It's clean. It's comfortable. And the staff is friendly. Oh, the sunrise views are awesome as well. If you're looking for a good place to stay when you visit the Straits, this is it.
You're close to everything. The ferries to Mackinac Island are within walking distance. The casino is 3 miles away. Mackinac City is just across the bridge
If you're visiting the Mackinac area do yourself a favor and check this place out.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by vacationontheIsland great staff. Noisy at times. Room small. Breakfast was not what I have experienced at other HI's.
For the price, room was small. Yes, a view of the lake, but, a small view. Had to keep drapes closed as the proximity of other rooms could see right into our room. So much for the lake view. Breakfast was not what I have experienced at other Holiday Inn's. A bit noisy. Had a young person stomping on our heads much of the nite.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by RyanLaura Surprisingly Dissatisfying
We read the reviews and decided The Holiday Inn Express- St. Ignace sounded to be one of the better hotels in the area. Unfortunately our stay at this hotel was less than expected. We entered the room, tried turning on the lights, however we were unable to due to the main light of the room and the lamp next to the bed due to having burnt bulbs. We decided to brush that off and checked out our "lakeview." We ended up on the side of the hotel with a limited view of the lake and the doorwall was extremely hard to lock and unlock. We opened the curtains of the window to bring in sunlight and to my surprise there were bugs inside around the window area. Nevertheless, the beds were hard and pillows needed to be replaced. Lots of people check- in late as well and the noise factor is a problem. Luckily we were only at the hotel to sleep. Woke up early to pack up and get our breakfast at 6 am. We were unable to eat the complimentary breakfast due to lack of seating for hotel guests. Overall, the stay was highly dissatisfying to our surprise.

Don't ever write reviews but ... consistently HI Express's have been very satisfying and this one in particular; perhaps commensurate with the location on the Mackinaw Straits. Well, I've stayed at this location for several years and, year after year consistently the Staff at this facility is outstandingly proficient and friendly from housekeeping to the front desk. HI Express Corporate, you're going to want to benchmark this one.

The hotel staff, from the front desk to the cleaning people, is friendly and accessible. All requests are handled promptly and with a smile. Our room had a great view of the beach, Lake Huron, and Mackinac Island. Many people were having the complimentary breakfast, which had a variety of choices. It was very crowded so we went next door to Java Joe's with its huge assortment of pancakes and other breakfast items; great service and good food.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by jnl57 Great view and incredable service from Eric .
The view of the lake and the island was wonderful. Sitting on our private porch and just relaxing was fantastic. The service we got from Eric at check-in and the whole stay was outstanding. He went above and beyond to make our stay a very pleasant one. He is an outstanding example of great customer service.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Joyfultraveler Superior Facility
During our weeklong visit to Michigan, we stayed at 3 HI Express hotels. This was by far the best of the 3. The facility appears brand new, but I was informed that it is 15+ years old with a remodel a few years ago. The staff are to be commended for their efforts of keeping the place in such good condition.

This hotel is conveniently located in St. Ignace and staff were incredibly helpful and kind. We requested a crib at the last minute, and the front desk staff carried it to our room. Rooms were quiet and nice. Great view of the lake and a balcony. Continental breakfast was nothing special, but having the option to grab some fruit, yogurt and coffee was nice. Overall a very pleasant experience and we would stay again.

I booked this hotel 2 weeks in advance, changed our plans one day because, wanted the room we always get when we stay at holiday inn King spa room, the change was made so we could get a lake view. when we got there, was told we have been upgraded from a king no spa no view to 2 queens and a view, I had a copy of my conformation showing we already had a better room than the supposed upgrade, with a balcony, beds were uncomfortable to the point that they were just about a cheap roadside motel bed. the ground level room had a bad door so very hard to open and a bad patio door even harder to open.. This is the first time I stayed at a booked room that they took my payment out a day after i booked it, this has never happened before either. usually I get there and they take my credit card and run it at that time. also for being an upgrade funny how it was cheaper than the room I wanted. Breakfast was good as usual! Not happy!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Brian933 Late arriving neighbors
Guests in the room next to us arrived after 11pm. They had a child that I'd estimate was 5 years old. They were all making noise past 1am. My wife had been managing to sleep through it so I didn't call the front desk, but at about 12:45 when they woke her up I finally called the front desk. I didn't really get a sense that did anything though since shortly after the father let the door slam a couple times as he left and came back. I find staff partly responsible to 1) at that late hour of check-in to either book them into a comparable room in a less occupied part of the hotel (if possible), 2) over that 2 hour period to at least have made a lap past the rooms to listen for things like this, 3) have responded to my call to the front desk in a way that was effective in quieting the late guests. I'd still stay at this location in the future, I just don't want a hotel to rely on guests bringing their own ear plugs.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by sldavis56 Nice View and friendly helpful staff
Upon our arrival Jessica, the receptionist at the desk, was very welcoming and helpful. We asked her about the local restaurants and she made a few suggestions based on what we where looking for. Our room was located on the ground floor with a door opening onto a common area that was just yards from Lake Huron. A beautiful view and the sounds of the water to relax us. We would stay at this Holiday Express again when visiting St Ignace.

We stay at many HI Express' while traveling. We won't recommend this one. The hot water pressure was so low it took a long time to shower. Pressure was fine in the sink but had been regulated for hot water in the shower. Plenty of cold at shower head, just not hot. We were there for three days, asked to have it fixed but no change. The breakfast offerings were often low, due I think, to the prep room being some distance away from eating area and not handy for the hostess to check. And poor St. Ignace - we had never been to this area before and only discovered Mackinaw City our last day. Mackinaw City is charming and offers lot of shopping and eating options, while St. Ignace offers very little. Sorry we chose this HI Express...By the way - mattress needs to be replaced - broken down, offering no support.

Our stay was exactly as we hoped it would be. The staff was more than friendly and there was a lot of detail in the cleaning operations. The amenities were a definite plus after a long day of shopping and touring. We would recomend this hotel and will stay here again when next we travel to this location.

Nice hotel for the price. We had a waterfront view suite with a king bed. Suite was spacious, bed was very comfortable. The view from the balcony was great with beautiful sunrises in the morning over Lake Huron with Mackinac Island in the foreground. St. Ignace is a small town, so even though the hotel is not right downtown, the boat docks, shops, and boardwalk are only a minute away. Plenty of parking and the staff was very accomodating and helpful. The breakfast buffet in the morning was very good. Another great feature was the ability to print our boarding passes on the computer station available in the lobby, with plenty of paper in the printer. We had a great stay.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by observer48240 did not thrill us
We stay in primarily Holiday Inn Express when we travel and this hotel was not at the top of my list. I could get picky but will just hit a few spots. 1- did not enjoy 1/2 the bathroom being inside the main room. Put the sink back into the "bathroom". A family of 4 including 2 teen age girls is not much privacy. Will never stay at a H.I.Express in this configuration again! 2-Breakfast area too small. You an tell the beautiful lobby was turned into a breakfast area when they became popular. That lobby was never intended for that purpose! 3- I counted 8 plugs in the room total! With all the lamps and hair dryer and alarm clock plugged in there were 3 outlets left; one at the sink and 2 buried behind the dresser which could not be moved. This is another sign of an old hotel behind in the times! Our other room had a decorative lamp at each side of the bed which was cute for pictures but one lamp was no where near an outlet and could not be plugged in. Too funny! Will go somewhere else next time we come to St Ignace!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Jennyclapperroyer Great, but ...
A nice factility in the chain, but if you want to make it outstanding in the chain:
1. Make sure the housekeeping staff does not come around to the room until the person has checked out!
2. Make sure the desk person doesn't respond to the complaint, "It was after 9 wasn't it?"
3. If check out is not until 11 (or whatever time it was) I do not expect housekeeping staff to knock on the door at 9:30 a.m! I was not staying over, I do not think you were full the night before AND even if you were, the front desk is to notify the housekeeping staff when the room is empty. Otherwise, I have the room -- and the privacy -- until 11:00a.m. Good thing I was already awake or I would have really been mad. This should not be happening in a hotel as classy as yours!
4. Many other hotels in the chain, offer Priority Club Members, especially Platinum members, a bottle of water, and maybe some snacks, as a Thank You. I know its little, but I do have a choice of where I stay and little things count.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 Repeat Customer keeps coming back
I am a customer that has stayed at this location many times. There were some great changes on our most recent stay. The addition of refrigerators in the room is a BIG BIG plus. The days of lugging a cooler for the extended stay are now gone. My only complaint is with the pool. Property description states a heated indoor pool. On 2 separate stays the pool was far from heated. Not a huge deal breaker, but would like to take the kids swimming while staying at the hotel... Outside of that things were fabulous. It is nice to see the familiar faces at the desk. There seems to be more care for the customers when your able to keep quality help.

The staff was very helpful, polite and professional. I requested a lobby level room as my wife needs assistance to walk and the hotel came through for us. Had a beautiful view from our balcony of Lake Huron and Mackinaw Island. A great place to stay. The morning breakfast was really good. I will stay here again on my next visits to Upper Michigan.
