We stayed as a family over the Veteran's Day Holiday. My husband had just returned from a long assignment overseas and we wanted to spend time as a family and let the kids play in the pool. The room was great and perfectly comfortable for the four of us. There weren't any extra towels as I requested, so we all had to share. We went to play in the pool, but it was freezing. Our kids stood and cried and didn't want to go in. We would have loved to go sit in the hot tub, but a homeless couple was using it to bathe. The man had stacked all of his bags in the corner and they were both sitting in their underwear. They were taking turns rinsing in the shower and then the woman went and slept in the sauna. We waited for them to leave so we could use it, but it was clear they were settling in for the night. Later an older couple came in and saw, and then a staff member came to check. She asked if they were hotel guests, they said yes and she left. That was it. So we left and went back to our room. Later my husband went to get some coffee and saw the man hanging out in the lobby drinking coffee. I brought up the issue to the front desk when we checked out and she apologized, and that was it.
While the room was comfortable, clean and the breakfast was to be expected (minus a milk shortage), this was not how we wanted to spend our family weekend. We have stayed at a lot of Holiday Inns all over the country and never had such poor quality of service. We are platinum members and were able to stay using points. I realize the hotel is not in the nicest part of town, but I still expect the same service.

I would recommend this hotel for business and pleasure. The room was comfortable and I had the ability to relax. The breakfast is typical hotel food. The workout room if very small and needs to be put in a larger area.

We don't consider Tacoma a travel destination, so when we come to town to visit family, high-end accommodations are not at the top of our list. However, This HI-express exceeded our expectations by far! We had previously stayed at another property in the area, but this one has become our new favorite and has stolen all of our future business.
We found the staff to be excellent and willing to go the extra mile. The common areas were clean and inviting. Our room was beyond our needs; comfortable and plenty of space. We slept amazing!
As I said above, this has become our new favorite place to stay in the area!
