Room good. Stay comfortable. Heating a bit noisy and difficult to regulate.
Breakfast could do with bacon on offer.
Generally happy and will stay again.
Convenient quick link to airport.
Much more good than not good.

I stayed at this hotel as a loyal, 10yr+ IHG Rewards Club member as I had an early flight to catch the next morning from Stansted Airport. I know that Holiday Inn Express hotels are generally 'no-frills' but I have come to look forward to their friendly welcome, decent bar service and little extras like free wifi and a genuine thank you for my loyalty.
On this occasion the hotel was a disappointment, down to the following points:
1) Hotel/airport bus shuttle: the bus is not free for hotel guests and costs £3. The buses advertise a timetable but do not run to this and drivers can't accept credit cards - a surprising lack of convenience considering the international nature of the hotel's guests.
2) It seems that most of the hotel guests reach it by the shuttle bus but as there are only two check-in desks, a large queue forms each time a bus arrives. My check-in experience took over 13 minutes, unacceptable considering the number of rooms at this hotel. It was not clear why the staff was so unprepared for the volume of customers.
3) There was no recognition for IHG Rewards Club members. The member of staff at check-in said, "You're a Reward member. Do you want points or a free drink?" This was an insulting introduction to the hotel.
4) I haven't stayed in an IHG hotel for a long time that did not offer free wifi, not even to Platinum members. This hotel has 'Free Wifi' posters everywhere but this is highly misleading - it is free only for the first 1 hour of use and then you have to pay. A tip - there's a McDonalds opposite the hotel with free wifi and even the airport itself has a better deal.
This is not the only hotel for Stansted airport. Although I rarely stay in any chain other than IHG, next time I have to use this airport I'll be using their competitor.

The staff and service were courteous and efficient, consistent with other IHG hotels that I use regularly. The room was clean and in good condition; no complaints.
The problem with this hotel is noise. I went to bed at about 10 pm, as had to get up at 5 am for an early flight the next day. Impossible to get to sleep before midnight due to excessive noise in the corridor and adjacent rooms. Also, woken before 5 am by noise again; banging doors and voices.
I'm not an especially light sleeper and rarely am I troubled by noise in hotels. Seems to be an issue with this particular hotel. Better soundproofing required, it seems.
