Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by cfls Better facility than HI in Shanghai, but the air-condition was really poor
Room is clean and bathroom is okay. Breakfast needs to be improved.
The worst thing is the air conditional, which was really smelly, which disappointed me.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Xich1983 Convenient location
I have stayed at this place a few times, mostly for its convenience, since it sits right next to the Shanghai railway station and Shanghai Coach station, and it's a few minutes' walk to the subway.
Free internet is a plus - if your computer doesn't have LAN port, you can borrow a wireless router for free - great convenience for people with only an iPad.
Typical HolidayInn setup - no surprise, and quite cost-effective.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by mafan big room, clean room, comfortable
It was great staying there. big room, nice room, comfortable room.. bed is big but its too soft...=x if could be harder alittle more for all the beds it would be best... =) as for those who are looking for WIFI in the room.. only near toilet area or lobby the signal would be strong else it must depends the level. apparently the levels i tried only near toilets or in the toilet den could be able to get connected. as for the cable-lan, its not those super fast kind but still can do normal surfing.. =) Location not near to any shopping area except spectacles shops and railway station... its easy for you to travel to other cities... overall its value for money lastly breakfast is fine for me and partner.. food are really very chinese style. very little western.. however dont expect too much on it.. simple breakfast that could fill up your stomach =)

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Random1234 Simple hotel with most of the things you need
Have stayed in this hotel for quite some time and have no major issues.
Would like to take this opportunity to recognise an individual (housekeeping) who takes care of 16th floor (I think identified by the name of Ms Wu) - who has exceeded expectations as compared to most of other customer facing staff of the hotel. This person has great smile at all times and she not only makes guests feel welcome but is also attentive to the needs of hotel guests. Very attentive person to requests for certain toiletries, drinking water, etc. She certainly housekeeps the room and maintains cleanliness of the room to a high standard. I think she deserves recognition from hotel management.
In terms of breakfast, some improvement is really needed (from the kitchen side). Boiled eggs are oily in the outside, fried vegetables are extremely oily and sometimes overcooked. Staff seemed to be quite good in terms of cleaning tables to let other guests dine and should also be recognised for their quick response.
Overall a good hotel with basic needs met to Holiday Inn Express standard.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by JFYUL It's raining inside?
They seems to have water problem inside the hotel. On my floor, they had blankets on the flood to collect water from the carpet. I had to change room because the first one smelled moisture, but the girl at the fromt desck wouldn't change it. I had to come back and ask another clerk, he moved me without problem the second time. The new room was just the same. The breakfast was "ok". The proximity of the metro and China Mobile is usefull. People on the street helped me get there. Overall, not the best HIE in Shanghai. Maybe it was just a bad day.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Idivwey Breakfast poor, staff and hotel excellent
The hotel is amazingly clean and the staff are quick to respond to a need in the room. They clean and vacuum the rooms and always leave it looking nice.
Location, it is right near the train station but you don't hear the noise and rooms are quiet,
Metro is a ten minute walk but very easy to walk to.
My complaint, the breakfast is not clean. Please fully wash eggs before cooking, especially in the wake of the bird flu.
Luckily McDonald's is very close, and the Internet is fast.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by HKGguest Almost perfect
The room is spacious, and with free Internet service. My IHG membership enjoyed a free welcome drink (although it is just a can of soda).
If anything missing, would be a refrigerator. As the hotel is not near a convenient store, it is difficult if you want to enjoy a cold drink from the fridge on a hot Shanghai summer evening.
Location wise it isn't near a subway stop, about 10 minute walk.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by EricT the worst experience
I've been a member of IHG for years and stayed at various brands of hotel. To be honest, it's the worst experience I've ever had.
1. no shower gel or soap in bathroom.
2. the house keeping tried to break into room in the morning when I was sleeping.
3. televison had color cast badly, poor TV set.

I had an excellent stay at this hotel, with very friendly, courteous staffs at the reception and hotel services crews.
The room is very clean, comfortable and allow me to have a very good rest .
If local newspaper can be providede to the room, it will be excellent !
The breakfast serving staffs are helpful and the breakfast areas is very clean and nice.
If the variety of of foods need some improvement, as the fried noodle served are hard and tough to eat.
Overall, it is nice home for traveller .

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Mike7219 Great Value
This hotel is in a great location. The staff have good English and seem always willing to help. The breakfast is awful, but go to Starbucks and get over it as the hotel is extremely good value. The rooms could do with a lick of paint as they are showing wear.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by flamewheel Overall, excellent
Ridiculously large room with nice amenities. Excellent breakfast options (though ending at 9:30 in the morning is too early for a night owl like me). Decently speedy internet with pretty good WiFi coverage from my room. Friendly hotel staff, except for one annoyed person who came up to my room because I was dumb and couldn't figure out how to unstop the sink. Convenient location relative to train station and subways.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Shijing Comfortable room and friendly staff
We enjoyed staying at this hotel as it was comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was less than average and in fact much worse than in your property in Hong Kong. The staff did not know that the metro station was only 10 mins walk from the hotel which was surprising.

I have visited Shanghai several times during the past few years, and always seem to return to Holiday Inn Express Shanghai Zhabei. The rooms are well equipped and spacious. The beds are really good. Free internet in all rooms, breakfast always included in price, laundry service and DIY laundry room (buy a token for this from the vending machine in the lobby) available. Cleaning staff do their work splendidly. Really cheap compared to other hotels in Shanghai. There is a lot to like about this hotel!
The breakfast is not anything special. The Chinese food seems to be a bit better, but western food is mostly toast, cornflakes and coffee. The cornflakes were somehow spoiled during my last stay, so then it was only toast and coffee.
The location is good. It's quite close to the city center and just next to Shanghai Railway station. The subway lines 1,3 and 4 are close, but still a good 10-15 minutes walking distance from the hotel. Around the railway station the atmosphere is a little dodgy, but still it felt safe to walk there at all times of day. If you are looking for new eye glasses, the international Eye Glass City (dozens of eye glass shops) is located just 20 meters from the hotel. A small 24 h convenience store and some fast food restaurants are nearby in case you get hungry later in the evening.
It's easy to get a taxi in Shanghai. If you want to be sure to get a proper taxi, ask the hotel to ring one to pick you up. The hotel staff are really very helpful in all situations, and I recommend asking them for advice. Always be sure to have the hotels name written in Chinese and the phone number of the front desk with you. You will need these so that taxi drivers can take you to the hotel.
If you are a light sleeper, it will be a good idea to ask for a room not facing the railways.
