Even after requesting a quiet room , i was left in a cold room with ill fitting windows on the side of a motorway , the room heater went off at 4.30 am and i had to get fully dressed to keep warm. This was a most appalling experience , and after highlighting my disappointment when checking out was assured that the General Manger would call me that morning , 10 days later i am still waiting for that call. The food in the evening lacked choice and was only average quality , certainly not value for money , and if you dont mind waiting the service was average as well. In the morning the coffee machine was broken "again" and the quality agian only average. Stay at your peril , unless you like the noise of traffic and sleeping in the cold !

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by hotelcharliek Another less than inspiring stay in this hotel
This is the closest hotel to my work so it is an easy choice, but it's nothing special. The Holiday Inn in the centre of town is outside of my company budget so my choice is made for me.
My room this time faced the motorway with traffic passing by all night. The window would not close properly so the cold wind and the traffic noise was with me all night.
The room heater was pathetic so my noisy, windy, cold room was not very impressive. Not great for a relatively new hotel.
The staff in the morning asked if everything was OK, only to show complete disinterest when I began to tell them about my room.
I don't use the restaurant because of bad experiences in the past.
I spend 50-100 nights away each year so I have to tolerate many things, but this hotel seems to present a different issue with most of my stays.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Jools57 Always good value and lovely staff
We visit this hotel regularly, and will continue to do so, because we get very good value for the budget price. The staff always give a very warm welcome. The rooms, bathrooms and public areas are always clean and, although fairly basic, have everything we need for a short stay. Excellent all round.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by alan345 Interesting double glazed windows !
The hotel was very easy to find and I thought the staff were great. Breakfast wasn’t anything special but was acceptable.
The double glazing however was without doubt the worst double glazed window I’ve ever come across. I have never, never, experienced a draft coming through the frame of a double glazed window; the noise reduction was minimal as was the heat retained in the rooms.
What a shame to be let down by the windows – if I were the hotel I’d seriously consider setting on to get my money back.

I booked 9 rooms for the use of friends who were visiting for my 65th Birthday party.
On the Sunday morning before departing everyone said how pleased they were with the hotel. From the clean airy rooms, to the friendly helpful staff, the praise was unanimous. I am still getting thanked, in every email and letter I receive.
I could not have wished for better help, from a hotel.

The stay was OK based on price but don't expect a good night sleep. The beds are extreemley bouncy so when one person moves your partner wakes up!
This is the second time I've mentioned the beds to staff so it seems they are all the same design.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Tony1962 Management attention to issues needed
On the plus side, the attitude of the staff at the hotel was very good- friendly, welcoming and professional. Also, we had use of a microwave in the breakfast room at all hours to heat milk for our baby.
However... we had booked originally to have a room with 2 beds for parents and 2 young boys, along with a cot for the baby, and to be safe I rang the hotel direct the day before our stay to check on the cot. I was promised that the cot would be in the room. On arrival, not so - the receptionist had to get a cot ready for us, but as she had no note of the requirement did not have clean sheets ready - fortunately we'd taken our own as a precaution.
As we were looking for somewhere to eat, the receptionist directed us to a nearby Beefeater, though it would be useful if the hotel had details of local establishments and phone numbers as we arrived there to find an hour's wait for a table with 3 hungry and tired boys under 6. After a quick search around the area for alternatives we returned to eat at the hotel, though by this time it was really too late for the children, and although our preferred choices on the menu were available, the food at the hotel was actually good.
More significantly, once we'd got the boys ready for bed we discovered that the electric convector heater in the room (the only source of heating) did not work, and on one of the coldest nights of the year we actually had a draught coming from behind it all night long. When I went back to the receptionist I was informed that all the hotels portable heaters had already been distributed from the day before as there were problems with heating in many of the rooms. I was offered a change of room, but having the children already asleep this was impractical. I was also offered additional blankets, which was not ideal as the baby will not sleep with any sheets or blankets over him so we had to trust our body heat to keep temperatures from dropping too low.
My main concern is that there was apparently a known problem with heating throughout and despite the hotel management being aware of this no efforts appeared to have been made to address this, or to provide adequate alternative solutions for the number of rooms affected.

Had a pleasant stay at the hotel. Everything was fine.
Nice hotel which is ideally located for business in Southampton.
I have stayed at the hotel before and found the food dreadful so I went out to eat. Miserable cold weather but it was the best option.
There is a Priority Club members check in but it is never used ?

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 High quality room as always, awful food
You can always rely on the quality of the room and hygiene standards at HI Express hotels. The hotel environment was also nice as expected. The food however was awful, just very, very poor quality and presentation, with limited options, this was not expected at all, based on previous HI Express experiences and was a total disappointment.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Chilli59 Busy Location, not enough staff
On Arrival, late afternoon, the rooms and corridors were still being cleaned.(lots of noise about)
Many door entry cards would not work.(lots of angry people)
Had to wait over an hour, after ordering, for evening meal due to staff shortages.
Two staff on reception and one in the kitchen. All very nice but were unable to keep up with demand.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Rolo2011 Ideal per cruise hotel
We used this hotel for a pre cruise stay. It is ideally located for Southampton cruise terminals, approx 10 minutes away and is easily accessed from major roads into Southampton.
It provides good quality accommodation at a reasonable price, has a varied bar meal menu and a free breakfast.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Andy74 OK, however not the best Holiday Inn
Room was up to the regular standards of Holiday Inn properties but was a little tired in places. Not sure how well the rooms are inspected and maintained as the window did not close properly and therefore the noise level from the motorway was high.
Unsure if room bookings are properly checked as I had reserved a room for 1 person and arrived to find that the sofa bed was unfolded and fully made up - waste of time for the preparation staff and also a waste of clean bedding.

Excellent experience for me and my three children. The bed was so comfortable and staff where really helpful. Managed to sort me out with carry cot and sort out room for all three kids to sleep with me and I had the whole double bed to myself. We still had room to get around the room which is not normally the case.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Getawayer Just what we needed
We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Southampton after a visit to Marwell Zoo. The location is excellant as it is easy to get to and despite being near a major road we experienced no road noise. We were given a very warm welcome at reception. Our room was warm, clean and comfortable and stocked with everything we needed. The hotel was quiet throughout the night. As previous reviews have said breakfast time is not a place to relax due to the number of young families who stay. We are a young family but tried to stay out of the way because it was quite a chaotic scene. I do not think this is so much the responsibility of the hotel though, more the parents of the children allowed to run around the restaurant. A reminder from the hotel staff to families that it is not a safe place to run around and to respect other guests probably wouldn't go amiss. Excellant value though, very nice staff and we would stay again.

We had booked a double room, but when we arrived were given a twin. We managed to be moved for the first night to a double room, and then the following night had to be moved to a twin.
Overall the hotel was clean, staff welcoming and the food was ok - although more choice at breakfast would have been nice.

The cruise parking package is a great option as it is only five miles to the parking lot.
If you are offered room 301 ask for a different room, the air conditioning generator could keep you awake if you're a light sleeper.

This place have obviously never heard of Priority Club What a place. We have been staying here since 2007 but nowadays the staff are so miserable and so unhelpful.. The two females in the back office just sit doing nothing but commenting on guests and shaking their heads when asked anything. What a sad miserable place this is these days

My wife and I stayed at the hotel in preparation for a cruise leaving from Southampton. After a long drive from Scotland, we were greeted by pleasant and friendly staff and allocated our room. The room was spotless and well appointed.
We had dinner later which was served efficently and was of a high standard and reasonable cost.
The only downside was that the bar was not open when we arrived at about 1:30pm.
We would have no hesitation in returning to this hotel.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by caz50 Meets all basic travel needs
I have used this holiday inn several times and have always found it satisfactory. If I have needed anything else not provided like extra pillows my requests have always been completed quickly and without fuss.
I use the wheelchair accessible room and find the wet room very good, no worries about falling from a bath. Seat provided too.
My only complaint would be the lack of subtitle provision on the tv.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 Poor experience
Although I had booked my 2 double rooms 4 months in advance and specifically asked for adjacent rooms, on arrival I was given one double room on the ground floor and one twin on the top floor!
The breakfast area was grubby looking and in need of cleaning/refurbishing. The place was also full of screaming children so not a very relaxing break.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Chrisann Comfortable basic hotel
The hotel is bright and modern and whilst the the rooms are fairly basic they are very clean and comfortable with coffee/tea making facilities. It is a budget hotel and as such was excellent value being cheaper than similar budget chain hotels with the added benefit of having breakfast included. True it was not gourmet standard food but it was more than adequate for our needs.
The staff were friendly and helpful. The location was superb being very easy to access from the M271 but far enough away from the road so there was hardly any noise. Ample car parking.
