Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 some issues that affected our stay
we visited this hotel whilst taking our daughter to peppa pig world, we travelled down the 4 hour trip and checked in at around half ten, the hotel is excellent with very clean modern rooms, loved the fact the beds in the family room were all made up for us and the breakfast was very nice as well however when we booked we were never told that a £50 security deposit would be taken and this was not explained to us when we checked in that evening we were asked to sign a piece of paper which was again never explained to us what we were signing for an assumed it was for the room key we paid for our room and went to bed, we checked our bank account the next day and 63 for the room had left our account plus another 50, if we had not checked our bank we would never have been told this!!! we are still waiting three days later for this money to come back to us after being promised by reception it would be cancelled straight away returning our funds, such a shame as the hotel was really good but just very very poor staff we will not be staying here again because of this and if it was not for seperate funds we would not have been able to go to peppa pig world with our daughter for her birthday..PLEASE SORT THIS OUT FOR OTHER GUESTS!!

Been staying at this hotel for a number of years now on business and still I find the standards very high.
I have stayed at many hotels yet this Holiday Express Hotel still to me as one of the best I've stay. Staff are always very welcoming, decoration is faultless and food always to a high level.
Really nice to see the owners and staff of this hotel still understanding there customers needs.

Spotlessly clean, excellent staff who deal with your stay in an efficient and profesional way and if you are lucky enough to get Louise to check you in at reception your stay starts with a smile to be remembered.

Good hotel for the location, next to cricket ground, and also not too far away from the docks at Southampton so we stayed there before going on a crusie holiday .Nice evening meal and excellent breakfast.will stay again.

we stayed prior to going on a cruise. the hotel was easy to find, short drive to cruise terminal. great hotel with good service, typical breakfast choice and fantastic value. would definitely stay again.

We had a very comfortable and relaxing evening with a lovely meal, followed by a good breakfast the following morning. We stayed here after a day out at Peppa Pig World with our little girl. It was a very easy drive from the theme park and we would definitely stay here again.

Reception staff efficient and friendly. We had a lovely meal in the hotel restaurant. Room was clean and had everything you needed. Breakfast had lots of choices.

From the time i arrived, and spoke to your receptionist, Tara, i knew i should have booked another place to stay at, more a less forced to give my credit card for services that i said i wouldn't require, she said it wouldn't be used if i didn't buy anything, i myself knew i wouldn't, if i did i use cash, for 2 night prior to staying here we stayed at Holiday inn west quay, Southampton, never was i asked for my credit card. Then there was no soap in the shower, had to put our hand to the basin dispenser, at least 5 minutes to get any hot water in the basin in the morning, what a waste of Water, we use mobile phones, only way to get a signal was to wave the phone high up to the window, no free paper.
NO next time i come to Southampton i will use the Holiday inn at west quay, we were treated as a hotel guest should be, with respect. I was offered a morning free paper,

Only stayed one night but comfortable room and good shower. We had the steak for dinner which was cooked as we had requested. The bar range was very limited both for alcoholic and nonalchoholic drinks. Breakfast was good and self service meant we could have as much as we wanted.

OK for room only if you can gain a cheap rate <£50/night.
Breakfast was a joke. Queuing for fat sausages and rubber scrambled egg. No bacon. Tasteless croissants. Horrible coffee from a dirty machine.
Down-market in all respects.
Do read the terms and conditions and guidelines for leaving feedback - almost threatening - I doubt these comments will be visible for long.

We stayed one night and had a great night slleep in a nice clean double room. The breakfast was fine and the staff vety helpful, plenty of parking too. Would stay here again and would recommend for a one or two night stay. Ideal for the cricket at the Ageas Bowl.

I'm a fan of the Holiday Inn Express product and this hotel is one of my favourites.
Staff are great, and this is is one HIE where I can really recommend the choice and quality of the dinner menu.
We will be visiting the area regularly for the foreseeable future and this hotel will always be our first choice.

I have recently been staying at this location quite frequently. I have found the hotel to be a quite & relaxing place in general. A good place to stay after travelling or a days business. Though there are some rooms that are affected by noise from some of the hotels equipment.
I have found the staff to be extremely helpful & efficient in doing there work. if there is a concern or a problem they go out of their way to help. My one minor issue is they do not recognise frequent customers.

This hotel provided one of the worst experiences ever. Nothing complimentary for Platinum members, small rooms and no cell-pone reception. In order to get any signal, guests are required to go out of the building.

Have no complaints and felt very well looked after. As i spent most evenings in the bar (as you do) the two lovely ladies, Elena and Laura, were friendly, smiling and a credit to your hotel (hello girls!) . Should also mention the efficientness of the reception staff and the rest of the bar staff. Breakfast was good and varied so how can anyone complain is beyond me! Thanks to all.

Obstructed access to and from disabled parking spaces, each night of stay, due to vans and cars, parked overnight, alongside the hotel conservatory where there are no marked parking spaces, directly opposite to the disabled parking spaces..
It is off putting, at breakfast, seeing workmen who have been staying overnight at the hotel, come in to breakfast in their dirty work clothes. This is not acceptable; the dirt gets transferred to the chairs that they use and then some unsuspecting hotel guest gets it on them if they use the same seat. The workmen should wear clean attire to breakfast. They can change for work before leaving the hotel.
A varied cooked breakfast each day would be appreciated by guests. Tomatoes, tinned or fresh, fried or poached egg instead of beans and scrambled egg every day.

We stayed overnight at this hotel in order to help move our elderly parents from their home of 48 years into a sheltered housing flat. We were so impressed by the accommodation, accessibility, food quality and members of staff that we booked them into the hotel for two nights later in the week whilst the removals were taking place.
Our parents are in their late 80s, frail and need rollators to mobilise. They had a variety of needs outside the norm but staff rose to the challenge admirably. Moving home at any age can be very traumatic and ensuring that they were kept warm, safe, well-fed and reassured was paramount.
Our family is very grateful for the kindness and support given by the staff members, who ensured that all their needs were met and helped them during this very difficult transition period. special thanks go to the young man from Germany who made my mother-in-law feel particularly welcome.
We usually stay at a four star hotel in Southampton when we visit but were so impressed that we will stay here in future - your scrambled egg is far superior! Many thanks and look forward to our next stay with you.

One of the questions HI always ask is were you recognised as a Priority Club member. Not at this location. The cost for wifi was expensive and this was justified by the unsmiling girl at reception as we are a franchise, no apology just take it or leave it. Food was Ok, certainly no more than that., the guys at the bar taking my order were completely uninterested, indeed gave the impression I was interrupting their conversation, though the waitress was excellent. Will not stay there again.

I need gluten free food as I have Coeliac Disease. While the front of house staff were a bit unsure, the Chef came out to see me and was really helpful with advising me about what I could eat from the dinner menu. He also gave advice on what would be suitable for breakfast for me the next day. Thank you.
I had a comfortable and relaxing stay with my family.

This hotel is nice and clean and well located. The rooms are reasonably sized but the service is poor, especially if you are a priority member. they do not appear to recognise you as a member nor do you receive any of the benefits of being a member. I ama Platinum member and was made to wait 10-15mins when checking in. As a member it should be express checkin. Not at this hotel and this isn't the first time either so i know its not a one off.

Nice hotel, quick check in. Food was nice, but not enough choice for evening meal. Couldn't get a constant wifi connection in my room or anywhere in the public areas, with either 02 or Virgin. Breakfast choice was reasonable, included bacon where most others I've stayed in only have hot sausage and scrambled egg. Kitchen staff were very loud, and could be heard clearly in the breakfast area. Swearing at each other and argiung. Check out was very slow, even though there was only 2 guests in front of me, and 2 members of staff on reception. I told them about the swearing, and a family moving to the other side of the breakfast area, as they had 2 young children. They said they would pass the comment on the the Manager. I think I would choose 1 of the other Southampton hotels on my next visit.

In general i enjoyed my stay at the hotel. However, a big hotel chain like Holiday Inn should not charge guests for WiFi. £10.50 for 24 hours is unacceptable, but when you have work to do you have no choice but to pay for these charges as you need access to the internet.
