Bathroom was nasty. Told the staff they did nothing. Too late to do anything else about it. Sealed the bathroom off and slept. Will have to shower tomorrow, thanks.

I ended up at the HIE Staten Island because of work. The location was convenient to the area I was working in.
The staff Josie, Nazib, and the Matts at the front desk were extremely helpful, whether it be suggestions for where to eat, laundry services, or entertainment.
The housekeeping and maintenance staff were great. Kudos to Tina, Jaimie, Lorenzo and Jerry.
The only shortcoming of note (to me anyway,) was breakfast. Being from Texas, I really enjoy having biscuits and gravy in the morning. Unfortunately, this HIE did not have that on the breakfast bar. Everything else was fine, and Steve does a fine job at keeping everything fresh and clean.
If you visit here, be sure to say hi to the staff for me.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by hbertodatto Worst Stay Yet
I joined priority club because I enjoy their brands and the convenience all over the U.S. I have to say that this stay was by far my worst one yet..... We arrived late maybe around 11pm and we greeted and thanked to be a Priority Club Platinum member. The front desk agent pointed us in the direction of our room, which was 4 steps from the front desk and the lobby on the first floor. You can see the room while checking in. I noticed on the key jacket, that our original room had been crossed off and the new one on the first floor had been given. I know my stay was on points, but I had requested a high floor to avoid situations like this. I think this was originally granted, but someone had changed it. It was late and I decided to try and make the best of it. We were settling in and all we could hear was noise from the front desk and lobby. It was echoing directly in our room..... My girlfriend proceeded to take a shower and much to her surprise the water did not drain. The water was over her ankles and looked more like a bath, then a shower. I walked to the front desk and asked if there were ANY other rooms available and he said that there was not. I asked if one would be available tomorrow and he said check in the morning. I went back to the room and decided to go to bed. We got in the bed and there were some stains on the sheets. I did not tell my girlfriend for fear that she would make me go and find another hotel. It grossed me out. It looked like blood, but I can not be for sure. In the morning I promptly went to the desk first thing in the morning and asked to be moved. The agent was AWESOME and said no problem and that he would call when it was ready. He called around 12 or 1 and said the room was ready. We were in the city and returned around 3:30pm. We went to our room and the keys did not work. So we went to the front desk and he issued new keys. They did not work. The battery was dead on the lock and we waited about 15 minutes for it to be repaired so we could get in and get our belongings. We changed rooms and the rest of the stay was good. The shower drained, the sheets were clean, and we could not hear any noise from the front desk or lobby. I don't like to write things like this... I was in the hotel business for 8 years and I know what one of these surveys could do to your scores. I would hope that you would use this as a training tool for the future. I know that I will make a trip to Staten Island at least once a year, but I will stay anywhere but at this hotel..... It is sad and I hope that because of this I don't cancel my priority club membership over it.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Scott56 Pleasant hotel ,Odd location
A recently built hotel in a very odd location.
The hotel is 30 -40 minutes drive from the Staten island ferry.
A shuttle service to and from the ferry is advertised but only operates every 2 hours between 8 am and 10 pm. The limited shuttle service makes it difficuly to spend an evening in Manhattan, as txis back from the ferry are rare and cost 25 dollars,
The hotel offers no bar , lounge or restaurant faciities, although there is a gas station and Wendys a short walk away .
Rooms are spotlessly clean and well maintained. Staff are friendly and helpful.
Breakfast room in basement offers freshh pancakes from a machine. Bagels were stale on two days of stay

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by AdmssnCnslr Hotel is in a random place, but affordable, and great staff!
The staff was great, especially the breakfast staff. There is an older gentleman that works the breakfast shift and he is an amazing guy, great at his job, always happy, and very friendly! The other breakfast staff and general staff were great too.
Rooms weren't dirty but I have felt more comfortable in hotels before. Also easy access to some local food places right around the corner.

We live in Staten Island and this hotel became our home for 9 days after hurricane Sandy. Our house has been left without power and gas.
The whole staff was incredibly great to us; any of our requests were taken care of right away and made our stay as comfortable as possible.
Room was very clean, internet service worked without interruptions; TV channels are the whole package for any taste and interest.
Our special thanks to Nazib at front desk, who always treated us with respect and with full attention to every oue need. In few words - he is just the perfect customer service representative!
Many-many thanks to wonderful Stephen, who works in the breakfast area. He gives his personal attention to each guest and was doing his best for everyone to feel warmth of the second home. No words can express our gratitude to him and we think, that employee like him should be noted and awarded.
Now we are back home, but our hearts will keep only good memory about our stay.
I would like to recommend this hotel to all guests of our great New York. It is very conveniently located in the middle of Staten Island (10 minutes from Newark airport). You can use hotel shuttle to get to the ferry and in 20 minutes you will be in Manhattan. You will be saving big bucks, believe me!

We enjoyed our stay on Staten Island and the staff were all great. We stayed two nights here on the front end of our trip and one night on the back end before departing the area. Everyone at the front desk was great and very helpful. The maid was outstanding and took care of our special needs. Stephen in the cellar breakfast room was outstanding and went out of his way to make sure we had a great breakfast experience. All three mornings he was very helpful and did an excellent job.
We highly recommend this Holiday Inn Express when traveling around or near the New Your City area.

I met Josie several months ago (front desk person) and I have seen her several times since then at the HI Express. She is pleasant and always greets me with a smile (infact, she even remembers my name from the previous visits). Love her.
We are especially pleased with the continental breakfast. Everyone loves it and I tip my hat off to Steve and Maria as they do an exceptional job at keeping all of the breakfast offerings filled. I always look forward to my stays at the HI Express.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Dansail Good hotel in an excellent, strategic location
The staff are friendly, the rooms are clean and comfortable, the beds are excellent, the internet is great. I go to this location whenever I have to do work in The City, but don't want to deal with the miserable parking in The City. This hotel has a full compliment of parking spaces and walking access to a gym nearby.
Getting to a variety of restaurants can be a bit of a hassle, as there doesn't seem to be much nearby, but this can be overlooked if you're only there for business travel.
