Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Don't go here for dinner Having arrived on Friday evening for a conference on Saturday, we were tired and decided to eat in the hotel. We had to go up to the bar as there was no table service, yet the person serving seemed bored and as if he just couldn't be bothered. The foot arrived quite quick, but my pizza was over cooked and so the goats cheese was like cardboards, and my colleagues burger and chips had the poorest quality beef, the chips were limp and the salad was hot and wilted. Not a great experience. May 13, 2014

The staff were very friendly and helpful and made sure we had adjoining rooms to accommodate our children. The breakfast was an added bonus with good quality food. would definitely stay with this hotel chain in the future. Brilliant! May 13, 2014

Massive car park, free car parking, very friendly staff, couldn't find any significant faults. I stay regularly at IHG hotels (have over 105,000 points mainly from Crowne Plaza) and considering the price this has to be one of the best I've stayed at. One small point, an iron/ironing board in the room would have finished it off nicely!. May 12, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Poor information and administration Not informed at desk on check in that 120 pounds would be debited from card used online to reserve. I had offered a different card at reception and used that card at check out too. Despite this the 120 was held and caused a direct debit from my account not to be cleared and for me to be charged by my bank for this. Upon contacting was promised that a fax would be sent to release funds by Iris. It was not. Poor service indeed and this was only worsened when calling at wee leek to be T's accounts only work Mon to Fri. I won't be booking with you again. May 11, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 Comfort is the best We had been taken a cruise ship. The staff and people in the hotel were lovely and it was a great treat to stay at the Holiday Inn Express at Southampton. We had been taken off the cruise ship due to my husband's ill health. We finally got a great room, wonderful food, very helpful staff and have been extremely happy to be back in the UK. The staff were very helpful and kind. We would love to go there again. May 11, 2014

For the first time ever in a hotel the scrambled was perfect, the taste smell and consistency were top restaurant standard. The bacon and sausages were also perfect and I loved the blueberry muffin. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Always the same problems with Holiday Inn's and the Internet! Overall, the stay was very good. Hotel was nice, staff helpful and food excellent. The one "beef" I have, and it's not the first time this has happened at a Holiday Inn is the attention given to business people who need a decent internet service to enable them to work. The free wifi is so slow when more than a few people are using it as to make it a pointless "freebie". Naturally, to get round this you are offered super fast wifi, but that comes at a price tag of £10.50 for 24 hours. This is ridiculous and hard to justify, especially when the Holiday Inn Express at Canterbury, to name just one, charges only £5 for the same superfast wifi! Fast efficient wifi should be offered free to all customers at all Holiday Inn hotels. Also, on a similar subject...the reception on my mobile phone was non-existent at the hotel. Nowhere in the room could i get a signal and nowhere in the lobby area either. Only by going out in the car park could i use my phone. I am with T-Mobile (EE) but i gather it is the same for other providers too. Surely in this day and age it is not beyond the wit of the hotel to ensure that a signal is achievable whatever phone provider you use and wherever you might be in the hotel. May 5, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Gold member Priority Club I recently stayed here for two nights on business and I have been a IHG Priority member for many years and have not experienced the poor service at reception at any other hotels in the IHG as this one. 1. You got my booking wrong by saying my credit card details were incorrect , which I tried to explain thst this card was on my IHG profile and was correct on my profile, but no apology. 2. The room I booked was not available and was told that there were no non smoking rooms left, again a I stated that on my IHG profile, non smoking was selected, eventually I was given a disabled room. It seemed that IHG Priority Club member meant very little. The service at reception was not what I expected or have to come accept. I will not be staying at this hotel again. May 4, 2014

The problem seems to be that the dining area is not able to cope at busy times especially breakfast. Also at peak times there seems to be a lot of children running up and down corridors. May 4, 2014

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by what service having booked and paid for a room for my son his wife and 2 young children under five, on their arrival they were informed they would have pay again as they did not have my debit card. despite my efforts to reason with the hotel management on the phone a new purchase of a room would have to be made the receptionist said if they did not have a current credit card with them they should find a car park and sleep in the car .I cannot express my discussed at this treatment April 28, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Platinum member - Not Happy! Arrived late, checked in was a pleasant experience, was directed to local pub short 15 min walk away for food (my choice). However, pub had stopped serving food. Decided to get takeaway and eat in hotel restaurant area. Arrived back at hotel about 9.45pm, sat down at table to find it was against company policy to eat takeaway food in the restaurant, I was told to eat in my room, I thought the assistant was joking so I asked to speak to the duty manager, however, he also confirmed company policy! Then to top it all, following breakfast (good choice) I wanted to take a hot drink away with me, for my journey to Bournemouth, to find it was against company policy, after asking for a takeaway cup, to take a hot drinks out of the hotel! I have been staying with the IHG group for 13 years and this has to be my most disappointing experience. The staff were pleasant but, the company policy rules taken a little too far. Apart from the convenience of the location, I/we have found the staff to be friendly, helpful and welcoming. The rooms are always clean, the beds comfortable and the breakfast very acceptable. Free car parking and now member wi-fi is a bonus. For the price this is an excellent choice. April 26, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by return visit Having a second trip to area within a short time I had no problem with rebooking at this hotel. On the first visit I was impressed by the quality of the breakfast which easily surpassed the norm offered by a Holiday Inn Express and again on this visit it was again a strong positive aspect. I also participated in taking an evening meal and this too was very good, the selection was a little limited in variety but more than made up for by the quality and taste. The only downside being the bandwidth availability which whilst in the main building is useable but as you move further away from the centre bandwidth falls drastically. April 26, 2014

Great hotel with the added bonus of being next-door to a Virgin Active Healthclub which meant that we could still swim before breakfast every morning. Clean, spacious rooms, and having booked by telephone, we were allocated inter-connecting rooms on the first floor - exactly as requested! Staff were friendly and helpful, the only two very minor points were (i) numerous small children seemed to be allowed by their parents to run around the corridors and breakfast room but then it was the Easter Bank Holiday weekend and therefore full of families with small children going to visit Peppa Pig World so only to be expected!, and (ii) breakfast either meant queing for ages between 9am and 10am or no more croissants if you left it until 10.30am. Overall, good value for money, comfortable and clean rooms, and we will probably stay here again! April 24, 2014

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Can't cope when full - Eat out I have stopped in this hotel a few occasions and found it to be quite convenient and relaxing. However, on this occasion, having been informed at check in that the hotel was full, it was obvious from the evenings service, they just could not cope. I placed my order for food at the bar at 1930 and was told I may have to wait up to 30 mins as they were busy. Okay, at least they informed me. So, rather surprised when my starter arrived some ten minutes later. Then came the wait 20 mins, 30 mins 45 mins, asked where my meal was, "coming very soon sir" was the polite answer. 1 hour, 1 hour 15 - Again asked where my food was, "sorry sir, it will be with you any minute know". I saw many many people ask about their meals. One couple on a table two from mine with two hungry children, gave up after a 90 minute wait and left. Mine eventually came at 1 hour 20 mins after my starter. If I stop at this hotel again, I will ask how busy they are and the decide weather to eat somewhere elst - Very poor service by apologetic and embarrassed staff. April 19, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Probably the worst HI Express I've stayed in. It was just very poor and it could have been so much better. Room was not very clean, bed was uncomfortable, bathroom also left a lot to be desired on the cleanliness front. Would never stay here again, the HI Express up at Whitely is so much better. Breakfast was appalling, the weirdest cheap cereals we have ever come across, nasty cheap bread and egg you could have built houses with it was so hard. The noise was also very bad. Lots of kids running around and screaming at 7.30 in the morning and a wedding party that were having a great time at everyone else's expense. April 18, 2014

The room was clean, comfortable and well equipped. Breakfast was really good quality and although very busy in the restaurant was well replenished. I would like to say that the staff are very nice at this hotel, but in particular would point out Janis as being outstanding. April 18, 2014

Positives; Room location, Staff excellent especially Rachel on the front desk. Breakfast was included and what you expect from a Holiday Inn. Location and ease for the M27 to continue our journey. Reliable Hotel with a great atmosphere and caring staff. Negatives; The room was very warm and with the window near the front of the hotel! it gave us a very disruptive night with taxi's coming and going. No problems with any aspect of my stay, and even a break down with a faulty water pump had the ever efficient Louise sorting my accomodation with no fuss or drama, a great can do attitude from all the team. After a long journey, we received a warm welcome from the receptionist. Our room was well equipped and smelled of clean bedding, which was lovely. Our daughter was very happy with her double sofa bed! We then made our way to the bar for a drink and freshly prepared snack. Breakfast was included, which was a pleasant surprise, and although busy, the food was hot and tasty. Thank you for a wonderful experience. April 14, 2014

The room was great and seemed like they had thought of most little extras. It was clean and tidy and extra pillows were brought on request. While the restaurant was nice, the food was expensive and service behind the bar confusing! We had 3 people taking our order at one point. There was only one vegitarian option of mushrooms but it wasvery sweet. There were no vegitarian options at cooked breakfast. Overall a good stay :) April 11, 2014
