It's a poor commentary when you cannot change reservations even when you try to do so weeks in advance. Your computor system would not allow changes so I was penalized and had to pay for three nights when the room was not even available to us. Utica front desk told me to "read the small print". I called 'Customer Care' and was told to (guess what) "read the small print". Thanks for nothing. We won't be back and neither will our retired traveling friends.

We found this Holiday Inn Express to be the best we've stayed at. The hotel and rooms were exceptionally clean and comfortable. Decor was modern and relaxing. All staff and workers were very friendly, and the price was great. We would highly recommend this hotel. It's very close to Cooperstown and much cheaper than other hotels in the area.

We needed a place to stay for an overnight and this was perfect, the pool was fantastic and the staff was wonderful and friendly (not only to the adults, but to our kids too!)
The entire hotel was neat and clean and spacious. Very nice!

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Ardie Nice looking place needs a few improvements
New property . Door to room didn't close correctly , beds appeared dishevelled and two of four pillow didn't have protector and or pillow case . Pool lacked any towels , had to go ask for some . Pool was dirty , not well maintained . Front desk staff apologized for lack of linen on pillows and offered a $10.00 discount on bill . Bill failed to reflect discount so had to explain problem again to day staff . Apologies were given again and discount applied to bill . Shame nice place , needs some things tended to .

Enjoyed a 5 day 4 night stay at this hotel.
Everything was great about it. Rooms, beds down to the pillows.
Delmonico's, a great Italian Steakhouse, is one minute away walkable distance.
No doubt I will be back.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Juleses Beautiful new hotel!
The rooms here are beautiful, and I love that I get lotion (it's the little things#. I like the bath products, the rooms are clean and very comfortable, the climate is very controllable. I didn't eat the breakfast so can't comment on that.
My only two quibbles #which are very minor) are that there are no free weights in the gym, and I wish more Holiday Inns would take a page from the Maryville Holiday Inn express and leave a dark washcloth in the room for ladies to remove their makeup. I feel bad using the white washcloths, but I can't use tissue for my full face.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by BrianVT Had a great stay
I was in the area for 4 days for work. The hotel is conveniently located. However, it was a little hard to find. You can see the sign from the road, but not the building.
A nice italian steakhouse within walking distance as well as fast food a little further down.
I enjoyed a quick swim, enjoyed the breakfast, enjoyed the TV channel selections. A/C worked well and the room was clean.
The minifridge in the room is nice, but there was no bottle opener. I asked the front desk, but they did not have one either.
Other than not having a bottle opener, the staff was responsive and friendly. They kept the breakfast selection fresh and full.

We stopped in Utica late in the evening without a reservation, and the Utica Holiday Inn Express was able to provide us with a room. We were pleasantly surprised...this was a new hotel, and the decor was extremely nice. It seemed much nicer than the usual Holiday Inn Express. The staff was friendly and helpful, the morning breakfast was great...I only wish they had kept the waffle makers when they came out with the new pancake makers. The only real problem here was getting TO the hotel...it sits in a lot behind an Italian restaurant off the main road. During the day, there's no problem, but it's a bit confusing at night. However, we were able to get to the hotel, and had a very nice meal at the Italian restaurant, which is within walking distance. All in all, I would highly recommend this hotel.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by captjjs Lovely new property
Upon arrival without a reservation, but Ambassador Gold members, we were treated very graciously by the front desk staff and given a room immediately.
The hotel is great looking, and the rooms comfortable. It's clear that it was just constructed at there are still pencil measuring marks on the shower enclosure and plastic that wasn't removed completely from door hinges.
The housekeepers have to pay a little more attention in the bathrooms, especially under the vanity and in the tub as there was noticeable debris and hair there.
Breakfast was very good - the usual Holiday Inn Express fare, and in general we had a great stay. We'd definitely come back again when driving through New York.

The facility is quite new. We enjoyed staying two nights. Enjoyed talking to well mannered receptionists. But at the time of entrance I had to mention that I am Priority Club Member. But at times their service was so fast that Taxis called reached well ahead of time mentioned. Over all its worth staying.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 Holiday Inn Express-Utica NY
Hotel was built in November 2012, so everything in the hotel is new. Rooms were large and beds were very comfortable. Staff was incredibly friendly and checkin was speedy. Disappointed in how easily the noise could be heard inside my room from kids that were next door. Breakfast was really good, just wish the attendant could have stocked the hot food a little quicker.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Bigbadbob Finally a good hotel in Utica
This was my third stay at this hotel since it opened in Nov 2012.
I can only give praise to everything that has to do with this inn.I have been coming to Utica to visit my daughter and have always had to settle for what was around here. Now a hotel has opened that I really enjoying staying at.Your day starts off so great when you come in for breakfast. The dining room attendant Karen is so cheerful and happy that it rubs off on you and really starts your day off right. What she has prepared for your enjoyment is so good and it is much better than coffee and donuts that you would get free somewhere else. The best part is that this wonderful breakfast is free.
Being new the hotel is spotless and is kept that way by housekeeping services.
I look forward to my return in a few months.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by POCOBO Great for the most part
The hotel is beautifully decorated, clean, and well maintained. Most of the staff was reasonably friendly, too.
At check-in, I was disappointed that there was no recognition for priorty club members as we have experienced at other Holiday Inn Express hotels. There was some slight confusion with the block of rooms I had booked, but the manager took care of it within a few minutes.
Even though we could connect to wifi, it was beyond slow.
The pool water did not seem to be heated and I do believe my core body temperature dropped about 15 degrees. Luckily, there was free hot chocolate!
The worst part of our stay was that a large group of teenagers checked in and seemed to over take the hotel. They were quite loud and disprectful. In the pool, they had no regard for the rules or that our young children were in there. Same held true at breakfast the following morning.
This hotel is close to the thru way and offers restaurants within walking distance.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by CWE75 Nice, new, and comfortable
I enjoyed my recent stay at this new hotel. The bed was comfortable, the room looked brand new and clean, and the Internet signal was strong. My only complaint would be that the hotel is somewhat noisy. The walls do not seem to be very well sound insulated. However, I would recommend this hotel and I will stay there again.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by DLG1960 New and quite nice
We stayed 3 nights in a double queen room while visiting our daughter at a local college. This hotel appears to be brand new; our room and the common areas were very clean and unblemished. The staff was VERY nice and bent over backwards to be helpful. Breakfast was good, and the workers there were always friendly as can be. Nothing fancy but a very good, safe, clean place to stay.
One thing to note: Our room was on the 2nd floor over the pool and a bunch of kids were swimming, so it got VERY loud. I don't think the walls/floors are very thick.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by JacobMom Great Weekend Getaway
We came to the Utica area this past President’s Day weekend from Baltimore to enjoy some winter sports with my (3) year old son.
It was so nice to receive a warm welcome from the Front Desk at 2A after an anticipated six hour drive which turned into an eight hour drive due to snow in NE Pennsylvania. He quickly checked us in and even warmed up a few cinnamon buns for a late night snack.
Our room was exceptionally clean and the beds very comfortable. We had a suite with (2) beds which was more than enough space for (3) people. It was nice to have a microwave and refrigerator in our room as a grocery store is less than a mile away. The shower consistently had hot water and a great flow. The heating system was in fine working order. My son enjoyed the pool though I thought the water to be a bit cool. The workout facilities had (3) treadmills and an elliptical machine.
Breakfast had a variety of options to choose from (eggs, pancakes, oatmeal, other cereal, pastries and bagels) and was tasty. It would have been nice to have some fresh fruit such as bananas, oranges and apples. The breakfast staff, were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our morning conversations with them.
The noise level was our only major criticism, but this has more to do with the construction of the hotel and the fact that family in the room next to ours had out of control infants/toddlers. We are fairly tolerant of little kids, given we have one of our own, but this was over the top with yelling and cursing. The thin walls didn’t help the situation. The Front Desk did offer to move us, but we didn’t feel like packing up our stuff on our final night.
The location was convenient to all of our planned activities.
Overall, the place had the feel of a bed and breakfast despite being a major chain hotel. We definitely recommend this hotel for anyone coming to cross country ski in the area.

We were in town for a funeral with other family members. We had several rooms booked for several nights. There were no complaints from any of the family members. The rooms were clean and the staff was always very friendly. Breakfast choices change daily so you didn't have to eat the same items every day. From the check in to the check out, all was great. I don't know if we'll be in your area again, but I have added this hotel to my favorites list, just in case. Thank you for your hospitality!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by maryw66 Very happy with stay
I can't give this 5 stars because other HIE facilities have actually been better. However, we have made HIE our first priority lodging and were not disappointed with this stay. While it was not perfect the shortcomings were nowhere near deal breakers.
The room/bedding was exceptionally comfortable and clean, our absolute MUST for any stay, which we have come to expect from HIEs which have never let us down in this regard.
We were thrilled that this new HIE was open, after a very unpleasant stay at the Holiday Inn across town last fall.
We liked the location, attentive staff and layout of this HIE. The room heater worked 100% and was easy to use. It was a nice touch to have a night light in the bathroom but the loud fan noise (fan could not be shut off) was so annoying we had to shut the door to sleep -- so no night light.
Breakfast was very good but apparently they have cut back on the food: apples were the only fresh fruit. The bread choices were good but there were no biscuits (like other HIEs have) and we do NOT eat either the pre-made "omelets" or "toaster strudels" they are offering. THANK YOU for real butter! And it was nice to have toasters that WORKED, and only took a regular time instead of "forever".

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by RoadWarrior67 Very Disappointing
I have stayed at this hotel 4 times since it opened in November of 2012. This is a brand new hotel and everything is new. You might be wondering why the poor rating? Out of the 4 times I have stayed here I have only had hot water once. I spoke with the manager on the first stay and was understanding as the hotel was new and they are still working the kinks out. It is now over 2 months since their grand opening and still no hot water this morning. If I complain to the manger all I will get is "the deer in the headlight stare" and offered some free priority club points, I dont need points as I spend over 100 nights a year in Holiday Inn's, I want Hot Water! He is obviously not able to make a decision and get someone in to fix the problem. Other notes are that being a brand new hotel you would think whoever designed it would have put a towel rack over the toilet instead of a picture so when you are done taking your cold shower you don't have to take a towel off the insanitary top of the toilet. Also if you get a room with 2 beds don't plan on using the desk because you will be wedged between the one bed and the desk. Very interesting last night coming into the hotel the parking lot was an entire sheet of ice, I imagine having their snow removal company spread salt so it is somewhat safe is to expensive. I think they will change their thought process when someone falls and gets hurt. I spend allot of time in Holiday Inns every year and it is obvious that while brand new this hotel is not on par with other Holiday Inn Expresses. You try and give everyone the benefit of the doubt but it is obvious after 2 months that it is lip service from the management. This is only the second poor review I have had to leave a hotel in 25 years of travel. I doubt I wil be staying here again.

Everything was great except that maybe the maids need more training. Upon entry to the room the bedspread looked as though someone had laid down on the bed and the spread was very wrinkiled. (needed ironing). Also there was something spilled on the floor of the bathroom that had dried and was not cleaned. Obviously no mopping had been done. Little things, like the labels of the towels hanging out of the folded towels. Just a pet peeve of mine in hotel bathrooms. Other than this stuff, the staff was great, and everything else was very clean. Breakfast was free so I can't complain about that!
