Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Unusable wifi and no mobile network The hotel offers free wifi for guests, but this turned out to be a very weak signal throughout the hotel, which was incapable of supporting either my mobile phone's requirement (which was minimal) or that of my laptop. There was also no network coverage at all for either my work or personal mobile phones, which are on two different networks. The room itself was clean and well presented. However, there was no plug socket located within reach of the mirror in the room, making it difficult to use my own hairdrier, and the one provided was fairly inefficient. I had a few other minor problems with my particular room, of which I was going to leave details on the room questionnaire, but this had already been completed by a previous occupant, including their personal details. The evening menu is limited, and the food was hit and miss - I ordered the same meal as my colleague and there was a considerable difference in quality between the two. The breakfast menu is slightly more varied, but one coffee machine was out of order. There was a limited choice for certain dietary requirements, although I never asked if there was an alternative, so there may have been. The staff were polite and friendly, and the hotel covers basic needs. I would suggest this hotel is suited to someone looking for a place to stay on a short term basis, for reasons other than business. June 23, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by No internet! Everything was going great on my four day stay when the last day the WIFI in the hotel broke down. This has happened to me in other hotels but usually the problem is rectified within a couple of hours. Unfortunately at this Holiday Inn the problem persisted for more than 12 hours. Since I was on a business trip and had to send and receive important documents this was a big inconvenience. I must say that especially the night manager tried to help but none of the solutions she had recommended were viable options. June 22, 2014

Food at the bar was good, but we were not contempt with the very very little amout of pasta on the plate from the children´s menu. June 22, 2014

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Didn't seem usual HI Express standard Check in seemed chaotic, check out had just one person trying to cope. Bed was uncomfortable and breakfast coffee and cooked offering we felt was poor. We requested a ground floor room several weeks before arrival but were given the furthest room possible from the reception. Told management and were offered just a cursory apology. We will probably return to the alternative HI Express next time we stay in Southampton. June 21, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Rooms not cleaned and unsatisfactory food being served When we arrived the hotel looked for nice, checked in quickly and receptionist very pleasant. Entered the room to find maltesers on the floor evidence that the room had not been cleaned. When we went down for food, not much choice for vegeterians so I ordered a pizza £9.50, when the pizza arrived it was a cheap frozen pizza which tasted disguisting. When I spoke to the waiter, he shrugged his shoulders and advised it was fresh, when I challenged the same, he was very rude. Manageress came and advised the pizza was frozen the toppings are fresh!!! If I wanted a poor pizza I would have gone to a take away. She did offer to change the meal however there was very little options and I wasnt convinced by the quality of the same and asked for a refund, I was then told the refund would take 2 days to process!!! REALLY! The then started to come across very condasending and I had to ask her to leave us alone.I was told the refund would go back to the card I paid on, however they refunded it to the card I paid for the hotel with! Definateley wouldnt stay here again! June 20, 2014

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Improve staff attitude please This was our second visit and we were disappointed again. The bar and breakfast staff seem to do the minimum required and even that is a little begrudging. There was a lovely guy on the front desk late at night, we could hear him helping and providing loads of information to late arrivals. The receptionist who greeted us and who checked us out was okay but not warm and friendly. If it could have been met by the "late shift" we would have felt a lot more comfortable and welcomed. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Smelly room Although we have stayed at this hotel many times.we were very disappointed to be given a room directly above the kitchen extractor fan.Consequently the room smelled the whole night. We had to move our clothes and leave them in the car to avoid them being contaminated with the smell. We will look for other accommodation next time in the area June 15, 2014

Better than other Holiday Inns I have stayed at, so exceeded expectations. Breakfast slightly disappointing though probably average for a chain hotel, but OK. Price a little high but I guess that is own to location. Slightly odd though to get a room rate for 2 people which included dinner for 1 person!! June 13, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by End of a great day After an early start from the Midlands and a brilliant day at The National Motor Museum at Beaulieu it was very convenient to drive 30 miles to Holiday Inn Express at Southampton before driving back to the Midlands next day. Simple, fast check in and an excellent room. A long shower followed by a most pleasant meal completed the day. Breakfast was very good and included in the price. It was reassuring that the Hotel offered secure parking for the Car. Overall good value for money and a venue that we could recommend. We will be back next year. June 12, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Better than expected Only stayed the one night,but was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the hotel, was expecting it to be functional as per a "Premier Inn" but thought it was definetly of a far superior standard with friendly staff and a reasonable restaurant. Only down side was that the breakfast a little dissapointing in available items and the self service area is very small for the size of hotel. June 12, 2014

Cleanliness of rooms and public areas excellent. Only thing would have been nice, is a garden area for sitting, drinking and eating if desired and weather permitting. The HI Express is my first choice for an overnight stay everytime, and I would highly recommend this hotel. Food service in the bar was very swift and I have to say the food was great, much better than in many hotels I stay in. Offered a free drink voucher at check-in as I am a Platinum member. Be warned though as the drinks choice is very limited so check what it's valid for before you order! Overall though a great stay and I will be back. June 8, 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great service however rooms small for families This hotel is clean and functional. We were 2 adults 2 children and there was a bed with a sofa bed opened up. This left very little room and you couldn't sit at the desk at all because no room to pull chair out. Having said this, it is an express and you don't spend a lot of time in the room. The staff are very helpful and friendly however the breakfast was very disappointing, not enough veggie options with only beans and toast available. We travelled on a bank holiday and the queues at breakfast were terrible. Staff couldn't cope with the use of cutlery and clearing up. Again I can sympathise with staff because people had no respect for the hotel and food was all over the floor and people were filling plates up and leaving left overs in stacks on floors. The breakfast area is too small for the busy bank holiday period. Overall its good value for money ,clean hotel, you get a good nights sleep and get a basic free breakfast if your veggie and a decent one if your not. I would stay there again for convenience and good accessibility to surrounding attractions and I would recommend the hotel. June 4, 2014

Should be one double bed and two single with some space around them instead of this kind of sofa bed squeezed between window and a bed. I have asked for 2 extra pillows, never get replay. Overall good, breakfast standard, clean. Close to Paultons park. June 3, 2014
