As many if not all guests at this hotel I needed to be close to the airport due to my travel arrangements. The staff were very helpful and polite. The holiday inn express tends to have a bit more of a premier inn feel about it by the cheapness of some of the decor. Bathrooms only have a shower and the rooms are more basic.
My room was comfortable though and there were clear instructions regarding the use of any equipment, breakfast times and shuttle bus times. It was a pity that the shuttle bus cost £3 each way when most shuttle services I have used have been free. This could be a problem if you have just arrived in the country at 12 am and have neither euros or sterling. My bathroom needed a little TLC, the grouting and the corking were getting shabby but I expect that its a busy hotel and I didn't sleep in there. I slept in a very comfy double bed and found the noise levels to be generally good.
I would stay there again for the convenience, good breakfast and very good staff.

It was freezing! I did not sleep at all because of the cold even though I kept all my clothes on plus a scarf.
Everything is self-service. Tiring if you arrive late. The wake up call is self service but there is no confirmation that the request has been logged. Not great if you have an early flight and want assurance that it will work. Breakfast...dismal.
I will never use any of these hotels again..
The reception staff were the only positive factor.

We stayed at this hotel as we were going away for 9 days and wished to park the car at the airport. Considering the cost of using the long or mid stay car park alone, our one-night stay was very good value, as it included the cost of parking the car.
We found the room to be comfortable, and it was very nice to be offered a smoking room. Why do other hotels not offer this?
The staff were helpful and polite.
All in all, we would stay at Holiday Inn Express Stansted again.

My 7 year old Godaughter & I spent 2 nights here 20/21st December as we had a very early flight on the21st to see Father Christmas in Lapland or the day!! The Hotel actually exceeded my expectations...comfortable king-size bed,nice sized room,usual coffee/tea/drinking chocolate in room,lovely clean shower...infact perfect for our requirements!!!!
We had an early evening meal on 20th,buffet breakfast on 21st & cooked breakfast on 22nd...very good!!
ALL the staff wemet were very courteous,kind & helpful..making our trip to Lapland even more special!! Thanks to ALL concerned!!

Travel extensively for both work and travel all over the world and have used Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express frequently and i am a priority club member..
This visit to Stansted was a 1 night layover for an early flight to visit family over the holiday period.
Check in was its usual efficient and high standard, we were met by friendly and very helpful staff.
On arrival in our room it was like transported back in time to the 80's. First thing we noticed is that the TV was at least 15 years old, and had only 5 channels, now this may sound a little churlish but it was not even a flat screen and after a 5 hour drive it would have been nice to chill infront of a decent tv with the normal freeview / sky channels.
There was no bath only a shower cubicle which is fine, but i hate to say this, it was really grubby, grubby enough to consider calling down to reception to get it cleaned, but it was late and knackered after a long journey we decided to to the British thing and put up with it as we were leaving at 4 the next morning. Carpets stained, only towels for 1 person despite the room booked for 2 etc etc....
Went for something to eat in restaurant, very very limited choice of evening meal;... 3 things?? and very expensive again for small portions.
Drinks increadibly expensive, i understand captive audience etc but i think nearly £9 for a pint of regular larger and a small lemonade is excessesive.
standards are slipping..... but as i mentioned not the rates.
I dont think we will use this particular Holiday Inn again, especially as there is a similar hotel 200 yards away that offer better rates, more modern rooms.

our stay here can be descrbed as 'fair value for money' I say this as it is a well located hotel - for Stansted airport, and the shuttle service is great. however the breakfast, (full or continental) is very basic.
We stayed two nights (one week apart) so had two diff rooms. both were clean and comfortable enough, except for the main bed - there is a need to look at the quality of the matteres. did not get a comforatble sleep on either night.
Also cant understand why the bed is on roller wheels that dont lock into place??? this meant that when sitting up in bed, against the headboard, the bed would 'roll away' from the wall. Very annoying.
The reception staff were friendly and check-in was smooth and like mentioned due to the fact we got a good rate due to long in advance booking, this was a value for money stay for us.

We were waiting to fly ou the next day and prefered to stay close by and use H.I. Express.
The air/heat did not work and the room was not up to normal standards. The staff was not very understanding or helpful.
The rest of the hotel was okay.
I would stay again, but would be more demanding of the staff.

Nice hotel on the outside but no wifi in the bedroom only ethernet ! Can get wifi downstairs in lounge but a bit of pain if you settled in your room.

Arrived with my wife after a flight at about 2AM to be met by a receptionist who really didnt want to be there. Room pokey and bed lumpy. Next morning breakfast was an insult. Odd bits of food randomly brought out but no crockery or cutlery, people eating off napkins with their fingers and drinking tea (Black no milk!!) out of glasses as no cups.!!
Contacted Customer Care by email when we got home received a standard reply thanking me for my comments!!! They didnt grasp that it was a complaint!!!!!!
I stay in budget type hotels at least once a week but certainly wont be rushing to a HI Express again

This was my first time staying alone in a hotel since my husband died and I can honestly say although only staying one night that I would recommend this hotel. I received a warm welcome , my room was spotless and I had a good night's sleep. I found the shuttle bus service very helpful to and from the airport.

This is a one night hotel so what you need is to have a good rest... but in those extremely soft beds what you do is to ruin your back for the next day.

oh my, where to start:
- 3P/5€ ripoff to actually get from the airport to the hotel, there's basically no way to walk there. I'd include the bus ticket into the room price!
- service upon arrival was poor, just gave me the key without giving me any information about breakfast times etc.
- stained carpet and chair in the room, rest looked quite clean
- I still don't get why every hostel in the world has free wifi in the room and some hotels still don't. I suppose they're stuck in the 90s.
bottom line: look for some other place nearby the airport (personally I'll check out some places in Takely next time I have to spend a night around stansted), you'll have to get a bus there anyway.

35 minutes to check in ... Lack of interest or urgency from the staff. Confusion and lack of customer service. Obviously a new member if staff who was insufficiently trained or competent to deal with the check in. Lack of apology for the delay or the confusion caused by the booking, very disappointing for a regular Priority Club Member.

Very close to the airport with shuttle service. Breakfast available from 4. Only toast and cornflakes but something to full you up until the airport. All in all very good value for money if you want to stay in short distance to the airport.

I stayed on business on my way to Germany so location was ideal. Receptionist told me out loud my room number when I checked in, a lone female. Other hotels usually just show me my number written down rather than announce it to everyone in ear shot. Room comfortable but chilly the heating took a little while to kick in and the double sofa bed was set out so I put the seat back into position to give myself space and saw a large stain on the sofa seat. The remote control for the TV looked very grubby too. I ate in the restaurant but as a lone diner I felt a bit on show as the Reception area opens into the dining area so anyone walking into to premises can see ladies dining on their own. Also I had to go to the bar to place my food order and risk losing my table as I didn't want to leave my bag unattended. The "free" continental breakfast was poor. If I wanted to make toast I would've had to leave my table. I would have preferred a croissant or Danish. The cost of my room was very reasonable which I was happy to pay and reflected the quality of the hotel. I'm glad I didn't pay more.

Have used this hotel many times having to stay overnight in Stansted before onward trip to Italy. Have never had any problems with this hotel.
Staff always courteous and helpful, food fine for the price. Room, clean and always comfortable. Excellent value for money and I will certainly continue to use this handy facility.

I wouldn't stay again as many more hotels around the area are as competitive & comfortable but display warmth & care towards their customers!

Hotel is located well, the rooms are good and clean and the bed was OK.
The minibus from the terminal to the hotel is way too expensive.
The largest disadvantage is the out of date internet policy. Wifi is only available in the lobby. In the rooms, you need a cable to make a connection, and internet is paid (and not cheap). In 2012, a business hotel at an airport should have free and good wifi connections in all rooms.

Room great extra pillows ready and waiting, staff very helpful. Flight was very early and a picnic breakfast would be a good idea when you have too leave at 4am. Coffee and a pastry would have been very welcome maybe something you could do in the future but will use again.

The facilities were very good given the low booking price. A good experience in general, would definitely recommend.
I had booked a smoking room and the smell on the smoking section as well as the room hall was very very intense. Even a smoker can notice!

Easy to get to and from Stansted airport late at night with helpful driver. Very comfortable, clean and fresh room and bathroom. Staff seemed to enjoy being there and helped speed up check-in and check-out. I've had better buffet breakfasts but overall it was brilliant value for money. Thanks very much.

Booked 3 rooms for myself and 2 colleagues. Upon arrival they tried to check myself and 1 colleague into the same room. I obviously queried this and was told that I had only booked 1 room for 3 people in a very ignorant manner. Showed them my reservation confirmation that clearly stated 3 rooms for 3 people. I had even named the individual guests. Seeing this the receptionist grunted and gave my colleague another room. I pointed out that I wanted to double check that they had the other person arriving later having his own room. After 10 mins of tapping on computer I was told yes it was sorted. Surprise surprise my other colleague arrived at midnight. I only found this out because he was trying to get in my room. They had checked him into same room also. Another trip to reception and another showing of confirmtation. Receptionist didn't have a clue what she was doing and it took 20mins to sort out. Lucky they had a room.
Service in restaurant - L (girl behind bar) behind the bar is one of the most ignorant, lack of people skills person I have ever had the displeasure of being served by. Yes by all means carry on chatting with colleagues about the weekend whilst half a dozen people are waiting at the bar.
