice the value for a small basic room; with a reservation made several months in advance, we'd expect higher value.
A major (purportedly mid-priced) hotel chain without the usual amenities, like flavors for coffee.
A PC for guest use with a cheap word-processing program not compatible with my documents in MS Word. C'mon!
After the hotel ran out of pancake batter for both days of our stay, the options for breakfast were weighed too heavily toward high-fat, high-cholesterol, and health-unconscious alternatives.
Would not go back.

We had a truly enjoyable stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Seward, Alaska. The location was perfect for us. It islocated on the small boat harbor and is only a few minute walk to the tour boat docks. Our room was quite spacious, clean, and we had a balcony with a view of the mountains. The breakfast selection was excellent and we really appreciated the convenience. It was a bit expensive, but well worth it for the amenities and location.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Kimberly333 Best Choice for Seward Hotel
If you are lucky enough to get a waterfront room try to ask for one with a balcony. We unfortunately did not have one and wished that we had. Great views looking out to the marina and the beautiful landscape beyond. Even watched our cruise ship arriving into port from our room. Also enjoyed watching all the fishermen heading in and out during the day. Very picturesque and entertaining!
The room itself is nothing special and could use an update but choices in Seward are very limited. This is the best best in Seward and located within easy walking distance to several restaurants and shops. Also just a short walk from the train station. The hotel picked up our luggage for us and we took the 5 minute walk to the hotel. We also received great service from all of the employees we encountered. Everyone was very friendly and helpful.
The free breakfast in the lobby overlooking the marina was a great place to grab a cup of coffee along with some yogurt and a bagel.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Superlobbyist A great location and very good facility
Top Floor corner room with a fantastic view of the harbor and surrounding mountains. Room was spacious and comfortable. Beds were very good; bathroom was well-appointed. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Location perfect for cruises, fishing or sight-seeing trips on the water. Best restaurants in town just a short stroll away. Only gripe was the quality of the breakfast and lack of a couple of usual items on Monday, which was explained away by staff as "typical" for Mondays, which I didn't find very persuasive.. No fruit??

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Salesh Comfortable room with harbor view
The room was comfortable. Every alternate room facing harbor has balcony. So, as a tip, always ask for a harbor room with balcony, if you like one.
Breakfast was good.
It has perfect location in main downtown Seward.
On the harbor, there is Seward Fishery factory nearby, which makes noise early morning. So you feel the noise in the balcony, though not inside the room.
Though being a platinum Rewards member, they were not willing to give us a room with balcony, claiming all were full!! We had to argue to get one, though we had checked in early around 3 pm

i asked for a third floor, harbor view room with a fridge & microwave as we were on the road with 2 kids. i also like to be able to keep the curtains open without being on display to people walking by. when we got to the motel, i was told i could have either a fridge & micro on the first floor or a third floor, harbor view with neither fridge or micro. feeling a need for @ least a fridge, i took the first floor room. the room itself was fine, but it seems the motel prices are quite sufficient to support a fridge & microwave in every room.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by celestial389 Outstanding Views and kind staff
This facility is so easy to access. It is only one block from the train station and 2 blocks from the port/day cruise office. The view of the boat harbor is lovely with the mountains in the back sprinkled with small glaciers. The reception desk staff were very kind, and though the hotel does not have a bellman or luggage service, the manager was willing to take our bags up to our room if necessary. The desk clerk stored our luggage for us in a safe place while we did a little sightseeing until our room was ready. We came in much earlier than expected so the room was not quite cleaned. The room was quickly cleaned with great mattresses, though smaller than some facilities I've stayed in. This appears to be an older hotel, purchased, updated and run by Holiday Inn Express, so you will see some furniture that is not quite up to the usual standard, but it doesn't detract from the overall ambience. The breakfasts are great with a full variety of items and everyone eats there. A free city shuttle service is available right across the street from the hotel. This service takes you all the way to the SeaLife Center and the small older downtown area. Several restaurants within a 3 block walking distance. I'd definitely stay there again if ever in Seward.

Stayed August 6-8, 2013 and while the weather was gray and damp, the hotel was comfortable and we had great views out our waterfront rooms. We walked into town (about a mile), and the waterfront restaurants were only a couple of minutes walk. Definitely would stay there again.

Very nice people! Teresa the breakfast hostess ....... A jewel!
Got to meet the GM, Mr. Volker. Very nice, always working.
The only thing we missed was an exercise room. Could not do our daily walk because of heavy rain. Wished you had a treadmill.
Also, lots of hotels now include a small refrigerator. Missed it here.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by CaliforniaCathy loved the upgrade to a balcony room!
We arrived on the ARR from Anchorage and were able to check our luggage thru to the HIE. Nice perk! Because we arrived just after 11am, the rooms weren't ready yet. At check-in, we were informed that because the hotel was booked full, and we had reserved our room so far in advance, we were being upgraded to a balcony room. I had originally wanted to book a balcony room, but I decided I would save a little money and just get a harbor view room, so I was a happy girl with the upgrade! The staff was really friendly and even though we had to wait about 4 hours for our room to be ready, they held our luggage so we could walk around and get some lunch while we waited. The room was typical, but we did enjoy the balcony and the wonderful view of the harbor. The following morning we had the regular free breakfast and then paid $2 per piece of luggage ( and case of water ) and had the hotel transfer our things to our ship while we went out to the Kenai Fjords for the day. Another nice thing! This HIE was very convenient and although a little more $$ than most HIE, I would recommend it, especially for those heading out on a cruise.

We certainly enjoyed our two night stay at this beautiful harbor location. The staff was friendly and proficient to all our needs. The breakfast buffet aided our early morning needs after sleeping in their comfortable beds. We highly recommend this wonderful hotel and plan to visit again during our next visit to Alaska.

This is a great location. The room was large and comfortable. Fresh baked cookies were a real treat after a busy day sightseeing. We did drive past a couple of times and missed it due to lack of Holiday Inn signage. But I do understand why.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Dawn555 Good location, average room
The rooms need updating. The linens on the bed were very worn. I would request an upper floor as there was more noise on the lower floors. Enjoyed harbor view. Priciest of our five hotels in Alaska, and this room was the most disappointing.

This is a perfectly fine hotel with a wonderful location by the harbor. The breakfast food is just so-so, but that's okay. The harbor view rooms are great and everyone was very nice. It was perfect for us since we were going out on a small ship cruise from Seward Harbor. We stayed the nights before and after here. Clean, comfortable rooms. I would stay here again.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Joe7Red Average Hotel, considering the location
The Holiday Inn Express at Seward is an average hotel for the location and compared to other Holiday Inns I have stayed at.
I'm a platinum member and travel globally, so I speak from experience. The hotel is in need of remodeling/updating. The staff for the most part were helpful, however be prepared to wait until 4 pm to checkin (even if you are a platinum memeber). No one ever asked if I was a premium member and when I showed my platinum card at checkin the receptionist told me that my number was added to my account to ensure I got credit for the 2 day stay and no offer to upgrade my room. Needless to say, that did not happen and I had to contest my visit to get the point credit. The tv and internet connection were old & slow. The breakfast was typical Holiday Inn food stuff.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by menothappy worst holiday inn express ever stayed at
The computer, if you can call it that, was pathetic.
Only one terminal for the entire hotel.
Personal e-mail was blocked. We and others that we talked to could not access their personal e-mail. This is a BIG PROBLEM when you are traveling and doing hotel reservations!!
Minimal small elevator. High price, no view.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Dudleymom Great View!
We had excellent service while at the Holiday Inn Express. Our 3 days after finishing our cruise in Seward was a great way to unwind. It would be helpful if a shuttle were offered from the cruise terminal or to downtown. The only other concern was there needs to be drapes over the glass in the doors leading to the balconies. The "midnight sun" is wonderful unless you are trying to sleep. The windows were great but the balcony door blinds don't keep out the long daylight.
The desk clerk when we checked in was wonderful. She was by herself and we were super early and needed to store our luggage. She was very attentive and accommodating. She made excellent recommendations for restaurants and places to see. Every time we saw her she greeted us and asked if we needed help. I can't remember how to spell her name. It was very unusual, something like Lennano. She deserves a customer service award.
Small discrepancy at checkout was handled by a phone call when we got home. I didn't check the statement before we left and we were charged more than our confimed reservation. A phone call when we got home took care of it.
We plan to return next year and just fish and will probably stay here again.
