Love the set up of your Queen Loft Room Suite, it's roomy very clean and the bed are comfortable. When we called in for an additional blanket late in the evening, they give it to us in just like 10 minutes. The location is very clean and right in the heart of Solvang. Will definitely go back and stay at this place.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by smokey020813 SMOKEY ENVIRONMENT AND RUDE MANAGEMENT
I made the reservation on the day we booked in for two nights by phone and paid with a cc over the phone.
Upon arriving we were not given the top floor nor the view of the mountains as assured.
We stayed two nights.
The first night was ok but the other building smelled of cigarette smoke, not ours.
The next night in the middle of the night after going to sleep our room smelled totally smokey. By morning everything was saturated with the smell of cigarettes.
Everything we had needed to be washed or dry cleaned.
When we complained they said we should have told them when it happened and we should have left....in the middle of the night.
The desk manager said we had made the reservation online otherwise they would have refunded us: that was not true. I am not sure how the phone call resulted in a cc payment online.
The management was not helpful nor apologetic and when I called them the next day as the daytime manager was there, he was very rude and said to go ahead and deny the charge with the credit card company. That it was not his problem. He would not listen nor compromise.
were given no paperwork ultimately and not emailed any either.

This hotel is located very close to all the wonderful venues Solvang has to offer. The staff was exceptional and the room was very comfortable. I do wish I had brought my own pillow. Even their soft pillow is too firm. The scrambled eggs and bacon were good but wish they had a waffle maker instead of a pancake maker. Nobody used the pancake maker. The Danish pancakes at Paula's Pancakes 3 doors down are to die for.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by SFLA Great hospitality & service
We got stranded at 3am in the middle of Solvang (we were supposed to stay with a friend). All we could see were 'no vacancy' signs - we then spotted the Holiday Inn Express down the street. Blake was incredibly helpful. He gave us a room right away and it was clean & well kept. We are coming back to Solvang again next month and we will definitely stay at the Holiday Inn Express! Oh and the giant patio A PLUS!!!!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Flyguy524 Wonderful Experience
As a platinum rewards member, I've stayed at a lot of Holiday Inn Express hotels and this one was probably the most enjoyable. Solvang is a great town to visit and the hotel is an easy walk to everywhere in the town. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful, the room was comfortable and the breakfast was very good. I intend to visit again.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Wiserlemming Great hospitality on a very busy weekend in Solvang
We arrived at our hotel not sure where to park because the parking lot appeared completely full. We hadn't realized it was Restaurant Week. We were graciously offered the one remaining parking spot....the 15-minute unloading space....to use for the night. We were then guided into the office to check in, and guided over to the elevator to get to our room. The hotel is a sprawling pair of buildings that appears to be built into the side of a hill. Not surprising, since Solvang is, after all, in the mountains.
Our room was obviously an older room that was slowly being modernized. Having said that, it was comfortable, had a very nice television, and plenty of room for us to move around. I was impressed by the layout and the use of available space.
We ordered dinner in, and when it arrived with no utensils, one of the hotel staff brought us a surplus of utensils and extra napkins.
I am very impressed with this hotel, and would gladly recommend it to anyone and everyone. I can't comment about the breakfast, as we didn't eat the complimentary breakfast, opting to get an early start on our day.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by mwhite Phantom vending machines and open electrical panels
It's an older property, probably converted from a Holiday Inn, so it's bound to seem run down and out of date. That being said, upon arrival to the room you feel like you are walking into an oven because the staff turned the heat up all the way. The electrical panels are exposed in the hallways which wouldn't be an issue if they were not UNLOCKED and OPEN giving anyone walking by access to turn off the power to your room at will. Also the vending machine sinage in areas with no vending machines is a bit, i dunno,,, odd. Just a few things to work on.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by 1chuckie great location
I needed two rooms for our group and one needed to be a wheelchair accessible room. We were able to get two rooms next to each other. Rooms are very comfortable. I am not a big fan of the sink outside the bathroom but it worked out well enough. Great to have a mini-fridge and microwave in the room as well. Super location to walk around Solvang shops and restaurants.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by MariaJessica Nice room and beautiful surroundings
The overall impression of the hotel is good. We had a room with a park view, which was probably quieter than one towards the street. The room was tidy, nicely furnished and has a large balcony. The breakfast included is the same offered in all Holiday Inn Express hotels, but it is still fairly good. Solvang is a pretty nice town, there is quite a lot to see. There are a lot of Danish houses, stores and restaurants.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by zbear Peculiar but functional
It seems to be 3 separate buildings joined together on the side of a hill, with 2 parking garages in the basements. We stayed on the first floor. The elevator opens to an outside landing, so we had to walk outside in the cold rainy weather, and then the door to the corridor requires the room key again, which was a bit awkward with luggage on the first trip.
The breakfast room was nice, with the good assortment of food that Holiday Inn Express is known for. There were 3 separate stairs to the same first floor landing (2 off the lobby, and 1 directly to the outside).
Parking might be confusing. The exit is near the first traffic light in town, where traffic on the highway is backed up at peak hours.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by leipzig Would Not Come Again
We come yearly to Solvang with 2 other couples for New Years & stay 2 nites. We made our reservation 6 months in advance & printed out our reservation confirmations for 3 rooms.
About a month before our stay, we called to confirm our reservations & there was some confusion, but we managed (we thought) to straighten it out. We printed out 3 new reservation confirmations for 3 rooms.
About 5 days before we left, a single confirmation was e-mailed to us with no explanation. My husband called to inquire about it, and there ensued a 45 minute long distance phone conversation with this hotel and Holiday Inn, Inc. We were issued 3 new confirmations with different numbers than our previous 3 reservations. We have traveled a great deal for many years and have never had such problems with making simple reservations.
We had a "loft suite," which consisted of the entry doorway to a wide, long dark hall with no lighting. Within this hall on the darkest side, was the closet, with no light. A bit further down on the other side was a bathroom. At the end of the hallway was a small room with couch, a coffee table, tv & a few lamps. Against the wall was a narrow tiny stairway up to a "loft" which contained nothing but a bed, tv, end tables & lamps. No bathroom, no closet. There was, however, a doorway right next to the bed leading out into the main hall of the building, thus ensuring you would hear anybody going up or down the hall. You had to leave the light on in the downstairs "room" as you could not see to go down the tiny stairway in the dark without turning on a light & waking your partner.
Our friends' rooms were basic bedrooms. They had problems with their heat not working and had to call the repairman twice in one room and once in the other room. The noisy heater kept one couple up both nights.
The rooms were fairly inexpensive - otherwise I would avoid this place like the plague.

Staff can use some help on Customer Service. I used Points on the stay and they act like they are doing a favor letting you stay there. The day "help" were the worst and not very friendly.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Mermaid2 Reservations as confirmed not honored on our arrival
We have stayed at the Solvang Holiday Inn Express several times in the last few years. We used to stay here when it was still the Danish Inn.
The last two times we had made reservations and which were confirmed by E-mail were not honored.
Two years ago the King size non smoking room had not been held for us and we were put into a loft type room that required us to climb stairs to go to bed. Not what we had reserved.
In November, 2012, we had reserved two King bed rooms and were told that we could have only one king and one with two queen beds.
Since I brought a copy of the confirmed reservation we were eventually allowed the two king bed rooms.
Because I have no confidence that we would have the type of room we reserved waiting for us, I would probably not try to stay at this Holiday Inn Express again.
Once we were given the rooms we had reserved, our stay was pleasant and we could recommend this as a place to stay with the caveat that the rooms you reserved may not be available.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Richfndz Great Location and Price for Area
The Price and Location of this Property is fair. It was nice to see they did not pick-up the Continental Breakfast at 11AM Sharp as Check-out is 11AM and we were still able to sit and enjoy without having to rush.
Only negative was Parking in the Late Hours. We had to park in street.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by GPNC Tired Property
We stayed at this property several years ago. It was tired then (albeit priced as a better value then) and it's still tired. And, while it's been marginally enhanced, it is in need of more than cosmetic improvements now. The furnishings are of flea market quality, the carpeting was in need of cleaning or replacement, the sliding glass doors were itched with scale(?), which obstructed the "view", the screen door was bent, and the overall quality of towels and linens was not up to what we have experienced in our numerous HI stays elsewhere. The night before, we had stayed at the Holiday Inn in Santa Maria. What a lovely property, and our room was fabulous! We booked with HI in Solvang on short notice in response to a family death and funeral, and learned the hard way that a "valley view" (at least on the second floor of the building where we were) really only was indicative of the side of the building the room was on, because our "view" was into several very dense oak trees. Upon checking in, we attempted to be relocated to another room, but none were available. Our bill was "reluctantly" reduced by $20 per night, but the overall experience was still distasteful. We will not be staying at this property in the future.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by SeattleSteve Great Hotel and great location to walk to everything!
I hate to give a great review because then everyone will read this and want to stay here and it will make getting an open room next time harder! :o)
It was a great room, very comfortable bed, plenty of room, great shower and bathroom space, great amenities, and within walking distance to a great pancake restaurant also. In fact, it was walking distance to the whole cool town of Solvang! Its a great find for a secured comfortable hotel. And the free breakfast was wonderful!
Book your room now! Just leave me my room again when I come down again to wine country!
