Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Worst Holiday Inn Express I've stayed at a number of Holiday Inn Express and this was by far the shoddiest. It needed lots of updating. The rooms were old and with old furnishings. There was no counter space in the bathroom and the TV was at a right angle to the bed. Carpets were old and worn. Breakfast was just OK, not anything to rave about. The numbering on the rooms was confusing. If I have to stay in Walnut Creek again, it certainly will not be at this Holiday Inn Express. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great location; accommodations and amenities excellent On check-in, we were given a room that, unfortunately, backed up to the interstate. I requested a room change and staff were most accommodating. No questions asked, we were given an inside room with an upgrade at no extra charge. We have stayed in this hotel before while visiting family in the area and, due to the fact we were very pleased with the hotel, returned. Big plus for an Atlanta based couple, a brand new Chick-fil-a is right next door! :-) June 8, 2013

Luis at the front desk is very personable, welcoming and reaches out to be helpful. We can count on our room being well attended to by the wonderful housekeeping staff. The breakfast is delicious and Eppie's cheerful face in the morning is always a welcome sight. We look forward to our next visit. May 25, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great place to stay, but a little overpriced. I flew into San Francisco airport and took BART from the airport to the Contra Centre station. (1 past Walnut Creek) The Holiday Inn is only about a 15 minute walk for this slow walker. The sidewalks are safe and easy to follow to the HIE. The room was comfortable and clean and the staff was very friendly. The daily selection of breakfast food was somewhat limited, but everything was fresh and the staff did a good job of keeping everything well stocked. I felt that the nightly price was a little on the high side for a single occupancy room in a Holiday Inn in the middle of no where. There are really no attractions close to the Holiday Inn so I felt that their pricing should have been a little lower than it was. There are a wide variety of restaurants within a short walk and with many other people out walking or riding bicycles, the area surrounding the HIE was comfortable and felt safe. Overall it was a pretty good place to stay for business travel and I would stay there again. May 24, 2013

The wifi was much more dependable and faster than what is experienced a other hotels of equal caliber. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Your average Holiday Inn Express This is one of those average Holiday Inn Expresses, with the usual pluses of breakfast and good staff service. The downs with this location were that it could use a bit of a facelift after enduring a lot of high traffic. The carpets in the first floor hallway, and in my room (no stretching on the floor, folks), could use a stiff cleaning. Also the vending machines were not working properly (one wanted only exact change, and the other ate two dollar bills). More importantily, the WiFi constantly required me to log back in, which was very inconvenient for getting work done. That said, I will be back because this is the best location/value in the area. We checked in at 1:15AM on Friday night, woke up Saturday morning and we had to go down stairs for a Newspaper. I am mentioning this as I have never had to retrieve my own paper staying at Hoilday Inn Express before. This happened again on Sunday morning. The following week I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express in Springfield Oregon and had newspapers delivered to my door both mornings. My title is what I am trying to state, It is the little things that matter. Across the country it should be uniform. May 13, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Beauty & Comfort The lobby and grounds of this hotel are beautiful; nice pool and gardens. Accommodations are comfortable and rooms are good size. Bathroom is so-so, but quiet and clean rooms more than make up for it. Breakfast is full-on affair: bisquits & gravy, eggs, bacon, cereals, pastries, etc. You won't go away hungry. Parking includes underground, covered as well as outdoor. Felt very safe here. May 8, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by two issues While we stay regularly at the Holiday Inn Express in Walnut Creek, and will stay again, we did have two issues...first, a pile of dirty linens was sitting on the floor outside a room when we first checked in about 6 p.m. on a Sunday evening. To our amazement, the pile of laundry was still there the next day. Even after I reported it to the front desk at 8 a.m., it was not removed until a couple of hours later. Secondly, we carefully hung our towels up on the towel rack indicating our willingness to re-use them (in accordance with the door-hanger notice hanging in the bathroom)...but, as has happened multiple times in the past, all the towels were changed and/or replaced when we returned to the room after a day of sight-seeing. We also mentioned this to the front desk...and, as before, they said they would bring it to the attention of the housekeeping staff. But this is a long-standing pattern with this Holiday Inn that continues to irritate those of us who actually care about saving water! May 7, 2013

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 Very noisy We have stayed at the Walnut Creek HIE four times now. Previous rooms have been fine, but room #103 should be avoided! The garbage truck arrives seemingly right outside the window at oh-dark-hundred. Six o'clock, maybe? Way too early. Also, being at the head of the hall, there is endless foot traffic outside the room. People don't realize how their voices carry and we were awakened numerous times thoughout the evening and early morning. The bathroom has been recently remodeled - a good thing except the basin faucet is so wobbly it's hard to turn on the water and the sink stopper is inoperable. The gentleman at the front desk said he would arrange a discount because we were so exhausted at the end of our two night stay. However, he has not followed through on that promise. April 24, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Accommodating staff; decent stay The shuttle was helpful; the staff was accommodating; the breakfast area and food were great (included a variety); the cookies and Wednesday night snacks/drinks were nice; the courtyard, pool, hot tub, and inside seating area were pleasant; access to the bike path was awesome. However, we found several small items beneath the beds that a vacuum must've pushed there, and I'm glad my small children didn't find them first. The courtyard room still wasn't that quiet or big, even though we paid more for it. The bathtub is too slippery for children. The gym is very small. April 11, 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good but could be better Front desk staff is not as knowledgeable as they could be - its important to notify guests upon arrival if the property will inconvenience their guest in any way; ex: if water is going to be shut off for maintenance. I was inconvenienced twice during my stay and was not notified either time of this matter. I was also told I could walk over to 24hr Fitness and gain entry with a hotel business card to utilize gym since they didnt want anyone in the weightroom until after 7am. I was turned away at the front door and told that I needed an actual pass. There was also no towels in the gym both mornings that I worked out. I will say that both the front desk manager and Ms. Donna did things for me in lieu of the inconveniences so I was very pleased in that regard. April 10, 2013

We went to Trip Advisor to find a top rated hotel in Walnut Creek since we were meeting friends there for dinner. The Holiday Inn Express popped up so we booked a room. We were disappointed with decor and location for a top rated hotel but thought it was OK for one night. When we checked out in the morning, my wife left her good hat in the room. We called from the road and talked to Luis, who proceeded to search the whole hotel (public spaces including our room) to find the hat. He finally found it and promptly mailed it to us in Seattle. We were and are very grateful for his diligence and honesty. April 7, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Manager's attitude to guests, When we made our reservation, we expected service equal to our last visit. Our first surprise was that we were told to come back in four hours. We did, and when we did our request for the first floor (made at the time of our reservation request) was denied. We were placed in 201. The next day, a clerk came up, after three requests for a lightbulb for the desk lamp and told us that ours wasn't a "dog room". We noted that we liked the room on the first floor that we had the last visit. Later that day, a person at the desk asked me if I were aware of the dog policy. I said, yes, and that my husband had checked that box on arrival. Later we we notified that the water/plumbing would be shut off from 10 to 6 the next day. We complained that we were not informed of this at the time of our reservation and were comped one day. Today about 3:30pm a note was slipped under the door, informing us that tomorrow the plumbing would be shut off AGAIN. This time it would be 10am to 5pm. I spoke with the manager again and was told that we had already received enough compensation and that we could go to another hotel, if we didn't like it. We had planned a quiet day by and in the pool and I told him about this. He said that we still could. Did he expect that we should relieve ourselves in the pool? No plumbing, also, means no room cleaning! Limited towels, not a thrill. Twice in a five day stay? Why didn't he notify us last evening at 6pm when he knew the work was incomplete? The desk lamp still needs a bulb........We check out 04-04-13. April 2, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Checkout We stayed at this motel twice during our recent vacation. Once on our way down to Disneyland and once on our way back. The motel lists checkout time as noon. However, both times we stayed our room key became invalid at 10;00AM; This was very inconvenient. I have stayed at Holiday Inn Express motels many times. I am a Priority Gold Member. I have never had this happen before this stay. I was also disappointed in the lack of pool supervision. There were several kids in the pool with no adult supervision. They were eating bacon and rolls while sitting in the spa. An occasional check of the pool by the staff would be beneficial. March 31, 2013
