After checking in and going to our room, my husband was returning the luggage cart. A few minutes later our door was opened by another hotel guest who had just checked in. This guest was given this room just a few short minutes after we were. Normally I lock the deadbolt and the other lock on the door, but was expecting my husband to return shortly. The other guest went to the front desk to get another room.
The next morning after breakfast our room keys would not work. We checked at the front desk, and told them what had happened the evening before. We were told that all keys to that room were probably cancelled because of the incident the previous evening. The lady at the desk did not ask for any ID to verify that we belonged in the room before she reissued keys. She apologized for the problem and said that she would add some points to our IHG Reward Club.
After checking the account a few weeks later, no points were added.
I was very disappointed at the staff for being careless. First for giving the same room to two separate guests, second for not checking who belonged in the room before reissuing keys. I do not think the security of the guests are important to them. Finally I am disappointed that they did not do what they said that they would do. We did not ask for the extra points, or any other compensation, we just wanted to let them know what was happening. However when you offer something to a guest, you should follow through.
We love Holiday Inn Express and have never had a problem before. The hotel was clean and the breakfast was wonderful. But, I am not sure that we will stay at this specific hotel again because of the incompetent staff, and security issues.

I'm extremely picky about the hotels I stay. However, this was by far one of the best hotels for cleanliness and comfort. Despite being across from the elevator, it was exceptionally quiet. The staff was cordial; nice variety of breakfast choices; waffles offered until midnight.
There was an overpowering perfume smell in the check in area, but it was clean. The hotel was a little challenging to find due to some construction to the entrance. However, I find these two issues hardly noteworthy in comparison with cleanliness, comfort, and cordial staff.
An overall exceptional stay. I highly recommend the hotel.
