Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Another flawless Trip. AGE : 24+22 Reason For Trip : Alton Towers Visit Additional Information : Potential need to change date due to weather. I have been coming to the HI Express in Stoke for many years now for various trips to Alton Towers with family. This was my 4th visit to this hotel and my 1st visit driving with just a partner. Room warm and comfortable as normal. My only complaint would be that there were only beans, sausage and tomato for the cooked breakfast whereas i prefer a full fry up. The Harvester restaurant next door is fairly priced and has a nice restaurant/bar environment. Staff very friendly, all presented themselves to us by name and were friendly at all times. We were there during a period of VERY heavy snow but this did not affect the stay at all. Realistically it is only 25 minutes drive to/From Alton Towers as well . What i will add is that due to the weather at the time, Alton Towers was closed up until the Sunday prior to our arrival on monday. I did query wether or not our pre-paid rate would be refunded/moved if we'd have had to cancel and was advised that moving it would have been free of charge and no problem at all to do. Would have given 10/10 but it has to be 9/10 due to the lack of hot breakfast items. April 2, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by fast check in and comfortable ground floor room card was ready at check in room was just the right temperature. March 28, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by right next door to Britannia Stadium! This was a treat for my husband's birthday-two nights in a lovely hotel and a fantastic view of Stoke City's stadium. As a life long Stoke fan my husband was thrilled to bits. Stoke City's performance didn't quite meet up to expectations but we still had a great time. The hotel was lovely - very comfortable rooms, excellent shower and bathroom facilities and plenty of storage room. The bar and breakfast staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. Checking in was fast and efficient. The only down side was no bacon at breakfast! More of a cooked breakfast would have been nice. Also we could have done with another hook on the back of a door. We had to hang coats in the bath room. On the plus side there was a dual purpose door that closed the whole bathroom off but also closed the toilet room off if someone was in the shower. I was impressed by that. March 23, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Another brilliant stay As expected we had another great stay at a Holiday Inn March 17, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable visit and good value Overall a good visit, Clean, comfortable and friendly staff the only downside was no fault of the hotel, only parents who do not stop their children running up and down corridors late at night. March 15, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent value for money hotel This hotel was excellent value for money. It was spotlessly clean and all the staff we encountered during our stay were helpful and friendly. March 1, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Poor Argumentative check in staff. Shabby room, basic tv. Thin duvet, very cold at night. Dirty tables at breakfast, hot food cold and dry. Stay regularly at Holiday Inn,this is one of the worst. February 24, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good service, terrible beds Lovely hotel, staff and room but beds dreadful. So uncomfortable -bouncy and cheap, whoever buys the bedding bought a job lot from Poundland I think! We've stayed at other Holiday Inn Expresses and their beds are the same. Also, the duvets are thin and poor. I recommend bringing a blanket with you for the extra weight/warmth - I don't like sleeping with the air conditioning/heater. If HIE changed their mattresses, I would give this 5 stars. February 14, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good staff ruined by poor facilities The staff were great and friendly, however the television was old and poor reception, movie channels did not work. Choice of Scotch Whisky in bar poor, no Malts February 4, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not the best Very cramped and cold room. Heater only blew out cold air at night and had to be switched off. Not much space between bed and toilet door. February 3, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good stay but rates are dubious. I recently stopped at the Holiday Inn Express Stoke. The experience generally was excellent, the staff were very helpful and accommodating and the room was adequate for our needs. However I booked the room over 21 days in advance as is recommneded to get at least 20% off. I found this promotion to be a little misleading, as in January,if the hotel is under occupied they reduce the rates. So by booking 21 days in advance I ended up paying more than many of the guests staying there!! So my advice If you intend to visit in January don't bother booking in advance you lose out!! Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 Lovely room , great comfortable service. We had a lovely relaxing time. Our rooms were available at 12.30 instead of the 15.00 checkin time. Room was relaxing and comfy with a lovely shower en suite and comfy bed. Bar staff friendly and helpful. January 6, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Friendly and competent staff make the stay pleasurable I have stayed many times at this hotel and it is the best in the this range of hotels. The staff are very friendly and it's like having a second home. Rooms are getting a bit dated. Pet hates are the spray taps in the bathroom which soak you. Also the television and programmes really need to be updated. I cant remember the last time I was in a hotel other than this one where the television is so old and reception so poor. Air conditioning units in winter seem to blow cold air even though the temperature settings are high. You have to leave the room to allow it to warm up which means you have to insert a spare card into the main isolator . Please put more sugar and sweeteners in the room. I know you can get more, but there is never sufficient even for the first two cup of tea. Otherwise the rooms are very clean and comfortable January 4, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Worst breakfast ever in a hotel The breakfast was cold and over cooked, very little choice. The heating in room was difficult to control either too hot or too cold. TV blaring away in lounge nobody watching but the staff. January 2, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent friendly staff. Had a good stay over Christmas. Room and bathroom spotless clean. Comfy bed. Only negative....room was quite cold. Would happily stay again. January 2, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good value for money just for one night Took my two children to Alton Towers and came across this Hotel as being fairly close to the resort without the riduculous Resort price. The room was very clean, reception desk very friendly and with both children staying for free, it was excellent value for money! Breakfast time however was rather chaotic! Very basic choice of hot food, sausages, scrambled eggs and baked beans - surely it wouldn't be too much to add bacon to the selection? There were also cereals, toast and pastries however some of these things that my children wanted, eg: muffins, had run out and there appeared to be no staff in sight to check/replenish the stock? There appeared to be far too many people trying to have breakfast than there was space for therefore we were wandering around for some time with our trays before we could get a table and then had to clear the table ourselves. My advice would be to arrive for breakfast as early as possible! The other disappointment was that their free wi-fi was down therefore the kids were not happy as they were looking forward to playing games etc on their devices that they had brought with them. The room was a great price however for an overnight stay and only about 20 minutes from the resort therefore would probably use again however may look for others in the area that although slightly more expensive, may be a little more organised. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by lovely clean hotel and friendly staff Stayed at this hotel over the october half term for one night following a visit to alton towers. Received a warm welcome from the friendly staff on reception on arrival and couldn't have asked for more from our stay here. Room was spotlessly clean and breakfast in the morning was great though understandably busy due to the half-term crowds. A very enjoyable stay and would definitely go back to this hotel if in the area again. Could also recommend the neighbouring Harvester Restaurant where we enjoyed a lovely evening meal with good service to match. November 5, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Cosy and Comfortable Our family room was clean, modern, warm and comfortable and great value. It really was a family room with the double sofa bed beautifully made up to the same standard as the double bed. I know which hotel chain we will now be choosing in future. November 4, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable and good service We stayed here for 1 night as we were going to Alton Towers. The staff were fantastic and the hotel offered all we needed for a short stay. The breakfast I can not comment on as we gave up after queuing for 35 minutes and went up the road to mcdonalds. The hotel needs to look at his as we stayed here due to cost and breakfast being included. There is not enough staff on at breakfast time, not enough tables to cater for the guests so I feel the hotel let us down in this area. November 4, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Warm friendly welcome and clean accomodation Another excellent Holiday Inn hotel which gave superb value for money. Well located by the Britannia Stadium with spotlessly clean rooms and public areas. The eat as much as you like breakfast was perfect before our day out at Alton Towers. The only negative was the pull out bed which was extremely lumpy and uncomfortable, but other than that brilliant. November 2, 2012
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 Ideal for Alton Towers/Britannia Stadium Rooms are what I been used to in most of these budget hotels. Cooked breakfast was okay. Harvester next door ideal for a meal and drink. Big car park and ideal distance if you wanted to visit Alton Towers - about 20 minute drive. Right next door to the Britannia Stadium, so if your team is playing Stoke City then it is walking distance. I would be worried about getting into the car park on match days though if non residents were using the car park. Although it is ample, I think it would fill up quickly. November 1, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great staff This is a lovely hotel, with all you would expect from a Holiday Inn Express. The thing that makes is stand out if the lovely staff - they can't do enough to help you! The rooms are modern, clean and comfortable. All you need to lay your head down for the night. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not a good nights sleep! The room we were alocated was basic but clean, however the bed was very soft I could feel every spring in the matress, not condusive to a good nights sleep. Also our room was situated above the main entrance to the hotel and so noise from guests returning in the early hours also contributed to a poor nights sleep. Breakfast was good and staff were friendly, overall not a bad stay. October 24, 2012
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Convenient and simple, The hotel is a simple, convenient choice. A little out of town and limited choice of restaurants within walking distance, but a short taxi widens the choice. Internet service provision is terrible and expensive which is very dissappointing (especially in the current world of wireless). Only free in the lobby, and slow if there are multiple users! Dont try and stream a video or download from i-tunes.... Stay on the car park side or it will be noisy in the room from the dual carriageway! October 17, 2012
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable room My main concern and perhaps I was naive but I did not expect the bunfight at breakfast. I thought that the staff struggled at breakfast to cope with the sheer volume of people arriving at around 9am. There is no doubt we would use this hotel again but would go down the road for breakfast. October 15, 2012
