Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Comfort Surprised how nice everything was, we received the type of room we asked for (handicapped), breakfast was not a cold continental type offered by other "Big Chain" competitors, rather a good hot eggs, sausage, toast or biscuit, creamed beef, in other words all the trimmings. Rooms very clean and LARGE!! Worth the money but for us seniors a bit pricy...however we will stay ther again in the future. Jim & Bettye August 29, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wonderful experience! I went to Austin to help my son get ready for his wedding. The week went quickly too quick and the managment was so accomedating.(I need spell check.) I added on to the list of rooms, I took away names. I asked for extras and they were always kind and willing to help in anyway. The bed was great, hot water all the time, and the ac worked for all 8 100 + degree days. I will return to Austin and I plan to stay there everytime. August 16, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Problems with Air Conditioner and Manager I spent two nights at this HI Hotel. I have frequented it on many occasions since I have family close by this location and live in Dallas. Of the two nights I stayed at the hotel, my air conditioner started out working the first night, but during the night it began to fail. By morning it was not even cooling. After breakfast I told the desk staff about my problem. I was told that maintenance would be sent to my room. When I returned, the maintenance man stated that it had been fixed. I went out for a few hours and when I returned, it was no longer working. I told front desk staff who told me to move to another room. The morning of checkout, I asked if any compensation could be given to my nephew who rented the room for me, I was told to speak to the manager. On my way to Dallas, I called the Manager. During my conversation with him he asked a series of questions: Q:Was the air working when you arrived? Answer: Yes Q:How did you know it was not working? Answer: The room got warmer. Q:What did you do then? Answer: I kept lowering the thermostat to see if it would cool down. Q: Did you lower it more than two degrees at a time? Answer: I do not recall. I was half asleep. Statement by Manager:If you lowered the thermostat more than 2 degrees, you froze the unit. Did you lower the thermostat more than 2 degrees? Answer: So now it's my fault my air conditioner did not work? Are you accusing me of breaking the air conditioner? He said, if you lowered the temperature more than two degrees at a time, the unit will no longer work. I asked what kind of manager are you? I then asked what happened to satisfying a dissatisfied customer? I asked if he typically accuses the customer of creating a problem? He started to back peddle then when I told him that and said he did not blame me even though he clearly did. When I asked for compensation for my nephew, he told me he could credit him $20! Then he questioned the rate that my nephew paid and wanted to know how he got that rate. He then told me the rate was already $30 lower than it should have been and said $20 plus the $30 now made the compensation $50! (I later found out my nephew got the rate on line and it was guaranteed on line.) I could not believe this man! It just continued to get from bad to worse! He told me he was going to follow up with his staff to see how my nephew got this rate. If you stay here and have a problem like a broken air conditioner or any thing else, the manager may blame you! It is too bad, because everyone else was very helpful. Warning, stay at your own risk. I will look for another place to stay and only stay here as a last resort! It is too bad because I have stayed here dozens of times before! August 9, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by A few things... First, when we got to our room, there was a desk lamp outside our door, not sure why it was left there. Second, I ran the tub water and it scalded my hands, I could not get it to run cool, even my husband tried. I called the front desk several times but no one answered. Shortly after, we left to go out and I brought the lamp down to the front desk and stood there with it while waiting for a minute or two for the employee to get off the phone. She told the person to hold, and I apologized and asked if she needed to finish the phone call, she said, "no, it was just her boyfriend". I put the lamp on the desk and said that I'd tried several times to call from our room. She mentioned something about the phone getting transferred to somewhere in the back... Anyways, I told her about the hot water problem and she said maintenance was gone for the day but that we could move rooms. We decided to wait until after we got back from dinner to move if needed. The water was better when we got back. Third, the next morning, at breakfast, I opened the little fridge to get an egg and there was a long dark hair stuck under one of the milks and hanging down into the hard boiled eggs. I tried to tell the woman tending to the buffet but she was busy in the back, so I told the employee at the front desk, and he said he'd take care of it. After he spoke with her, the buffet lady came out and grabbed the eggs, looked at them and walked into the back. I looked in the fridge again and the hair was still there...I found her to tell her it was still there and she came back out, opened the fridge, reached in, grabbed the hair and flung it on the floor as if she was mad, and didn't say a word to me. Minutes later, she walked back out with the tray of eggs and put them back in the fridge. I was thoroughly grossed out at that point and couldn't eat. I also noticed her rudely cutting off other elderly customers as they were getting their breakfasts. She may need a little more customer service training... And lastly, my husband travels a lot and is a "platinum" IHG rewards club member and he said did not get treated as he usually does upon arrival. August 2, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by room had bad musty odor When we checked out , I told the person at the desk that there were three things that needed to be taken care of, the first one was a simple fix, the light over the mirror had a burnt out bulb, the second was that the room had a bad musty smell in it , the third was that the tub would fill up with water when you took a shower. He typed something in his computer, I don't know if these problems were taken care of. August 2, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Convenient location, friendly staff Stayed 3 nights with my wife and our 2 little kids. The staff was friendly with the manager greeting us and interacting with the kids. This made us feel comfortable and welcome to be staying with the little ones. The location was convenient. Close to the highway, only 10 minutes from downtown. We did a lot of sightseeing on the western side of Austin and this hotel location cut out 20 to 30 minutes of drive time. We loved the free breakfast. Nice selection, re-filled often, great for the kids. Also, nice touch of having fresh baked cookies in the afternoon. July 26, 2013

If you are new to Austin as we were trying to get to the motel from 290 can be confusing. We plan to come back in a couple of years and spend more time. If not in an RV we will stay here. The condition of the room was excellent, the service staff was courteous and prompt in responding to requests and the reception desk personnel were very gracious and knowledgeable. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by overpriced, service not up to par I stay at this hotel because it is only a mile from my out-of-town work location. But it is the poorest choice of Holiday Inn Express hotels that I have experienced. Even though older and less up-to-date than most I have stayed in recently, it is about $30 per night more expensive. Posted outdoor swimming pool hours are 9 AM to 10 PM. Children were screaming/shrieking at 7 AM this morning outside my window in the pool area. The breakfast eggs are artificial. Room 111's toilet does not stop running, the deadbolt does not work on the room door and one of the lamp's electrical receptacle doesn't function, i.e. for plugging in a cellphone recharger. Last night and also on one other occasion I was not given a Priority Club Member welcome gift like usual. June 8, 2013

I arrived ahead of normal check-in time and asked if it would be possible to check-in early. Both times, the answer was yes. The rooms are spacious, the amenities terrific, the breakfast very good, the bed comfortable and the staff congenial. I travel to Austin frequently and this has become my new favorite hotel. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by not up to usual Holiday Inn Express expectations The bed was uncomfortable, the pillows were lumpy, it sounded like a truck driving through the room when the air conditioner turned on, so we had to turn it off at night which made the room hot and stuffy. We were quite disappointed, especially with the price we were paying, and it's right on a major highway. Staff and breakfast were nice, but we would not stay there again. May 24, 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Beware of the road noise - 24/7 The location of this hotel was the only reason for staying at this hotel - there is very little accommodation in the area. We stayed at the hotel twice, both times in even numbered rooms. The hotel is an L shape, If wishing for a quieter room the best option would likely be odd numbered rooms X03 - X15 (X - floor number - which are on the backside of the L running parallel to the many roads in front of the hotel), or odd numbered rooms X29 - X43 (which are on the inside of the L running at 90 degrees to the many roads). For our second stay at the hotel we where in room 312, facing the at least 3 roads running directly outside the hotel. Despite being double glazed even with special earplugs the traffic noise was relentless 24/7 (it does abate a bit at night). This was probably the nosiest hotel room I have stayed in since India. That said no interconnecting room doors, and rarely heard the guests in the room next door, probably as could only hear traffic. The hotel is currently undergoing renovations (not that we saw any sign of this for the 6 days we were at the hotel) the single greatest thing that could be done to improve this hotel is to install secondary glazing to the even numbered rooms. The even numbered rooms also have flood lights facing at them at night time, but the curtains are fairly effective in this regard. The rooms have very poor lighting at night - the rooms reassemble living in a cave at night, bathroom lighting is great - desk lighting pathetic (but looks cool!). Despite being tall the desk chair was unable to be adjusted to a good working height in either of the two rooms we stayed in. There is a spread out mall about 10 minutes walk from the hotel, but otherwise a car is needed to go anywhere from this location - something that seems common in all but the CBD of Austin. The breakfast room was very busy at times with not a huge amount of space to sit in. The breakfast selection was average, but did include a small selection of hot food. Wireless internet worked well. Staff were friendly and yummy cookies in a jar at the front desk. The cleaning staff seemed to offer erratic service, towels sometimes replaced, sometimes taken and not replaced. April 20, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Can't recommend at this time Possibly after their renovations are complete might be able to recommend, however, we were put in a room where renovations were not complete. Staff was fine despite billing error, was easily corrected so no complaints on that. However, having a room with rolls of flexible baseboard, makeshift wood cabinets, and overall feel of disarray was not what I would consider pleasant experience. Room was comparitively pricey as well, but suppose for the Austin market was roughly average. Small issue but so far only Holiday Inn property that has not recognized Priority Club membership and status. April 19, 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Air quality in the room needs improvement I have stayed for 2 weeks within a period of 3 months. I was satisfied with the overall quality of the service, especially the front desk staff are super friendly and knowledgeable. Breakfast is too boring, lack of options (never changed...) Most importantly, the air quality in the room is bad. I feel smothered. I know for safety reason, the window are shut off but the air is supposed to be free flowing, the room is like a cell in a prison. Also, the floor is dirty (my white socks became black on the bottom, I was shocked to find that). Please make a change. Because of this, I have to try other hotel. Bye, Holiday Inn Sunset Valley. The Staff is always friendly, makes me feel welcome and is willing to do whatever it takes to improve my experience of staying here.
