The hotel is clean and attractive. Easy access off and on the highway with multiple choices for dining in the area. (We advise going under the highway to the other side for better options.)
Unfortunately our first impression of the hotel was the woman at the front desk who must have been VERY busy when we approached to get checked in. She could not have cared less that we were guests signing in she barely looked up at us, never greeted us or even smiled, just gave us the room keys and mumbled what time breakfast was served. ( Very surprising as we are rewards club members and are usually greeted warmly with that acknowledgement at other HI hotels.) The rooms although clean and roomy seem thinly insulated because we could hear other room's plumbing like showers running and toilets flushing, conversations in the hall, and doors slamming.
It is a good value and it is clean...I would stay here again.

Booked this location, sight unseen, for a layover during a long trip. Needless to say, I was a bit apprehensive given little knowledge of the area and what to expect. I was, however, very pleased with everything. The hotel is in great shape, the rooms are clean and spacious and the staff was great! I travel a lot on business and will seriously consider changing my hotel chain preference given the quality of this property.

Clean comfortable newer room. Large dining area with well stocked clean breakfast bar. Friendly staff and location to freeway, restaurants excellent.

My job involves quite a bit of overnight travel. I spend every other week in hotels.
The Troutville Holiday Inn Express is my favourite hotel, hands down. The property is clean, comfortable, quiet, and safe. Frankly, most HIEs are. What sets this hotel apart is the staff. They are all very kind, friendly, and helpful.
I've gotten to know the folks on the 3-11 and overnight shifts very well. I can't think of a single time I've had a problem that they couldn't help me with. One time I had a dead battery and they even helped me jump my car!
I stay here even if it means I have to drive an extra hour or hour and a half to get to my first appointment the next morning.
Thanks to Phyllis, Mike, and the whole crew! You guys make my life a lot easier and never fail to put a smile on my face! :)

As my family travels yearly to and from upstate NY to Florida we usually stop for a few overnights on our drives. Due to the late start of reserving rooms, this was the only hotel in the area of like 50 miles with vacancy. So we booked it. Unfortunately, the kids look forward to an evening and early morning swim to unleash some of the energy from riding in the car, and this location does not have a pool. Boy were the kids bummed.
The location however was great, the place spotless, and the staff was great....just wish they would build an indoor pool. So sorry to say, this will not be a stop for us in the future unless they add one.

Have stayed here a number of times. The staff and manager really care about its customers. Always acknowledges your priority club membership. Rooms are modern, spacious ,clean , comfortable and well maintained. Breakfast is good and plentiful - Kudos to the Breakfast Ladies.

Have stayed at this particular Hotel several times. It's quiet. Bed is very comfortable, good breakfast and friendly staff. Will definitely stay here again.

I have been staying at this hotel several times a year since it opened, and have never had a disappointing experience, until this weekend. Our room (120) must have a utility or laundry room above it, because early in the morning, it sounded like someone was stomping back and forth, and we would periodically hear swooshing of water. It ruined our sleep. Then, when we went out to breakfast, the person working the area was very rude, actually pushing me out of the way so she could get by and very short and nasty when I asked her for more hot water for oatmeal. It was obvious that I was inconveniencing her by being at the hotel. This is in total contrast to the usual treatment by the staff at this hotel, which have been consistently excellent in past years.
The good things about this hotel (this time and every time): Front desk staff is excellent - pleasant and efficient, Room is clean and comfortably appointed, internet connection is fast and easy to get on, and the shower pressure and temperature are excellent.
