We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Southampton after a visit to Marwell Zoo. The location is excellant as it is easy to get to and despite being near a major road we experienced no road noise. We were given a very warm welcome at reception. Our room was warm, clean and comfortable and stocked with everything we needed. The hotel was quiet throughout the night. As previous reviews have said breakfast time is not a place to relax due to the number of young families who stay. We are a young family but tried to stay out of the way because it was quite a chaotic scene. I do not think this is so much the responsibility of the hotel though, more the parents of the children allowed to run around the restaurant. A reminder from the hotel staff to families that it is not a safe place to run around and to respect other guests probably wouldn't go amiss. Excellant value though, very nice staff and we would stay again.

We had booked a double room, but when we arrived were given a twin. We managed to be moved for the first night to a double room, and then the following night had to be moved to a twin.
Overall the hotel was clean, staff welcoming and the food was ok - although more choice at breakfast would have been nice.

The cruise parking package is a great option as it is only five miles to the parking lot.
If you are offered room 301 ask for a different room, the air conditioning generator could keep you awake if you're a light sleeper.

Nice room but no bsth, beds made for 4 in a family room but only made up for two with cups, glasses etc. We stayed for 2 nights but tea, coffee and even toilet roll not replenished after night 1 Excellent breakfast nice comfortable bar.

This place have obviously never heard of Priority Club What a place. We have been staying here since 2007 but nowadays the staff are so miserable and so unhelpful.. The two females in the back office just sit doing nothing but commenting on guests and shaking their heads when asked anything. What a sad miserable place this is these days

My wife and I stayed at the hotel in preparation for a cruise leaving from Southampton. After a long drive from Scotland, we were greeted by pleasant and friendly staff and allocated our room. The room was spotless and well appointed.
We had dinner later which was served efficently and was of a high standard and reasonable cost.
The only downside was that the bar was not open when we arrived at about 1:30pm.
We would have no hesitation in returning to this hotel.

I have used this holiday inn several times and have always found it satisfactory. If I have needed anything else not provided like extra pillows my requests have always been completed quickly and without fuss.
I use the wheelchair accessible room and find the wet room very good, no worries about falling from a bath. Seat provided too.
My only complaint would be the lack of subtitle provision on the tv.

We were down from Scotland at family wedding staying 3 nights at the Holidayinn Express and a good time was had by all .There was no problems rooms were clean,breakfast was good and the staff friendly .

Although I had booked my 2 double rooms 4 months in advance and specifically asked for adjacent rooms, on arrival I was given one double room on the ground floor and one twin on the top floor!
The breakfast area was grubby looking and in need of cleaning/refurbishing. The place was also full of screaming children so not a very relaxing break.

The hotel is bright and modern and whilst the the rooms are fairly basic they are very clean and comfortable with coffee/tea making facilities. It is a budget hotel and as such was excellent value being cheaper than similar budget chain hotels with the added benefit of having breakfast included. True it was not gourmet standard food but it was more than adequate for our needs.
The staff were friendly and helpful. The location was superb being very easy to access from the M271 but far enough away from the road so there was hardly any noise. Ample car parking.

Clean & tidy hotel with friendly staff, but avoid room 200 as right next to boiler which is noisy. If you are hard of hearing the room is excellent, otherwise best find a quieter room.
Breakfast is simple but well cooked and tasty, if you like bacon you will be disappointed.

On arrival the members of staff we met were very friendly and personable. We had a family room which was very comfortable and a good level of equipment. We had a relaxing stay, grabbed a quick breakfast and were seen promptly when checking out so we could get on our way quickly.
Very happy to stay there again.

Holiday Express is always very good value for money. Basic, clean, comfortable and reasonably priced. We had excellent service from the girls on the front desk,
Only problem are the arrangements for breakfast where there was some chaos due to too little room for the breakfast service. Drinks should be separated from the food.
