Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by VirtualLight - Steve A nights stay in Swindon
I booked late on Sunday August 24 for a stay that night using my reward points. It was simple and the hotel was great, we had a great room and the staff were helpful.
Car parking was not good, there is no parking at the hotel, there is just up the road but it is £6 for 24 hours, but on a Sunday and the following day a bank holiday it seemed steep.
Breakfast was fine except not enough staff to keep tables clear or food and implements stocked.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Bert6722 Dimly lit room and noisy night
Double glazing did not deflect noise from passing traffic outside - still quite loud. Insufficient lighting in the room - far too dim. Hotel unable to cope when faced with a large number of diners. Bar prices are absolutely ridiculous.

Holiday Inn Express is a great place to stay in Swindon. Most of the staff are very friendly and supportive. On the whole they are great except for some strict policies and rigidness in slight amendments to Check-in dates and cancellation charges.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Nick H. Poor night's sleep and awful breakfast
I've stayed in Holiday Inns in the past and been very happy, so I thought the budget Express chain would be better than its competitors too. However, I wasn't impressed by the Swindon version, even though it was clean and the staff were helpful.
The first problem is finding reception. You enter on the ground floor, and it seems reception is two floors up on level 1. When you come out of the lift, there are no directions. I eventually found reception in the cafe. And by nosing around I also eventually found a sign near the lift, completely obscured by floor to ceiling marketing for the IHG rewards card.
The second problem is the noise at night. There's a very loud nightclub close by and the noise kept me awake until 4 or 5 in the morning.
The third problem is breakfast. Hot options seemed to be limited to cheap and nasty sausages, unpleasant, greyish dried out scrambled egg (powdered?) and baked beans. Not even bacon. I can't remember having a worse hotel breakfast.
I have no idea whether other Holiday Inn Express hotels are any better, but I have no wish to find out. And next time I'm in Swindon, I'll definitely be staying elsewhere.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by ZAC1408 Comfortable bed & fair service
On arrival I found the reception staff not very helpful. I arrived early & was told that the room was not available - Fair answer. But reception could have asked if I wanted to leave my luggage behind recption, so that I didn't have to carry it around Swindon!
I think that the lighting in the 'en suite' area is far from bright enough, I found it extremely difficult saving with such a low light level.

This is a surprisingly nice hotel, I was expecting less as from the outside it did not look that great. We had a disabled room and there was plenty of space for a wheelchair. The only downside was the beds are not too comfortable.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by C and B Ideal Location in Decent Accommodation
We stayed here for 5 nights in June, 8 in August and have just booked another 5 for September. Why?
PROS: Friendly staff who make a genuine effort to ensure a pleasant stay. Everywhere feels fresh and clean. Excellent parking close by for a very reasonable charge. Tea/coffee/ice always available. Good size lounge/bar.
Central for a variety of very good - and not so good - eating places; also for shopping. Relatively short and easy drive to nearby countryside.
CONS: Hopefully the mattresses will soon meet the quality of those at Premier Inn. They are bearable but feel rather worn.
TIP: Pack some hangers in your case if two of you are staying more than a couple of nights as there are only the standard 5 or so available. (This is not a criticism of the Hotel as it applies to most places).

Room is too hot, Television not working and room door failed to open 4 times.
The staff communicator was left in our room, it was making noise during the night.
No compensation from the hotel.

Reception staff excellent.
Our only complaint was the dish of water to put used tea spoons in at breakfast. A dry dish is all that is needed.

very uncomfortable bed (lumpy springs)
Got woken up at 4am when the night club next door kicked out.
Compared to all the hotels in the group we have stayed at, it was not the best value we have had for the price paid.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Hurricane12 Good value for city centre short stay
The hotel is not easy to find by car, so having sat-nav was useful. Car parking was at the nearby rail station. Reception is not at ground level so you need to use the lift to the lobby area (L). Receptionist was very friendly, welcoming and efficient, and our room was clean and well presented. Bathroom was clean, though small with shower but no bath. We slept very well in comfortable beds. Breakfast was basic, though as expected for Holiday Inn Express. Hot food was limited to sausage, scrambled egg and baked beans. All breakfast items were regularly checked and topped up as required. The fruit juice was not very nice and seemed to be made from over sweet concentrate. Check out was as efficient as check in. High praise for the receptionist's friendly helpful attitude. Overall the hotel was good value if you need an overnight stay in Swindon.

The hotel is in a great location being only a short walk from the town centre. All members of staff were present and friendly and would do all they could to help. My room was clean, had everything I needed including a hair dryer, a tv and the luxury of a sofa! The choices on the evening meal was good and the free breakfast was amazing! There was one night where I could hear some noises coming from a near side bar but nothing too bad. The highlight for me was the free wifi! Would defiantly stay here again! :)

I had a very relaxed stay in the Holday Inn at Swindon town centre, the manager on the afternoon shift had time to stop and chat, we had some good conversations, reception/bar staff, the two young ladies I met also had time for chats and when I needed directions where very helpful, any question I had they always had time for, and an answer. The staff I met where always happy, polite and out going. The hotel was clean at all times, despite how busy it was. The location was good, I was able to go for walks at night, there was a local park a short walk away, one of the best situated I have stayed in, three of the most friendly staff, who always spoke to great myself with a sense of humour too. A credit the hotel, just wish I could remember there names.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Family of 4 from Norway Very helpful and serviceminded staff
We got a room with a broken bedsofa. Instead of moving the whole family of 4 to another room, the hotel provided an additional room without extra cost.
For beeing situated in the centre of the town, the rooms are quite and you get a good nights sleep.
Excellent value for money.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Dec76 Central location and good service
Stayed while attending the air tattoo in Fairford. Hotel was less than 5 min walk from Swindon Bus Station for the shuttle bus to Fairford. Hotel doesn't have on-site parking but guests use the train station car park which is a 2 min walk from the hotel. Hotel will provide validated parking but requires notice to be placed in the car informing parking wardens that parking fee is paid by hotel. As we were staying for 4 days this meant going back to the car each day to change the notice.
Breakfast choices could be better. Toaster wasn't working correctly and there were only 3 hot food items to choose from.
Staff were friendly and polite. Room was acceptable for our needs but a little on the small side.

Overall good experience. The bed was a little hard and room was small. I generally use the stairs and they were very diffucult to get around. I did not use the bar or the dining area but looked very clean and busy.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Pilot Talk Great Staff - tough area
My recent stay was nice with the exception of the Thursday night party district that the hotel is near. Throughout the evening, the shouts of the local bar hopping students could be heard all the way up to my fourth floor window. The air conditioning was inadequate and the room very humid and warm making it difficult to sleep. Otherwise, very friendly staff, great internet and breakfast.

The front desk staff were very friendly.
The barman was pretty grumpy so only stayed for one drink. The breakfast selection was very poor. unless you like sausages scrambled egg and beans every day.
the arrest as already spoken about rather left a bad taste. and was informed by the night Manager he hoped we enjoyed the entertainment.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by gaz2258 Staff helpful/security missing
Staff was helpful when we said about the mattress and the lobby staff delt with it as soon as we left.
Security is a issue because we sat for a drink at night in the bar and noticed people that were not booked into the hotel drinking which we found very bad as if they got up to the lobby they could have got into any of the rooms.
The breakfast was very limited

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by C and B Ideally situated for shopping and station
During our 5 night stay we were greeted with a smile whenever we met a member of staff. Enquiries were dealt with sympathetically. The Hotel generated a feeling of well-being. The variety of places to eat and shop were within easy walking distance. Cars may be parked at the nearby railway station car park and although there is a charge it is discounted and reasonable. Our car remained in the car park 24/7 for 5 days. We are already planning a return visit to the Holiday Inn at Swindon Central and will use it as a base to explore the easily accessible surrounding countryside.

This hotel is a very short walk from Swindon railway station, and it would have been a very pleasant and convenient place to stay had it not been for the pub in the next street. I stayed on a Thursday night. It appears that the pub has a late license for Thursday nights and weekends, which allows them to stay open till 3.00am. The local population seems to take full advantage of this facility, and make A LOT of noise (about 85dB, and more when the drummer was doing a solo.)
To be fair, the noise died down pretty quickly after 3.00am, but if you plan on going to sleep at a more usual hour, avoid the back end of the week.
