So after a 10 hour drive from Va we arrive earlier than check-in and was able to check-in at 11am vs 3pm which we were relieved. When we entered the hotel I thought it looked really nice in the lobby. When we got to our room I was really disappointed just appeared dirty probably because the furnture was really old and outdated. The floors needed a good steam cleaning. Once we got in and got everything settle and cleaned up to our liking everything was okay for the most part. The area was nice and close to many locations that we were going to visit like the zoo. I did have one issue which was the lady at the front desk I had asked her to advised the cleaning staff that we wanted our room clean and I had a feeling she didn't when we came back after a long day at the zoo and visiting family our room was still dirty no clean towels etc..guess she was to busy on her cell phone. However, the night clerk at the desk was very happy and offered to come fix the room but we declined and just asked for some clean stuff in which she did. She was really nice and helpful and about her job. Breakfast was okay and had the people were nice and accomodating. Also it's this place right across from the hotel called something Joe chicken fingers or something like that OMG they have the best food expecially the chicken fingers it's always hot as they cook it in front of you highly recommended.

I stayed in the Holiday Inn Express for the second time during a comedy festival. We had a late checkin for 2 queen beds suite and had called ahead of time to ensure we got the 2 queen beds even if we were going to be late. The guy who took the call said that it would be fine and we wouldn't have to call in to confirm or leave a deposit. However, once we got there, we were given a King Suite because they had given all the 2 Queen suites out.
They were able to get us a 2 Queen suite room the next day after staying the night in the King Suite but it took some customer service work to do that. once the gentleman at the counter realized the situation, he worked hard to get us a queen suite cleaned and ready for our use. That was appreciated.
Breakfast ends a little early for most people's taste on the weekend.

I have avoided this hotel on recent trips but booked it for this trip after hearing that they had improved. They have improved since my last stay in 2012 but still have a ways to go. Staff was freindly and it appears that they want to improve image but I am not sure that they know the target. After 4 days, I moved to a better hotel in the area at a lower cost.

The suite was very nice , we were able to make ourselves at home. The only complaints we had was the sheets would stay on the bed and the exercise room had air condition. It felt almost like a sauna.

This was my first stay at this property. Everything went well. Staff was helpful. Room was quiet. I would stay at this property again when visiting the area.

This is supposed to be a smoke free facility. There was someone smoking on my floor several times during the course of my 4 day stay. Also, I took the stairs all the time and there was food and trash in the stairwell. The same trash as well as new, all 4 days. The maid staff actually put the spread on the bed the wrong direction once and all days and adjusted the temperature in my room down( into the low 60s). I tried calling the front desk a couple of times and no one answered.
over all this was not the experience I usually receive at Holiday inn.

For the most part this hotel is a good one. However if you do plan on staying here thru the weekend, DO NOT get a room on the first floor by the laudry room. It's not the laundry machines that are noisy, its the church group that has there services on Sunday evenings in one of the meeting rooms. It gets very loud do to the loudspeaker they use. I spent 5 weeks in this hotel and the first three I was on the third floor which was very quiet. I had to switch rooms do to a faulty air conditioner. I could have asked for a different room but I did not want to switch rooms a second time. While there are a few food locations close by, there are no national restaurants close by and the one that is close(.5 mile away) I would never go back to again.

Our Family checked in on Friday July 19, 2013. As per agreement ballroom was to be available for welcome event.
Ballroom was dirty and event delayed in order for staff to clean.
Our suite had a dirty, rusted dishwasher, without forks, dishes
nor soap liquid for dishes or liquid for dishwasher. In the dining area, equipment for pancakes was broken, coffee containers were empty after early guest, no refills.
No bedding was provided for sofa bed, First night elevator broke. the hotel was hosting 3 reunions with only one elevator and that stopped working. My aunt 95 years old was located on the 3rd floor. This kind of service is not acceptable, several reunion guest had tubs that would not drain, Jacuzzi tubs that were broken. Callers asking for guest were told they were not registered due to poor check-in services of front desk. This was not the representation we wanted for our guest visiting from
throughout the U.S. Our experience as a family was negative and embarrassing for us and the city of Southfield.

The entrance lobby was dirty. The elevator was dirty. Although the rooms are spacious, the fan motors that are used to heat and cool are so noisy they keep you up. I change rooms thinking it was just that room and the same thing. The second room I had the furniture was very dirty. In both rooms the work desk was too small for a laptop and work files.
Additionally this hotel has some nice finishes but the lighting is horrible!! Rooms and hallways especially. Some maintenance man is buying 5000K lamps that are very uncomfortable and wash out all the warm finishes used in this property.
This hotel is not business traveler friendly. I will be in this area again soon and will not stay here.

Overall I was impressed with the courtesy and friendliness of the staff that I encountered on my stays. As an example: The morning kithchen staff was welcoming the clients as they entered the dining area for breakfast.
The hotel is very convienent for access to the highway and 20 minutes to downtown Detroit.
I stayed 6 nights on two occasions. The rooms that I stayed in were clean when I arrived and the staff kept them clean durning my stay. I will be going back for business and have already scheduled my next stay at this location

I had to switch rooms initially because I was put right by all the laundry and cleaning rooms and it was very noisy. Also, the floor was all wet by the refrigerator and I don't think it was working. We were moved on the other side of the building and it was very nice and quiet. The only problem with the new room is the bedroom TV didn't work, but I told the front desk as we went out for dinner and it was fixed by the time we returned. The stay was wonderful, I slept all night very soundly after using the pool and hot tub which was very nice. In the morning I used the exercise room and all equipment worked well, except the TV didn't get the cable channels in.

This was the most awful Holiday Inn Express experience I have ever had. I have stayed at many locations over the last 5 years. First off, the initial room I checked into smelled like marijuana. They did change rooms for me, but it shouldn't have been like this in the first place. Second, there was used soap and a curly hair in my shower. They clearly don't clean their showers or just have very lazy employees. I later learned that this is a reflection of their management. Third, there was 3 or 4 occasions where I requested further explanations on something and was told that the manager was going to get back to me and didn't. I requested again and was told he was going to get back to me. the only bright side was the points accommodation. This will be the last time I stay at this location. Unfortunately, the location was most convenient for where my customers are located. This location can use a change in all managers. ALL HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS LOCATION COULD USE A CHANGE IN THE BREAKFAST OPTIONS.

My three requirements for being away from home at a seminar. Was able to relax and study in the evening, room service was flawless, and the breakfaast, as usual, excellent. Return to Southfield would result in immediate booking odf this hotel again. Well done!

Upon checking in, I asked to extend my stay to 2 nights. Receptionist said no problem, appeared to enter something into the computer, and all was in order.
At 8 PM on the second night of my stay, I came back from dinner and key didn't work. I went to the front desk and was told, "We are oversold so you're out of luck. Here's your stuff." They then wheeled my belongings to me from behind the counter.
1. No effort was made to alert me to this problem prior to my discovering it at 8 PM on the second night.
2. No effort was made to find me other accommodations in the area.
3. I contacted the national Holiday Inn folks the next day. They stated that I'd be hearing from the local management "within 48 hours." I am still waiting to hear from them 96 hours later.
