I was checked in in a flash, and the hotel staff were the best.

The bad construction structure makes the hotel very noisy. I had requested the top floor as usual in order to get less noise but I did not get it. I could not sleep half of the night

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by dt56 Comfortable hotel, good value
We have stayed here four times over the past few years. The beds are comfortable, there is a nice attempt to give the rooms a modern and urban feel and the staff is very pleasant and efficient. It's a great hotel for kids and families with lots of wet, young children in the halls, so I wouldn't recommend it as a romantic getaway.

All of the staff were very friendly and courteous during my stay. The location was very near the highway which was great because I was there for a work trip and needed close access to my meeting locations. The room was nice and clean and well maintained, but the ceiling in the bathroom had been recently crack filled and still needed to be sanded and painted again. It did not affect my visit at all though, it was just something I noticed.
My only real complaint would be with the high speed internet. I was not able to connect at all wirelessly, and when plugged in I was able to do basic interneting, but was not able to log into my online work space, nor was I able to Skype with my family.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Heddy559 Great Place to Stay!
This was our first stay at the Holiday Inn Stellarton.
We had to check in rather early and it was no problem at all. The room was clean and comfortable. Liked the fact that it had a fridge, microwave and coffee maker. The hot breakfast that was included, was great!
We were a little disappointed to find out after we had checked out that we would have been eligible for a bereavement rate since we were there for my mother in laws funeral. Our niece stayed at the same hotel and happened to mention the funeral at the front desk and immediately got the discount. This is not an advertised discount so, therefore, did not know to mention our reasons for being in Stellarton.
But the hotel, room and staff were all great.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Bluenoser321 Pricey - considering where you are and what you are getting
Have stayed here numerous times when travelling to and from Cape Breton, to the best of my knowledge it is the newest Hotel/Motel north of the Halifax Airport when enroute to CB.
As others have said this is a pretty typical newer HIE however I have had more issues with recent stays than in the previous 2 years, not sure if management has changed?
Negatives - Even the CAA rate seems pretty steep to me for rural NS e.g. as much as the 2 newer Hotels by the Halifax airport, but after another New Glasgow Hotel once before that reeked of cigarette smoke in the room and halls I keep coming back to HIE.
My most recent stay was in room 327 and if there's someone above you in 427 you will definitely hear them if you are a light sleeper. There are a fair number of contract workers that stay at this hotel and most of them are up quite early so unless you want to get up at 5:00AM with them, even on a Saturday morning, you might want to bring earplugs just in case your room is beside or below one of theirs. I'm not complaining about these guests or the hours they have to work, just the hotels sound-proofing.
This trip I also had to stuff a towel under the door when a group were in the hall around midnight, they were just talking normally and saying goodnight but the gap under the door (see picture attached with key under the door# is enough that you can certainly hear anyone in the hall - they need to install some kind of trim on the bottom of the door. I don't recall having this issue with other rooms in the past.
The staff seem nice enough however when I mentioned the noise issues when checking out there was no offer to compensate me in any way. Not that I asked for anything but as an example the manager at a similar hotel chain in NYC put enough points in my loyalty program account to cover a 1 night stay just because their internet was down for 2 hours, I had not asked for anything, she just did it.
2 items made me question how well my room might have been cleaned 1) there was a half empty bottle of water in the fridge so obviously it wasn't checked, and 2) the plastic cutlery package by the coffee machine had been opened and partly used.
Lastly I would say that the breakfast buffet can be hit and miss, and this time the scrambled eggs #tasted like powdered) and sausage were a huge miss - ugh, I think I've had better quality food from a hospital vending machine.
Positives - good location, comfortable beds, various rooms types for single travelers or families, the building has never been smoked in, decent little gym and a good size pool with slide for the kids if travelling with family. Again I don't think there are any other hotels in the north-east part of the province that offer all of these things combined, closest comparable I think might be Truro.

We found the staff very helpful and pleasant. The only thing we didn't like was the traffic noise as we were on the side near the highway.
