Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Probably wouldn't stay again Stayed for a weekend for a family reunion and found the common room for the reception to be very nice. Refrigerator in our room didn't work. Air conditioning went out and contacted the staff. They sent someone to fix and it only stayed on for about 30 minutes afterwards so the room was still 82 degrees. Then a member of my party was asked to check out at 11 to get their room cleaned even though the sign in the lobby clearly said 12. Asked for towels on Sunday prior to checkout and was told that housekeeping would bring them. I asked housekeeping in the hall and they didn't have any, so we left disappointed. One staff member assisted me in getting a document printed at the desk since the business room printer wasn't working. July 2, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Poor Communication Traveled over 12 hrs to be informed that an additional $100 was needed at the time of check in since we were paying in cash. The reservations were made months in advance and I specifically asked both the reservation department and the hotel was anything needed when paying in cash and I was told nothing additional was required. The front desk attendant, Mr. Tika, was rude while trying to explain the situation to him and also letting him know my email confirmation does not specify an additonal charge. Very disappointing customer service! Other than the check in process, my stay was great. After complaining, I was offered a discounted rate towards my next stay which is unfortunate because I will not be returning to Detroit. Unfortunately, I can not redeem the discount at any other location. July 2, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by old fashion hotel business purpose, close to company. but different impression comparing to Holiday Inn in Europe. Room seems quite old and need to open the window for some fresh air because the air conditioning doesn't work very well. Some nasty smell. Won't stay any more. But staff is very friendly and helpful. this is the only thing conform me a bit. June 26, 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by perfect for our needs My family recently came to the Southfield area to tour Lawrence Tech. Campus, we were so close we COULD have walked there. The pool was clean but not stocked with towels but when I asked the front desk for some they gave me a whole pile. The fitness room was perfect. To me the free breakfast in the morning was awesome- it's not just a muffin and can of juice that were offered. I was disappointed that the pancake maker "didn't work" but I have some reservations about that, I tend to believe that maybe it was cleaned and turned off a little early. My husband didn't care for the coffee but there were plenty of other drink options- juices and teas.This location offered free parking for it's guests, the parking lot was well lit and appeared safe. Flowers were in their trays waiting to be planted in the ground to give it a better appearance. I would definitely recommend Holiday Inn Express and would stay there again if I returned to the area. We were impressed from the time we got out of the car to the time we walked into the lobby. This is a very clean and attractive hotel. Checking into the hotel was a pleasant experience. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. Our room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The continental breakfast was wonderful! Many choices of breakfast items and very clean as well. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone staying in this area! June 11, 2014

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Horrible Experience - Never Stay at HI Express Again I had a confirmed reservation number 61292519 at the HI Express Wixom. Upon arrival the hotel was overbooked, and my reservation was moved to the HI Express Southfield, which was 35 minutes away (cost me $70). Upon arrival at the Southfield I was told the Southfield was also overbooked and that I could not get a room. It took an hour of arguing and calling the original hotel to eventually get a room (even though I was originally told it was overbooked and that there were none). I can never stay with IHG again. My only complaint is that the breakfast starts at 6:30 sharp instead of 6:00 am like most business hotels I stay at. Even if the continental items are available sooner, I'd be fine to have anything earlier and be on my way. I'm not sure if the hot breakfast is always the same or just coincidence on my stays. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Horrible The staff had attitudes from the beginning when I checked in. The hotel was so noisy that my husband and I couldn't sleep. I know you can't control guests volume but it was ridiculous. And to top it off you have a church that rents a room and the music was so loud we could hear it in our room and again couldn't sleep, so no I wouldn't recommend your hotel to anyone. Last the breakfast bar closed ten minutes prior then when it was supposed to because of the lazy staff! March 29, 2014

The breakfast is good with good variety, but could use a few more fruit choices and perhaps healthy choices. The gym is adequate, but could use a bench for weights (there are a few, but could use a nicer set). March 9, 2014

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Unfortunate timing We happened to stay during the pool refinishing, which was quite unfortunate as the chemical smell was incredibly strong. It was so overpowering that it made it challenging to sit in the breakfast area. Our room was nice, however the bed and pillows were far too soft. The bathroom was well kept and best of all the shower drained really, really well which often doesn't happen in hotels. The shower also had good water pressure and the water was nice and hot. The breakfast was pretty standard and they had hot coffee and tea throughout the day. January 15, 2014
