Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Friendly staff but horrible location We were booked here for 3 nights to go to the NCAAB games at the Verizon Center. We only stayed one night because it is not close to anything and cabs won't pick up there. It takes 45 minutes to go those 5 miles. If you want to be around attractions, do not stay here. Rooms were ok and staff was very helpful and friendly. Businesses around have razor wire on the fences and bars on doors. Very poor location. April 4, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Easy17 Easy check-in and check-out. The breakfast brunch was on the pricey side, all you can eat for $29.99. April 1, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very Professional So I called to make a reservation for this hotel because it had great amenities for the right price and was somewhat near downtown. The website was down to make a reservation and when I called to make it, staff told us to call back another time to make the reservation when their systems were up. I called morning and early afternoon but they were down, but was able to make one in the late afternoon. Problems happen with technology, so I had no issues waiting. However, telling potential customers to call back later rather than getting there contact information and calling them back once the systems were fixed may have resulted in retaining some customers that may have booked elsewhere due to the issues. I have patience but others may not. I received an email confirmation for a 2 bed suite. Upon arriving and attempting to check in, I noticed the price owed for the reservation invoice was much more in the original reservation. When asked, the clerk told me he made an error. He apologized and reprinted it with the right amount, however, this time it said 1 king bed suite. I told him that we reserved a 2 bed suite. He said in his systems all it stated was a suite that was ordered, no further clarification on 1 or 2 bed suite. I showed him the number of guests with me and how 1 bed suite would not suffice. Luckily, I was able to pull out the email showing the 2 bed suite. He took the cell phone to his supervisor and said he would look into the issue. Some time had passed and he told me he was not able to accommodate us based on the reservation but said we are certainly entitled to what was originally booked. The hotel property next door offered my reservation and Holiday Inn would honor the same rate that we booked with them. He apologized profusely to us. He offered to waive our parking fee as the hotels shared the same lot. The staff members also offered to assist with luggage and told us to help ourselves to free food/drinks that they sold. While we waited awhile to be told we could not stay at this hotel, due to hotels system issues that need to be dealt with apparently, the staff for that time treated us with politeness, courtesy and were friendly. Maybe next time I'll try to see if Holiday Inn can offer a reservation that is based on what is actually placed. March 27, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great place Staff was incredible. Went above and beyond to make sure everyone in my party was well cared for and treated like royalty. Monique at the front desk, greeted me by name each day, and really made me feel welcome. Hard to get a cab in this area, but not HIEs fault. They know this and go out of their way to get you what you need. March 24, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Outstanding Service I traveled to the DC area with my parents for cardiac surgery for my 78 year old father at Washington Hospital. We decided to stay at the HIE because the hotel offers shuttle service to & from the hospital and had good reviews online. The hotel was located less than desirable area of the city but we felt safe and the hotel was very clean and comfortable. The service and hotel staff were outstanding. The staff went above and beyond to assist us the day of my dads surgery. Laurie and Richard were very gracious and assisted us during a very stressful time. We are very thankful and felt truly blessed. March 3, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Holiday Inn Quality Parking prices over charged I never have to pay to park at a hotel i stay at, i was charged around $20 bucks night for parking. I did not agree with but had no choice March 1, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Inauguration Weekend Me and my fiance enjoyed our stay here. The bed was comfortable, the staff was pleasant and professional, and breakfast was good and a great variety. We will definitely be back! February 25, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Stay The front desk staff were amazing and very, very helpful. my coworkers and I were very happy with their professionalism and happiness. Even if it was just to help us check in, they were ever helpful. February 18, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Too much noise The hotel plays music in the lobby and outside the main entrance, which is audible inside the guest rooms. It kept us awake and we had to call the front desk at 3 AM to request that the volume be turned down. The $15/night parking charge is ridiculous. The buffet breakfast selection is poor. All sugary cold cereals, pastries, and pancakes. Carbs, carbs and more carbs. February 9, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice Stay except at Breakfast I stayed there last weekend January 4th - the 6th great staff and great rooms. There was a gentleman that greeted me by name when i walked through the door when i checked in his name is Sean. He was very helpful in accomodating me and getting me into my room very quickly, He recognized me as a Priority Club Platinum member, Which I thought was great. My entire stay was great unfortunately on the last morning while having breakfast I notice a medium size roach crawling around the pantry food are where fresh breakfast was out at the time. I quickly brought it to the attention of the attendant in breakfast area. I will still recommend but i hope you take care of the roach problem. It was not a good look to see that first thing in the morning around breakfast food, that morning I did not eat the breakfast. January 15, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Front desk service absolutely horrible. Our reservations were on 1/1/13 and upon arrival we were asked for full payment up front. The security features on our debit card require the pin for all transactions, the young man at the front desk very rudely told us that there is no way of entering a pin so we had to leave to find an ATM. Once we returned he then explained that we had to pay an extra $30 deposit due to paying with cash as well as $15 for parking. I am still unsure as to why there is a fee to park seeing as it is not valet, not a separate location, and there were plenty of available spots onsite. At around 9pm I called the front desk asking for a taxi and was told "you can just walk there, a taxi isn't going to come for that trip" so I called the taxi service myself and they were very happy to come and pick us up and take us the short trip down the road. The morning staff were no better. Our receipt was slid under the door and showed no deposit, instead it showed our rate and deposit combined and marked paid in full. I went to the front desk to turn in the keys and get my deposit back and the manager looked at the paper and tried to tell me that we were all settled have a nice day. I actually had to argue and wait 10 minutes to get my $30 deposit back. Overall the front desk staff are lazy, unhelpful, and very deceptive. If someone chooses to stay here make sure you look over your bill so they don't try to take your money as well. The room itself was very clean and comfortable but due to the staff we will not return and we do NOT recommend this location to others. January 12, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by AMAZING business experience Wonderful and courteous staff, immediate reception. Clean room....Thanks again! January 10, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Hotel is great, but staff was rude when I had an issue with the bill This is a very new hotel, with mostly lovely staff that is very helpful; however, when my bill had the incorrect room rate, I was treated poorly and informed that I was wrong by the front desk staff. I even had the reservation printed with the correct rate and they still insisted I was wrong. Eventually, after I expressed my frustration and insulted their ability to do math, they fixed most of the issue. I just finally gave up on the last couple dollars since I had to get on the road. A great stay ruined at the last few minutes :( January 6, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by HORRIBLE Service from Front Desk Satff Upon our arrival on Friday, December 21st at about midnight Javerlyn was at the Front Desk, her attitude came across as if it was the last place she wanted to be in. I asked her if she could put my Priority Club # on the reservation and she stated she didn't have the authorization to do so. I worked for InterContinental Miami for 5 years and I've never heard about any authorization to put in a Priority Club #. Then I asked her about the complimentary shuttle service to Union Station that is clearly stated on your website and she said they no longer offer that service. I asked her if there was any metro station I could park in and she said yes Union Station for about $20. At that point I was not happy being that I was going to pay $15 a night for parking at the property and now I was going to have to pay another $20 at Union Station. Saturday, December 22nd I approached the Front Desk and Tiara assisted us with the same attitude Javerlyn had. I once again asked about the complimentary shuttle and this time I was told that the property does offer a shuttle but I had to reserve it, If i would've known that Friday night I would've put my name on the list. I asked Tiara how much a cab would cost to Union Station and she said about $20 same thing if I were to just drive and park. I asked her if she could get a cab for us and with an attitude she said they were extremely busy and it would be about 45 minutes, but she could have the shuttle driver take us to Union Station for $20! At this point I was fed up with all the attitude and the fact that I was paying $30 for parking at your property thinking there would be a shuttle and now I was going to have to pay another $22 for parking at Union Station. As we walk out of the hotel there was cab just sitting waiting for business, interesting because Tiara stated that they were all busy. We drove to Union Station and parked. At one of the Metro Stations we were told that parking was free at metro stations on the weekend not Union Station because of Amtrak. I am extremely disappointed with the service I received from the staff. The rooms were clean and breakfast was good but Saturday night there was a party on our floor until about 4:30 am and no one seem to pay any attention to it so getting sleep was not the easy. The 5 years that I worked of IHG we were told to be "In the Know" of our city in order to recommend authentic places to our guests. I could not believe that Tiara forgot to mention that I could go to metro station Rhode Island Ave which was only 11 minutes and park for free. I will NEVER stay at this property again. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice room and comfortable bed. . The staff was wonderful and it was nice to have a shuttle to take us to Union Station and get us back to the hotel at night. The area wasn't the best, but hte hotel and staff were wonderful. We truly enjoyed our stay and felt safe at night. December 3, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Relatively new hotel for Washington. From moment of check-in to departure, service was excellent. The manager, Laurie, was always available and greeted guests. The hotel is only 4 years old, which is great for D.C. and the hotel rate was extremely reasonable for the area, especially when the buffet breakfast is included. I would not hesitate to stay here again when in DC. While the location is in the NE, there is a van to Union Station and the desk will call a taxi or private service transportation if desired. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by good value and location for our needs The hotel room was well appointed and furnishings adequate. We enjoyed the breakfast and the cinnamon rolls are delicious. The shortfalls were as follows: hard bed that gave my husband a sore shoulder, running and slamming doors in the hall at 3 AM on a Sunday morning, no staff available at front desk twice when we had questions (no call bell or button either - we had to go looking for a staff member and wait), most of the breakfast foods not out at 6 AM when we had an early flight to catch. The staff we did encounter were pleasant and helpful. We would probably stay here again as our last visit was much better and the other nights were much quieter. We were offered no amenites for Priority Club. October 21, 2012
