But the draw back is the traffic in the afternoon, which makes it almost impossible to drive around for more options of restaurants, shopping, sightseeing, etc. A couple of good restaurants within walking distance, though. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Two Comfortable Nights Friendly front desk- but we had to wait about 1/2 hour for our room to be ready. The rooms were comfortable- beds nice and clean sheets. The shower head was broken but when I asked them to fix it, they did by the time I returned later that evening. There is a nice laundry and small but adequate work out room. Breakfast was good with variety or hot and cold-egg omelets, muffins and cereals and juices. September 9, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good access, great service, safe and comfy neighborhood We were new to the Boston area, dropping off our son at the start of the school year, and we took a chance that this Holiday Inn Express was a good choice. We found the location provided great access to several roads to Cambridge and to Boston Logan Airport (all of which we used). The front desk service was beyond excellent and very friendly. The location was picturesque, given the location near other hotels and I95, where one would normally expect endless cement and commercial buildings. I certainly felt safe and enjoyed walking the tree shaded sidewalks on Winter Street. August 29, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Price and Great Rooms This is a great place to stay near Boston. It's totally accessible to the north and south shore and almost directly west of the city. The rooms were renovated in 2012 I was told and they are very nice and clean. The staff was friendly, efficient and helpful. We have stayed there twice this summer and will definitely be making this hotel our regular spot when we go back to Boston. August 27, 2013

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Long-time customer will not return I've had many visits to this hotel but I will never return. To be fair: the rooms are adequate and clean; the hotel easy to find; breakfast is standard Holiday Inn Express fare; the front desk is generally helpful. The reason I won't return: I foolishly opted for the cheaper, non-cancellable reservation ($10 off) when I booked for a stay 2 days in advance. When family illness forced a cancellation, I ended up paying the full price. My beef is that another Holiday Inn Express in Westfield, Massachusetts, at which I had the same sort of reservation for a previous night, had no problem cancelling my reservation without fee. This hotel demanded their full fee, even though I cancelled with 24 hours' notice. This only added to the stress surrounding my aunt's illness. I'll return to the Westfield MA hotel. I'll never return to the Waltham MA hotel. August 21, 2013

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Less than adequate. Checking in was fine, checking out was fine. Breakfast was fine. Two problems: first was the fire alarm at mid night. No problem, hotel manager can't control someone's else's mistake. Second problem was our room was walked in-on twice. Once late Saturday afternoon. We didn't have the do not disturb sign on the door either time, however Saturday there was no knock, just the door opening then the person said, 'housekeeping' only after door was open. In Sunday was 9am. My wife was half dressed both times. Second time she was in front of door and there was a little bit of warning before door was opened but not much. A quick knock and abrupt opening of door. This has never happend before, and yet twice in the same weekend. ( on our 14th wedding anniversary no less) August 21, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 Policies This particular location is one we stay at often (as you can see by our history) since we have family in the area, and visit regularly. In fact in the recent past this last stay would have been our 3rd in the past 6 or so months. We were surprised to learn on this stay that this location has "Priority Club Member Special Accommodations"! Certain floor with somewhat nicer room. We have always been Priority Club members, yet this hasn't been brought to our attention, or offered to us before this. We feel slighted ! Doesn't sound to me like the "Priority" in Priority Club means much in your Boston-Waltham location. Why wouldn't this have been pointed out to us before now. I realize availability might be a question, however we always make our reservation well in advance. When bring this to the attention of the front desk people, other than a shrug of the shoulders, the suggestion was made that in the future we request the Priority Club rooms. To me that sounds like it's up to me to get the benefit that you have for us. Rather then you getting to be a "hero" by offering us special treatment. August 1, 2013

There are several good hotels in the same city block and I'm sure that all of them offer better customer service than this Holiday Inn Express now provides. On the other hand, I highly recommend the Holiday Inn Express on Southampton Road in Westfield, MA. July 28, 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Basic, but lacking in amenities and cleanliness We stayed here for my daughter's triathlon at MIT. It was the hotel recommended by the triathlon. Apparently they were offering a reduced rate but we were told we could not receive it because we "had booked too far in advance". We expected to be able to eat breakfast before leaving for the triathlon but had to be at the triathlon at 6:15am so we were told they would not have breakfast in time for us. The phone in the room didn't work but they very quickly sent someone to fix it. Upon checkout I looked under the bed and found candy and a used bar of soap. It was fine for what we needed but there is definitely room for improvement. July 26, 2013
