Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great hotel but could use some improvement I think the hotel was great for the price. I stayed there for one night. I was excited about the pool and hot tub. The pool water was warmer than the hot tub which was a buzz kill but odd that the pool was warmer, usually it's the opposite. The staff there was extremely nice and helpful. I thought the heater/air conditioner would make the room either too hot or too cold. It was rough adjusting the temperature. The breakfast was great. Overall great value but the hotel did look a little rundown considering it seems like a new property. It shouldn't look shabby. February 11, 2013

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Glaring omissions in service and cleanliness Stayed in this hotel on very short notice following a weekend trip to Washington DC. First, the rooms booked through ICH customer service we not available when we arrived at the property 3 hours later. The management accommodated us by providing an additional room, but because of our children, it was not an ideal situation to be separated into three rooms. None of the rooms had bedding on hand for the pull out couches when we arrived. Only one complete set of linens was available so we had to make do with extra sheets for comforters/bedspreads and pillows from the king beds. In the morning during our use of the pool, I discovered dirt and debris behind the basket kept for towels. It appeared as though when the cleaning staff mopped the pool area, they did not usually remove the basket to sweep and mop behind it. The basket itself was clearly rotted, discolored, and badly needed to be replaced. I informed the day time manager about the issues. He expressed regret with the lack of linens, but made no effort to clean up the unattractive pool area. He did claim that a new laundry basket for the pool towels was on order. January 30, 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by nice staff. substandard room.... i stayed at this location on my way to disney world. the staff was friendly and did a nice job making us feel welcome so i would like to recognize that. however, the room was pretty dirty and didn't have that fresh clean smell i expect when staying at a HIE property. also, the sound of the traffic traveling on I-95 was unbearable! i should have asked to be moved to another room. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A Break from Work The Thornburg Holiday Inn is a great place to relax and unwind. The front desk manager, Richard, and service is tremendous. Richard is very professional and couteous and makes you feel welcome and relaxed. He makes the guest experience very pleasent and warm by offering each guest a drink and snack during check-in. The rooms are fresh and clean and the service is excellent throughout the facility. The amenities, pool and hot tub are very soothing, topped off with fresh towels and excellent lighting. I would strongly recommend this location to business and vacation travelers! December 6, 2012

So the main thing I am looking for is a comfortable and quiet room and a reasonable room rate. This hotel met all three of my needs. I would definitely stay here again when travelling for business. Pool area and fitness room looked nice, although I did not get to use either, since I arrived late and left early. Breakfast is the standard HIE fare, but was well stocked and area was clean. NOTE: If you are using your GPS to find the hotel, try using Spotslyvania, VA as the town if it won't find the Thornburg address. December 3, 2012
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Room dirty bathroom dirty We only stay at the Holiday Inns with our travel. This one was poor. Arrived around 630pm and was greated by a man in a dirty white shirt that needed pressing. Asked for a room on the first floor and he said he had none, No cars in lot and they were still cleaning rooms. After some words I did get a room did not give me a military discount. Got into room but my wife had to clean it because it was dirty and they just cleaned. This place was not AMERICAN owned. Everyone that worked for them I think lived there. Tried to contact Holiday Inn Office but not so easy. So upon check in always ask if it is American owned . Never had a bad American owned Holiday Inn December 2, 2012

I told him of a very bad experience I had at another chain that same night. He was so accomodating. He actually made us feel appreciated. I would recommend this hotel to everyone. November 4, 2012
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Don't expect much sleep This property is right on I-95. Traffic noise is very loud all night long. At 4:30 in the morning we heard doors slamming shut in the hallway as people left their rooms -- and the walls are so poor it sounded like our wall was going to fall over. Breakfast was fine -- except no fruit available. Front desk was friendly at check-in and out. Showerhead in bathroom was FILTHY -- and grout around tile on the bathroom floor was gross. This was far below our expectations for a Holiday Inn Express. November 3, 2012

The pool did not have any towels and when we informed the evening manager he just said sorry but did not provide us with any towels for drying after swimming. The pancake maker was broken in the dining room and there was no fruit available for breakfast. Disappointed in the lack of service and breakfast choices. Also, we are platinum club members and this stay was disappointing. There was no recognition that we are platinum club members. November 2, 2012
