Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great service, nice accomodations We missed our flight to the US, due to flight from Tobago was several hours late, and had to stay in Trinidad overnight. Hotel was able to accomodate us at the last minute. The shuttle to and from the airport was prompt. They also provide a shuttle to the local mall so we could eat dinner. That shuttle was also prompt. The desk staff were eager to make sure we were taken care of, putting extra towels in our room. They printed boarding passes and addressed any concerns we might have, since we were not planning to spend the night in Trinidad. The room was clean, quite, and nice. We had to leave early, so we were unable to have the free breakfast. August 26, 2014

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by services i booked online. there was no indication that an airport shuttle is provided. when i arrived, the taximan told me there is a hotel shuttle. after waiting 10 minutes, i went to the tourist board office and asked. they called the hotel and told me a shuttle would be there at quarter past the hour - it was then 10 pm. at 10:30pm i took a taxi which charged me US$27 for the 10 minute ride August 18, 2014

I am a retired business executive and stayed in all kinds of hotels of varying quality and service levels worldwide. I do not recall my last Holiday Inn Express stay but remember they were in the early stages of establishing this segment. The service level especially abroad was only average. This HIEx in Trinidad was a very pleasant surprise but one I would go back to any time now. As I said in my review, one of the highlight was the continental breakfast which was more like a generous brunch. They even changed the menu items over the course of the week we stayed there. The staff are super friendly and everything was in very good condition. Very happy on our holidays and highly recommend to anyone considering this hotel and the location. August 13, 2014

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Clueless can't be bothered staff and dirty carpets Things started off great with the woman that checked me in around 2am; unfortunately that was the best experience with the front desk staff I had the entire week that I stayed. For the most part the staff gave the impression of being "put off" by questions whether local sites to visit or problems that were noted at the hotel. For example, I asked the best way to get to Maracas Bay Beach. I was told I could catch a cab for $150.00 U.S. My friend and I felt it would be in our best interest to rent a car and drive ourselves around Trinidad. Back at the hotel with the rental car I asked for directions to Maracas Bay Beach. Not only did the staff member not know how to get there, which isn't a bad thing, but she never even offered to give me a map! It wasn't until the following day that a different woman at the front desk gave me a map, and this was because I asked her if there were any beaches worth visiting near San Fernando as I would be down in that area for the day. When I saw the woman pull out the map I was beyond furious. My friend and I were frequently discouraged from driving in Trinidad because we were not locals and didn't have any friends or family local. One night we returned to the room after spending the day out sightseeing and there were no towels in the bathroom. Called down to the front desk and explained the situation. After 20 minutes of waiting no one had brought up any towels and we had to go down to the front desk and get the towels ourselves. Most of the staff lurked in the hallways with their cell phones. Unclear what they were doing but most of the time they were more focused on that than addressing guests. Richie in housekeeping and Alan (unfortunately don't know what department he worked in) were the most helpful staff members we encountered. They gave me tips and advice about driving in Trinidad and the trip to Maracas Bay Beach and Las Cuevas Beach. The carpets in the hallways as well as the carpet in the rooms were stained and dirty and clearly visible even on dark carpeting. The music played all night at the pool despite the pool having a closing time of 11pm. Our room faced the pool so this was annoying in such that sometimes I would awaken due to the music. Luckily I don't have sleeping so I really didn't loose any sleep because of this. I liked that the pool water was warm. However I went to the pool on 3 separate occasions and only once were there pool towels available for use. I did bring my own towels for the beach but I'd suggest bringing a few for the pool too. There are 4 cardio machines in the exercise room; 2 treadmills, 1 stairmaster, and one bicycle. Only one of the treadmills worked otherwise that was it and this was reported on our 2nd day there. 5 days later still only one treadmill worked. July 29, 2014
